Julie's Boys are going to win in a Romp! 35-17. They're tough and a lot of folks are forgetting about them.
I'm going SD on this one...
SD gets one more win this year.

My vote was the first for the Jets. I'm a Giants fan, but I saw alot of Jets games this year, my roommate is a Jets fan, and they are alot better than a 10-6. They'll win this weekend, and then fall to the Pats or Steelers in a close game.

Flutie didn't look too bad today as backup...and Rivers wasn't bad either at third-string!

Well I'm sorry u don't like it ;) It'll be a fun game...
I don't think you have anything to worry about here Julie.
Although, I did hear that the Jets drew up a new offensive play for the game next week.
No, wait... that wasn't the Jets.

They did, John! It's called "Curtis Martin tries the right side."
I'm going with my Jets, as I have in every official prediction in a game since I was born.
Seriously, I think the Jets have a very good shot to compete and win. They beat the Chargers earlier in the season in San Diego (though, granted, it was a different Chargers team), and I think they can beat them again. It's not going to be easy by any means, and I'm not looking forward to whoever they play the next week if they do win, but I think the Jets have a solid shot in this one.

They've got "a very good shot to compete", do they? Technically, doesn't every team have a shot to compete? :P Reminds me of this Dave McGinnis classic after the Cards' whopping 9-6 win over my 'Boys (good grief, was that a dark day):
"What did we expect? WHAT DID WE EXPECT??? We expected it, men. We expected it! And when you expect to win, you earn the right to be there to win. You've earned the right to EXPECT to win. And you've earned much more than that."

of course I picked the Jets too...how can I go against my own team??
do I think they will win?? I dont know.....Im not fully confident although I feel much better about this matchup then if we had to play Indy (seeing how badly Bulger torched our secondary just imagine what Peyton would have done
:scared: )
I think the defense will rebound in this one....they have done a great job all year of stopping the run and I expect them to hold down LT....they will make Brees beat them, which he certainly can do....obviously Gates must be the focus of the secondary
we did put up 34 points on SD in Week 2...I'd be ecstatic if we can put 24 in this game....Chad is gonna have to step up and win this game because I expect SD to contain Martin
the best thing about this game being on Sat night....is I will be at Jillian's out on LI with friends watching this...so if they lose I can get drunk and totally forget about it (at least for the night ;) )
I'm going with my heart Jets 23 Chargers 20

I pick the San Diego Super Chargers at this game. The Chargers have been red hot and the Jets are falling apart. If the Jets don't shut down Ladainian Tomlinson, the Jets will be in a long, long game.

I see absolutely no reason why I should believe that the Jets will win this game. The Jets have a slightly better defense than the Chargers (possibly) while the Chargers have a MUCH better offense than the Jets and I won't even get into the difference between coaching staffs.
edit: And the way the Jets defense has played the last 2 games, the Chargers defense might be better. Their secondary surely is. The good news is that John Abraham is probable to play and he is really going to help out the pass rush.

I'm a big Flutie fan, when I was going to Northeastern I even bought some Flutie Flakes. I always thought he got a raw deal in the NFL. He just finds ways to make things happen. If I'm Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers I am listening to everything the man tells me because he's a leader.
Even though you have openly rooted against my Big Blue I will stick the Chargers this week.

Going against their 3-4 defense scares me as we usually have trouble running against that type of defense. Rain also means that J. Abraham most likely won't play. By the way, f*ck John Abraham. He obviously cares more about himself than the team.

Woody Paige? Who the hell is that? Don't tell me you actually laughed at that. It's third grade humor. And if you think Drew Brees is going to beat us you are crazy. He's one bad game away from the bench.

He's said some things that makes it seem he doesn't want to risk an injury on his knee since this is his FA year. And that he'd rather not play in the game than take that risk. If he plays, then fine. But, if he doesn't, f*ck him. He has to play in this game. My guess is he also is not happy with the fact that he might be franchised.

He does Around the Horn and Cold Pizza. He always says stuff like that and doesn't really know what he's talking about.
Looking at the Chargers schedule, it's been incredibly soft and they haven't beaten anyone impressive. Of course, you can argue that the Jets haven't either.
edit: By the way, does anybody know what time this game starts exactly? I've heard both 8 PM and 8:30 PM, so I'm guessing it's sometime in the middle. The reason I ask is I had dinner plans with some family and friends and I made them change the time to 6 PM because of this game. Very frustrating. It's also annoying that he is such an integral part of our defense but never can play a 16 game season and doesn't seem to actually have much heart. He's got a ton of talent though. I'd still franchise him though to get one more year.

Well, if we are not counting overtime of the STL-SEA game (which is very possible), we have to count the broadcast intro of Michaels and Madden, and then some other nonsense that they have to do before the game..I would have to anticipate that the game wont begin until 8:15 or so.
Now, if overtime stretches out to the point of last weeks NYJ-STL game (one hour) in the first game, then we will miss out on the first quarter of the game with no ability to get the game anywhere else on TV. Lets just get that first game over with in reasonable enough time.
On your point of SD's soft schedule; I can make the argument that SD has done a better job playing those teams than NYJ has had with their opponents. While the Jets have played close and down to the wire, SD has been blowing out some of their opponents with ease.
Think about it, the Jets went 10-6 and there is still is feeling of unfulfillment in Jet Nation as if they played worse than their record as if it were 8-8.

Nope, still got 4th down. That was the problem with the Gaints choking in San Fran 2 years ago. They tried to win the game on a FG on 3rd down, the snap was bad and they lost. If the holder picked it up, fell, and called a timeout, they would have had another chance, and probably would have won.

I haven't been on a roller coaster ride like that since the 2003 ALCS Game 7.
Absolutely incredible. From complete elation when they threw the incompletion to complete despair when they called Roughing the Passer (which was clearly the right call), to happiness when the Chargers were forced to punt, to unhappiness when the Jets went three and out, to knowing for sure that the Jets had lost it when the Chargers kicker set up for his field goal to feeling good about things again when he missed, to figuring Brien would miss his 28 yarder just to screw with us, and then KNOWING he would after San Diego called the timeout, to happiness (and a great sense of relief, knowing that I hadn't had to sit through one of the worst losses in postseason history).
I'm relieved and happy right now, but I'm not looking forward to taking on the Steelers or Pats next week after going deep into OT for two straight weeks. :uhh:
It's all the more satisfying that Chad had a tremendous clutch game and that they won when so many were picking them not only to lose, but to get blown out.

Going with the Chargers...& the 'under'. :)You really need to consult with me next time you bet a Jets game. The whole season, I was wrong on only 1 game.
Sorry to all the Charger fans here, what an awful way to lose. Congratulations to all the Jets fans, you proved me wrong, I didn't think you'd go in there and win.
That game had me nervous too, and I'm a Pats fan! AFC East rules!!
Thanks. :(
Oh Man!! I was just coming in to say, "Go Julie!" The game was on yesterday? That's what I get for doing chores all day.
See---you were late and now it's your fault they lost! Thanks for nothing! ;)
i dont think theres anyone more in the world that i hate more than eric parker
that guy is sooooooooo annoying
Why? :dunno:

:( Next year I'll be better, promise ;)

Don't be down, NJ Fan,
The Chargers had a great season. They'll be back.

I can't believe it...Schottenheimer out-Hacketted Hackett. I didn't think it was possible for any coaching staff to be more conservative than the Jets until the OT period when Schott called for 3 straight runs against an excellent Jet run D.
Classic Hackett.

Don't be down, NJ Fan,
The Chargers had a great season. They'll be back.I think they will be back...they are young and talented but you can't call it a great season with a home playoff loss like that.

I'm trying not to be down. I couldn't watch the postgame...I'm just now starting to watch the Marty, Brees & LT press conferences.
P.S. For those who are appalled at Tomlinson being referred to as "LT", well, deal with it. He didn't name himself, I didn't give him the nickname.....he has it and he'll keep it.
For your own good, if you ever run into the original "LT" as I did, DON'T call him, "LT!" He doesn't respond and he gets upset. He now says that he is not "LT." He is Lawrence Taylor!
He associates his LT persona as a drugged-out, strung-out nobody who played well at a game.
I think they will be back...they are young and talented but you can't call it a great season with a home playoff loss like that.
Sorry, I am calling it a great season because they went from 4-12 with everyone expecting the same this year, to 12-4 and winning the AFC West.

You are obviously a glass half full person. As a Jet fan accustomed to brutal losses, if my team had a year like that only to lose a playoff home game like that I would be miserable and pessimistic. Good for you that you feel that way. (no sarcasm intended)

I'm a Jet fan accustomed to brutal losses, but I think the Chargers had a great season considering what was expected of them and what they did last year. It was bad for them that they lost a home playoff game, but I think they lost to a pretty good football team (in us). It was the first time they've even made the playoffs in quite a while, so I think it was a great season for them.

By the way, the Jets have three new votes since the game ended last night. Risky picks by those three. ;) (The vote at the time the game ended was 38-18 Chargers)

So true. If the Chargers had been to the playoffs 3 times in the last 4 years....and lost that home playoff game last night, I would say the season was a huge letdown. They weren't. They haven't even smelled the playoffs! The season was great...for them. They have one of the youngest teams in the NFL. No one had any playoff experience. I'm giving them a pass! :)

I noticed that too!

I am the glass-half-full type. I'll repeat the response I just posted....

I'm not into kicking people while they are down. Good season, the Chargers are one of the teams on the rise in the league, along with the Jets.

NJFan, you have a lot of class.
How long have you been a Charger fan? I've been watching them since the Air Coryell (sp?) days, with Chuck Muncie, Kellen Winslow, Wes Chandler, Dan Fouts, boy I could go on and on, I loved watching those teams. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Chargers.
The game they played against the Dolphins in the playoffs about 25 years ago was the greatest game I have ever seen. You guys won that day, and I hope for fans like you there will come a time when they win it all. :)
