I forgot his name, and it was one of those guys that experts considered "a real find", and that other scouts were thoroughly impressed with as a "watch out for this guy" type of pitcher? His name escapes me, but they said he's a 95mph+ hurler with "closer" stuff. It was somebody that we got in stealth mode and the other teams were oooing and aaaaing.

Was I hallucinating? Did I just dream this?

Edison Reynoso. I think during Spring Training, he touched 100mph on the gun, but, like any young guy who throws 100mph, he needed work on his control. And yes, scouts do think he'll be a great reliever.

I remember there being somewhat of a minor bidding war over a guy named Reynoso...but I really can't remember his first name. Does anyone know where he's playing right now? I don't think he's in Columbus...

No, Domingo Jean was once a Yankee prospect who never has gotten his stuff under control apparently. The guy they signed last winter was Edison Reynoso, who was throwing in the high nineties in the D.R. winter league. I believe S.I.'s scouting report said that he could be a factor for the Yanks. He was at spring training and had some good and some not so good outings. He has pitched before in the MLs and is not real young -- mid twenties I believe. But I could not find him on any of the Yankee minor league teams. I don't know what happended to him. Was he injured? Was his contract not guaranteed, so he could be released?

Thanks for the quick responses - yes, it is Edison Reynoso. Other scouts were really impressed with him and thought that the Yankees had found themselves another gem. He clocked 100mph on the radar gun.

The reason I was curious is because the Yankees seem to keep their mouths shut when they find somebody that they think is going to be really special. Anybody heard the story about Bernie? That when they found him he was a few months shy of legal age to sign, so they sent him to camp in the US so that other scouts would never look at him. The day he was old enough, they signed him. Anyway, I was just wondering why there hadn't been a word about Reynoso - I had originally heard that he might be MO#2. Then again, being a closer of Mo's caliber is 50% stuff, 50% mental makeup.

Thanks for the responses.

Well, I can understand that they wouldn't want other teams to know too much about him, but I would think he would at least be playing. I can't find his name on the minor league rosters...maybe I overlooked it.

Is he even still with the Yankees?

He is 25 and spent the last 2 years playing for the Hiroshima Carp.

Where he's playing now, in the Yankee minor leagues, is a mystery to me.

He's only pitched in 60 games in his career of 5 years. So he needs experience.

I checked the complete rosters for AAA, AA, A, and the rookies...nothing!

What a mystery. The man has disappeared. Are there legal/immigration issues keeping the deal from being consumated? Intruiging.....

Alex, you weren't just whistling Dixie when you said the Yankees like to hide hot prospects!

I'll let y'all know if I hear anything about him!

By the way, another mystery I've been trying to solve. Where did Chris Chambliss land, after he was undone by Denbo as Yankee hitting coach?

Mr. Roy - don't tease. You sound like you know something. ;) Or are you just commenting on the previous posts?

Any information would be appreciated if you come across anything. Now, I'm kinda burning with curiousity to know what happened to him.

Okay, I found an Edison Reynoso using the link attached below. But it says that he plays for a team called ESTRELLAS - I would assume that this is not in the States. Is it possible that he's still in the DR? Perhaps there is some legal issue with regard to joining the Yankees?

THANKS! Well, that was anti-climactic. I was hoping for some kind of ultra-dramatic conspiracy - ala Bernie. ;)
