With all the talk of Peyton (deservedly so), Daunte Culpepper's accomplishments have been completely eclipsed. His 2004 numbers:

379/548 (69.2%) , 4717 YDS, 39 TD, 11 INT 110.9 PR

That passer rating puts him fourth of all time, behind only Peyton, Young, and Montana.

Not to mention, Daunte had 406 YDS rushing on 88 carries. Good year, man.

You're so right. That IS a good season for a guy I've always tended to put in the category of "running QBs", or anyone else for that matter. Michael Vick wishes he could be half the actual QUARTERBACK that Culpepper is. Those rushing yards average out to about 25 yards per game--I can live with that from a QB.

Daunte is like having another offensive lineman out there. Living here in Arizona we got to see the Vikes a few times, the man is a TRUCK. Corner blitzes are useless because there is no way somebody flying off the corner is going to tackle him before he can get rid of the ball.

He's also gained confidence in his wideouts not named Moss which has made him more difficult to sit on in zones. He's an excellent QB.

He got a raw deal having his season the same year Peyton had the best season for a QB ever. He threw the 7th most TDs in a season EVER (as of yesterday-he might have moved to sixth after yesterday's game-I don't know) and was great week in and week out. Unfortunately, no one will talk about it because Peyton was just that much better. Good work, Daunte.

Daunte Culpepper had a solid regular season. He doesn't rely on the Daunte-to-Randy Moss ratio anymore.

Daunte Culpepper had a solid regular season. He doesn't rely on the Daunte-to-Randy Moss ratio anymore.

I'd say it was better than solid, considering the fact that he had the 4th best QB rating of any QB in the history of football in a single season (according to an earlier post), a completion percentage of close to 70%, and the 7th most TD passes in history, all while throwing only 11 INTs. He had one of the best years for a QB ever in a year where a guy (Manning) had the best, so he's overshadowed.
