RhodyYanksFan inspired me to start this one...

You all know what I'm talking about:

We all have at least one friend who has a father that, even at his current age, you would still NEVER even DREAM about messing with. You just know that even if the guy is 50 or 60+ he would still whoop your a$$.

My friends and I always get into debates about the athletes in this category.

My list is as follows:

1) Charles Oakley

2) Charles Oakley

3) Charles Oakley

I honestly believe that Oak would beat the crap out of 99% of the NBA...RIGHT NOW, at 41 years old. One of the strongest players in the league up until the day he retired, coupled with that old man "I'm your father and I'll whoop your a$$ in a heartbeat" demeanor.

This story says it all:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2001/playoffs/news/2001/05/16/oakley_hill_ap/

Charles Oakley and Tyrone Hill probably won't be dining together anytime soon...Hill, Philadelphia's starting power forward, paid the Raptors' Oakley money he owed him from a dice game last summer, a 76ers team source told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Oakley would not confirm that he was paid the remainder of the debt, about $54,000.

"Everything in life is double," Oakley said before Wednesday's game. "If he didn't pay me $108,000, he didn't pay me."

Oakley was suspended for one game without pay and fined $10,000 last month for hitting Hill in the head with a basketball after a morning shootaround in Toronto before the 76ers played the Raptors on April 3.

Before a preseason game, Oakley slapped Hill and neither was allowed to play.

He went up to Hill in the layup lines and smacked him after Hill wouldn't give him the money he was owed from a game of dice.

Now THATS gangsta...

I don't think that 40+ really qualifies as "older guys". Sounds like BS to me, in order to fit Oak in there.

Older guys are 50+, and there's definately a group in there that i wouldn't want to face.

I say 40+ because thats "old" for the major sports (very old, actually), and my friends and I always discuss this with athletes.

One friend's dad embodies the South Boston Irishman. 62 now, I think, and not particularly big, but none of us would ever cross him still. And he still drinks fairly hard and fairly often, so we also know to be careful around him if we see him at night, in case he's in a state where little things could set him off.

True, but my first post references fathers that are 50 or 60 plus years old, and then goes into athletes.

My intention with the 40+ designation was the athletes.

Karl Malone would get destroyed by X-Man, IMHO. I honestly believe that Malone would be a b*itch in a real fight.

X-Man when he was older was just a grumpy old dude looking to beat some rookie punk down.

Some biker dude, who my mom describes as twice the size as my dad, was causing trouble so my dad had to drag him out of the bar. The guy grabbed my dad by the beard and said, "How about I rip your beard off?" My dad responded with, "How about I knee you in the balls?" And the proceeded to do it.

During one Andrew Galotta fight gone crazy at the end, people were throwing things and Andrew was getting hit by his opponent's lackey in the corner. One of them tried taking a swing at George's ringside partner, but George stepped in the middle and gave that infamous growl. Not a single punch thrown. George's partner kept complimenting him on physically protecting him from harm.

BTW, I heard that Big Bad Sonny Liston, who'd beaten people up for the mob if they were behind on their payments, invented the "staredown".

Jackie Chan is 50...

...but Jet Li is 41 and I would not mess with him for any amount of money.

Unlike a lot of other martial arts movie stars, Jet Li is completely and totally legit.

Li began training at the Beijing Martial Arts Academy at the age of nine. Just two years later, he captured the title of China’s National Martial Arts Champion. This earned him a slot on the prestigious Beijing Martial Arts Team that would go on to tour America. As part of a world tour in 1974, he had the honor of performing a two-man fight for President Nixon on the White House lawn. By his mid teens, he was already a national martial arts coach. By eighteen, Li had earned the title of National Martial Arts Champion a total of four times (1975, 1977, 1978 and 1979) – a record no one has broken

This is one of my favorite stories of all time, and one that not many people know about or remember...

As Jet remembers, President Richard Nixon stood with one of his female teammates, and Jet stood next to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. At one point, Nixon turned towards him and said, "Young man, your kung fu is very impressive! How about being our bodyguard when you grow up?"
"No, " Jet responded. "I don't want to protect any individual. When I grow up, I want to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen."

He was 11 years old...

Yep, it was Chuck Zito, but I don't think he was any sort of serious martial artist (although I could be wrong). I remember someone having lived around their clubhouse around E 3rd St or so. I dared not to take any picture (even though I had a camera with me). I just asked if I could look at their Harleys, but the guy gave me some mistrusting, squinty evil-eye, asked me to move on. I walked a little faster.

They've been busted a few times on various things. I remember one guy had some ponytail, which he simply put in a bun or something when on trial.

At Hogs & Heifers bar on 10th & Washington Ave in Manhattan, they have motorcycles outside, but you aren't allowed in wearing any gang tattoos or jackets. Too much risk for fights among rival gangs.

You are so right about 'our Dad's'. My Dad turned 88 last month. He still gets around/looks great. I met Bam Bam about 9 years ago while I was still in college. Him and Snuka were in some other wrestling "league" for has beens and up and comings. They came out the bar afterwards. It was Snuka's second visit up there and he still can drink and party like a mad man. I still wouldn't mess with him no matter how old he gets. He pulled an all nighter with my friend up there, drinking, smoking, and doing superflies off the couch before a 7am breakfast. The whole time he's partying and buying everyone shots he's saying stuff like "Its all about love, right brother?"

My first thought for this thread was Eastwood without a doubt. No I am not feeling lucky.

He went up to Hill in the layup lines and smacked him after Hill wouldn't give him the money he was owed from a game of dice.

Now THATS gangsta...

I had to bump this when I saw this bit from the latest Sports Guy article:

The John Shaft Award

This goes to Oakley. One of the networks needs to have a "Coolest guy on the planet" contest because Oakley would absolutely win. You know those "Road House" scenes in which Swayze just stands in the bar, surveying the scene with a thin smile on his face, barely moving a fingernail and meanwhile, 10 drunk guys are brawling a few feet away from him? That's what Oakley is like. You could hire some extras to play gang members at one of these parties, then have them fire blanks at each other 10 feet from Oakley and I'm not even sure he would flinch. The great thing about him: He served as MJ's enforcer in Chicago, and now they're both retired ... and from what I could tell, he's still Jordan's enforcer. Could there be a greater tribute in life to someone's kickassability than Michael Jordan himself deciding, "You know what? I need to make sure he's still on my side. I don't care if we're in our 40s."

Personally, I think Oak could do more. Why couldn't he become the next great action hero? He's got the looks, the size, the swagger ... at the very least, he could mumble through his lines and become the black Steven Seagal. For God's sake, everyone in the league is still afraid of him, personified by the one-sided Tyrone Hill/Oakley and Jeff McInnis/Oakley feuds, as well as the famous story of Oak slapping Barkley hard across the face during a '99 lockout players-only meeting, which became his signature "Here's why you don't mess with Oakley" moment.

Anyway, on Thursday night, I asked one relatively famous current player who knows him, "What makes Oakley more intimidating than everyone else?"

His answer: "There's a lotta tough guys in the league, but Oak don't give a f---."

Well, then. Should there be reality TV cameras following Oak around at all times? Sure, I think so. But what do I know? By the way, we're not done with him yet, either.

Oakley was without a doubt the guy in the NBA you wanted no part of.

Nice throwback! Now I'm trying to remember how I inspired this?

How about Scott Stevens? I was scared for Tie Domi's life when Stevens saw what he did to Niedermeyer in the 2002 playoffs while Stevens was in the box.

Of course Chuck Norris should be on this list as well.

A local man, Lou Tifoso, was arrested at the pharmacy he works at yesterday, when co-workers became fearful for their lives after Mr. Tifoso went on what is described as a rampage. Chuck Norris, for sure. Not Jackie Chan or Jet Li though, I have heard them both say in interviews that at this point in their lives they are not even close to the level of fighters they were when they were in their teens.

I wouldnt mess with Nolan Ryan either, he would like pick up a glass and hurl it at me and it would break in mid air and the glass shards would come at me like supersonic lightning bolts.

To be noted is that Mike Tyson will be turning 40 this June 30th. Maybe he has mellowed some and has lost his ring acumen, but he would be one of my top guys. He would wreck sh*t on a street level.

He wasn't picking fights in any of the scenarios. He supposedly slapped Barkley because he wasn't being at all agreeable to signing a reasonable deal and ending the lockout.

Tyrone Hill got jacked in the layup line for openly refusing to pay the couple of thousand dollars that he owed Oak.
