The Falcons will be the third straight NFC South team to humble the Eagles in Philly on their way to the Super Bowl.

I think the Falcons can run all over the Eagles defense and control the clock. McNabb can be forced into mistakes and without TO it will be alot tougher for him to find open targets while he is running for his life. Its going to look very similar to last year's game with the Falcons winning a low scoring war.

Falcons 17 Eagles 10

This is as close a game as you can get in the NFC between Philly and whoever

But im going to have to go with Philly

Yes even though TO is out, McNabb has shown he can throw it to many players with great accuracy, once a question mark in his past

The Eagles defense was tied for second best in the NFL last year in fewest points allowed per game

With Trotter and Kearse, they have two great defensive players who made an impact vs. the Vikings

And don't forget the weather - its a lot different going from rushing 300 yards in a warm dome to a freezing icy field

Philthadelphia is going to beat the effing bird feces out of the Falcons.

These damn Eagles are finally going back to the Super Bowl......ONLY to lose to whichever team wins the AFC.

ChewieTobbacca

Good defense beats good offense - just see Tampa Bay 2002 and the Patriots the last few years, and recently, against the Colts limiting the best offense to just one field goal.

As I see it right now, Philly stacks well against the Falcons. The Falcons best defense is their rush defense - and Philly doesnt play rush offense much at all. The Falcons aren't ranked very good versus pass defense - which is exactly what Philly has been best at. They destroyed the Packers in the regular season and the Vikings on Sunday both teams which are terrible at pass defense.

Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard were great in the pass defense - and Vick isn't exactly known as a great passer. Jevon Kearse and Jeremiah Trotter contained Culpepper and stopped the rush of Minnesota which bodes well for Philly against Vick.

And try running in the freezing ground of Philly..

My bad NYYFAN,

I accidently put another Eagles/Falcons thread on this forum. I apologize.

Anyway here's my analysis:

NFC Championship Game: Falcons vs. Eagles

The Falcons analysis: The Falcons have one of the best rushing units in the NFL, but they're goin' against a Philadelphia Eagles bunch very solid against the run. The X-Factor for this game is Michael Vick. If Vick can be very dangerous outside and can run to the open field, the Falcons have the edge. But if Vick, Warrick Dunn, and T.J. Duckett fail to run the ball, Vick needs to be successful throwing the football to Peerless Price and Alge Crumpler. On defense, the Falcons need to get pressure on Donovan McNabb, shut down Brian Westbrook, and the secondary play physical on the Eagles WRs.

The Eagles Analysis: Can the 4th time be the charm for the Eagles to get to the Superbowl under Andy Reid's helm? If they want to go to Jacksonville, they need a huge game out of McNabb, Westbrook, the Eagles WRs (Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell, and Greg Lewis) and also the Eagles D cutting off the running lanes and forcing Vick to make bad decisions with the football.

The Verdict: The Eagles need this win more than the Falcons. They have to make at least one superbowl appearance with this core of great players (McNabb and the D). The Broad Street Birds have lots of time with Terrell Owens on their roster for the rest of his career, but they need to captialize it with the young core and with this NFC Conference being very weak. If the Eagles shut down Michael Vick and if Westbrook and the Eagles WRs have a big game like in the Minnesota game, the Eagles win. If Vick can pick apart the Eagles, the Falcons trimuph and the Eagles go to 0-4 in NFC Championship games, 0-3 at home.

Eagles win by 10, 31-21.

Glad to see everyone is pulling for the Dirty Birds. Saturday night was unbelievable in Atlanta.

I just hope they can go to Philly and repeat their run performance. The snow and weather will definitely be a factor. This guarantees that a team that lost it last two regular season games will make the Super Bowl.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Eagles fans? They really suck.

Going out on a limb here and going to say that the winner of this game surprises folks in Jacksonville.

I saw both teams live this season, and neither impressed me as a Superbowl type team.

There is no football team I dislike more than the Philadelphia Eagles. I hate to say it, but I don't think the Falcons have a chance. The Eagles run D is way too powerful. Last week the Falcons had 80something yards passing and over 300 running. Donovan will be able to pick apart their secondary and the Eagles will avoid running against that tough Falcons D-Line. Not to mention Phillie is a tough place to play.

I hate to say it, but I think they are Super Bowl bound.

Now for the funny party- The Eagles do not match up well against the Steelers or the Patriots.

Vick will run circles around the Philly D. ATL's D isnt too shabby either. Without TO, and only Pinky the Coward and the People's Chump to rely on through the air, Philly's toast.

This is just funny right here. How are they going to win when on of their recievers is scared to get hit?

I'd be surprised if the Eagles choke yet again in the NFC Championship. Their D is tough this year. However, if Atlanta gets an early lead, it wouldn't surprise if McLimbaugh reverts to his old form.

The only way I can see this is as an under bet(Atl. was under 11-17 Phi. was under 12-17 this season). Unfortunatly, the public has the same idea. The total, which opened at 42 is down to 38. Assuming it stays there, I'll make a token play (under) just to have a rooting interest.

I'd love to see the Falcons win, but I think Philly takes a squeeker on the strength of their kicker.

The mayor of Atlanta has declared Friday a Red Alert here in Hotlanta for the Dirty Birds.

I think it is funny that the spread has moved an entire point for 4.5 to 5.5 Eaglits.

For all those saying the Super Bowl is in Heinz Field on Sunday... to take a quote from the infamous Herm Edwards..."You play the game to win!"

If I am not mistaken... the Super Bowl is a sixty minute game right? You still have to play the game!

Atlanta. I'm pulling for Philly, but it's just not happening. Atlanta has one the best run offenses in the NFL. while the Philly run defense is mediocre at best. Atlanta's amazing rushing game will take them to the Super Bowl.

Atlanta has been overrated all year. Their schedule was ridiculously easy. Anyone can look good on turf against the Rams. Remember the Rams are but two measly games away from being Dallas and the NYG. The NFC was just so bad this year that a team like the Rams was bound to get to where they were. Philly is the only real team left in the NFC. Let's see how good Vick is on grass in this type of weather.

I actually thought all the square bets would be on Philly which would scare me, but most polls I've seen have it even.

I go for Philly by double digits. As for the total, I hate when bad weather is involved since it's just another unpredictable factor to deal with. I've seen bad weather ruin defenses as well as offenses.

The NFC has been so terrible which is why Vick and ATL has looked so good

ATL was 4-4 away, Eagles are 8-1 at home

ATL plays on turf, the Eagles are going to be playing in freezing temperatures at home

ATL scored 3 (!!) whole points more than their defense gave up

Eagles were tied with the Patriots in terms of defense

After they shuffled the line and put in Trotter as middle linebacker, the number of rush yard given up dropped considerably

Eagles blitz and defense set up is made similar to Tampa Bay which always seems to shutdown Vick

IMO Vick wouldn't be rated so high if he didn't tear up the Rams (a very bad defensive team) or didn't have so many highlight reels

I agree-Atlanta is a overrated team in a very weak NFC, and Philly's defense will present a lot of problems for Vick. I think the Eagles will win this game by ten points.

wow i am surprised by this poll

first off, the eagles are winning, their defense is going to overwhelm vick, hes going to be forced to throw on the run/on the wrong foot/under pressure. We all know what this will lead to. Secondly, mcnabb has the power to find targets on the field. He doesnt need TO to win games, he has already proven that the last few weeks. The only way i see the falcons winning is if the eagles have a complete meltdown. My prediction is the eagles winning 31-17, vick throws 3 interceptions.

lem
01-23-05, 12:32 AM
I don't know if anyone has realized this but Michael Vick isn't a good quarterback. His -18.5 DPAR (a statistic which measures the QB's value over replacement level on plays where he throws or runs the ball) was good enough for 37th in the league, 5 whole points behind Eli Manning. Three of the five QB's that he's better than played for Chicago.

I don't think Atlanta stands a chance. I predict they'll lose, 34-14.

NYYBombshell

I'm going with Philly. I think the Falcons got lucky last week against the Rams and I think their luck is about to run out. Then again, I think the Eagles are without Owens, so I don't know how that's going to handicap them.

I live in Atlanta and those damn Falcon logos are everywhere. I can't wait for this game to be over so the people down here can go back to not caring about sports until the Braves start playing again.

I'm gonna go with the Falcons on this one, based somewhat on McNabb's 50.5 QB Rating in NFC Title Games (1 TD, 5 INT). Vick might not throw for 300 yards, but he'll run for 100.

If that happens, a screen could be murder.

The Beagles will be trying for their 4th ring in two weeks. It will take a HUGE game, I believe to beat whichever team represents the AFC.

XP is good. 27-10. Vick is going to get hammered now.

Even though the Falcons will lose, the Falcons had a great season. Once Michael Vick can learn how to pass and add that passing element to his running ability, the Falcons can be even more dangerous.

It's nothin' but frustration for the Falcons right now.

But Jim Mora, even though will be disappointed with the loss, will wake up the next morning and realize his team made a lot of leaps and bounds to respectability.

You're the 2nd person to tell me that today!!! I swear. AND, the other one, at work, is a dorky Cowboys fan (and again, I repeat myself. )

In this area, I have a helluva lot more respect for Steelers fans. I tend to know who they are and they wear their colors all the time. Some, of course, are jerks but most I know are pretty cool, hard-working, down-to-earth types.

I only live about 90 minutes from Philthajersey. Their fans, I'm convinced, are not of this Planet. They're a whole different breed from other fans. They're like Anti-Fans. They show up just waiting for the Loss, so they can throw crap at other people near them. Miserable Bastids. Jersey don't want them. Pennsylvania doesn't want them.
Too bad the Liberty Bell wasn't made from an Eagles' fan's skull. It wouldn't have cracked.

Eagles Win NFC Title, Fans Boo Hot Dog Vendor
by Scott Ott

(2005-01-23) -- As the clock wound down to the Eagles first NFC championship in four consecutive attempts, confused Philadelphia fans began booing an incompetent food vendor who dropped a hotdog.

"I felt sorry for the poor guy," said one Conshohocken resident who witnessed the verbal assault. "Philadelphia fans are just so accustomed to booing at the end of the NFC title game, that when the Eagles won they had to vent on someone."

The vendor escaped without injury, however, he said he's still in shock.

"I thought they liked me," said the man, still trembling. "It was always 'Hey, Hot Dog man!' They always seemed happy to see me. Then I drop one dog, and suddenly they're on me like sauerkraut."

Nice job, but you could always delete Mahe (34) and Bartrum (88) from the wallpaper and add Brian Westbrook (36), Terrell Owens (81), Brian Dawkins (20), Jevon Kearse (93), and Jeremiah Trotter (54). ;)

The Falcons coaching staff must have been smoking something. Where was TJ Duckett? In a frigid, windy day, common sense dictates that Atlanta puts this game on the shoulders of the running game (Duckett & Dunn). Vick stinks! He's by far the most overrated player in the NFL.

Oh well, that means the Patriots will have to beat Phily, rather than Atlanta in SBXXXIX. :D
