Taking this from the other thread...who's your favorite all time?

My favorite all time player, who I believe belongs in the HOF is Ken "the Snake" Stabler...

I believe the winning-est Monday Night QB in History...

1974, 1976 AFC “Player of the Year”
1974 “Offensive Player of the Year”
1976 NFL “Player of the Year” and NFL Passing Champion
1977 led the Oakland Raiders to Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings
“All Pro Team” in 1974, 1976 & 1977
Played the Pro Bowl in 1973, 1974 & 1976
Most victories of a Raiders quarterback - 71
All time leading Raiders passer in attempts, completions, completion percentage, yardage and touchdowns
Hickok Belt 1976
Led the Raiders to their 1st Super Bowl Championship in 1977

The guy was Mr. Cool and if not for the great Pitt teams and a bad call in the Denver AFC Title game could of been in 4 or 5 Super-bowls.Was involved in many famous plays:

Ghost to the Post
Sea of Hands
Holy Roller

On the D side it was the original L.T.

On offense, nobody more fun to watch than Barry Sanders.

LT & Mark Bavaro.

(Polar opposites, huh?)

For the record, I don't think that LaDainian Tomlinson should be called "LT."

Same way I feel about the Denver QB Plummer being called Snake..

Ray Nitschke. For active players, it's gotta be Brett. :gulp:

Kellen Winslow.

I thought the "LT" nickname for Tomlinson was horrible but now there's no going back. I met the "Original" LT at an airport in Florida earlier this year and he asked me NOT to call him "LT." He says he is no longer associated with that name.

P.S. I got my Birthday wish, NYY!!!! ;)

That's Kellen Winslow SENIOR! You don't like him? He practically singlehandedly made me a football fan in 1980!

Troy Aikman, forever. Irreplaceable. :gulp: His stats weren't the flashiest, but I don't doubt they could have been had they needed to be. A flat-out champion, classy, and an all-around great dude.

bxny, that second choice is disgusting. :barf:

EDIT: Let's branch this out a little. Who's your favorite player of all-time not on your favorite team?

Mine: John Elway, Shannon Sharpe.

That's OK----I figured you thought it was Jr. :) His dad was a tough player with TONS of heart! He went to the Pro Bowl several times and he's in the HOF. He was one great TE.
His son seems to be a punk though.

Being from Texas, my dad's a Cowboys fan first, but he lived in SD during the '70s and '80s. When I wasn't hearing about Staubach & Co., I was hearing stories about the greatness of Dan Fouts and Kellen Winslow. In his mind, Fouts is the greatest QB he's ever seen, with the exception of Montana.

I hate the 'Boys, but Troy has my utmost respect.

I couldn't agree more with you about the :barf:

My favorite non G-man? Favre was just so much fun to watch over the years. Next was Montana, he was just so calm cool and collected in big moments.

But from what I hear of him, Ray Nitchske was simply unreal.

Without a doubt, Mark Bavaro. He was everything I thought a football player should be.

Barry Sanders,
Most exciting player I have ever seen.

Also Brady gets a vote from me because he did lead my team to 2 superbowls.

I'd have loved to have seen him and Butkus and those sorts of guys do their thing first-hand. Not to mention Johnny U. One of the reasons why NFL Films is such a phenomenally great institution.

If you ever get the chance, watch the NFL Classic called "Epic In Miami" which they show every once in a while. It's a playoff game on 1/2/82 which shows the heart of Fouts and, especially the grit of Winslow. It's been called the "Greatest NFL Game" by a lot of football folks.

L.T. However, as I look back at the way he could accelerate, blast through the blockers and tackle the snot out of whoever had the ball, I wonder how much of his ability to excel the way he did was due to the white line or some other performance aid? If it was all natural ability, he was one of the mosted gifted atheletes ever.

Shannon & the Original Horse toothed Jackass??? :barf: :smokin:

There's too many. Ronnie Lott played the game the way I think it should be played. Man, he was just a BEAST with those hits he made.

LT was perhaps the greatest LB ever, and as I stated earlier, Ray Nitschke was my favorite.

Bo Jackson would have easily been a 1st round HOFer. What an amazing talent.

John Riggins was a linebacker at RB. Plus, you had to love his comments to Sandra Day O'Connor. "Come on Sandy Baby! Lighten the ................ up!" :gulp:

I could go on & on....

Wow, that's a tough one . . . I've got so many (can you have lots of favorites???) . . . I'll name a few:

Past on my favorite team: Charlie Waters, Drew Pearson, Too Tall Jones . . . almost anyone from that era actually, more recent past would be Moose Johnston, Troy Aikman, ( I guess I can't put Emmitt Smith on here since he's still active with that other team  )

Past on other teams: Kellen Winslow, Walter Peyton

Present I really don't have any and definitely none on the current Cowboys . . . I like Ray Lewis (as a player, no comment on the other stuff), Marc Bulger (but a lot of that is because he played at WVU) . . . like I said, no one really.

I have too many to name just one. Here's a few of them, several have already been mentioned....

Earl Campbell, Rice, Stabler, Elway, Montana, Payton, Plunkett, Alstott, and I can't forget Dwight Clark. He'll always hold a special place in my memory.

My favorite Cowboy: Jackie Smith. He really knew how to not catch'em when it mattered the most. Great! GREAT! Cowboy.:D

I could be wrong but I bet you're a Steeler fan. :)

I always loved Franco too until I met him. Back when I worked with TSA, he came thru security so I got excused and went up to him to shake his hand and get an autograph. He was on his cell phone. He said something to whomever he was talking to about me--pissed me off. I just walked away from him.

Everybody else on your list were favorites too. It was hard for me to dislike them, especially when I was in the Army in Germany. I was a kid then and having a PA team in the Super Bowl seemed cool then.
Jack Lambert was great--he reminded me of Mr. Nitschke! Missing teeth, dirty ass uniform, blood all over the place! :gulp:

I grew to despise Harris.....he ALWAYS ran straight for the sideline as soon as somebody got close to him. &po'd&

Ward and Porter are my two favorites now.

Past - Steve Grogan. The guy left everything he had out on the field. In the end, he was being held together with baling wire, and he was still running those freakin' naked bootlegs. Steve Nelson is a close second... heart as big as could be, and ferocious as hell despite his relative lack of size.

Present - Troy "What can Brown do for you?" Brown. :D I've been a fan of his since he clawed his way onto the roster years ago and stayed there with a grand combination of talent, guts and stubborness. If Brady's the guy I want throwing the ball with a game on the line, Brown is without a doubt the guy I want catching it.

And I am SO glad to see him getting some national attention with his defensive play. It's about time he got some recogniton. :)
