Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and their fans for winning the 2004 World Series! As far as I'm concerned, the Sox showed incredible heart and determination by coming back from the dead against the Yankees in the ALCS, and truly earned the right to be called World Champions.
I tip my cap to the players, and their diehard fans, who waited so long to get there. Special congratulations to the Boston fans who have become valued members of our community here. Enjoy the moment, guys.
I look forward to another great battle for the pennant next season.

here here! I am a die hard yankee fan, but these guys were actually fun to watch. They actually reminded me of the yankees 1996-2000 (minus the facial hair and mullets)
They played with a never say die persona and won outright.
what else can you say but congratulations to a team that really deserved it
Congratulations to the Sox and their fans. It was an unbelievable comeback against the Yankees in the ALCS, and complete domination of the Cardinals in the WS.
I remember last July, when the Yankees swept the Sox and Johnny Damon gave an interview in which he said that the Sox still thought they were going to win the World Series. How right he turned out to be.

The Red Sox truly showed what a team is. As much as it bothers me to say this, but they really deserve it. Shutting down baseball's two best teams is not small feat. Enjoy it Red Sox fans.
Congratutlations Red Sox and the long suffering fans.

Did they win?..... I wouldn't watch..... ;) Anyway I heard there was a baseball strike during the 2004 baseball season, so there could be no world series.... :P
Seriously though, congrats Sox and Sox fans. You sure as hell waited a LOOOOOONG time for it, and your crazy team definitely earned it. See you in the spring training :gulp:
Congratulations and enjoy!
No matter what the future brings, the Red Sox are (amazingly...) the 2004 World Series champs and I commend the dedicated and intelligent fanbase of the Red Sox achieving something that can't be taken for granted.

You all are awesome to offer congrats (seriously) :) ... Thank you!! I don't really understand this feeling of what you Yankee fans call "winning" ... lol ... It is strange, I can honestly say that when we were down 0-3 in the ALCS I really thought that I wouldn't see a Red Sox WS in my lifetime (I should be shot for not believing)... Anyway, thanks for sharing and letting us finally win one!!!! Your club has been incredibly, incredibly successful and the one WS in 86 years we've won means a lot to fans like me. Eh, what the hell.
Congrats to the Red Sox. I'm not going to lie and say that I like the team, because I certainly don't, but a part of me is happy that folks like Wakefield and Manny got WS rings.
I'm tempted to throw Pedro in there just for the fact that he's been such a great pitcher for years and has finally gotten the big one.
Oh, and Lowe - Schilling did nothing to shut me up, but Lowe got my respect. The dude that everybody dismissed breathed life into the Sox in the ALCS and stopped any chance of a Cardinals, well, anything in the World Series. So, congrats to you. Just . . . be careful not to let Boras drool all over your ring.
I still hate your team. :D

i am just suprised that i am not bitter at all. I sorta ran from school just to see this happen. I am a Hardcore yankee fan and I hate the Red Sox with all my heart but not like son of steinbrenner lol that hate is just unhealthy lol ... i could expect that hate from a red sox fan since we put them thru some much pain. But tonite I after it became obivous that the red sox were going to win i didn't feel about about it . When they won i called up a couple of red sox fans that i knew (the same one that would bother me for years LOL ) and told them congrats. I am just happy for the sox. Also i hope the yankees learned their lesson and from this use this to fuel their fire for the 2005 season.

Congrats to the Sox. They completely dominated both the Angels and Cardinals and were able to fight back against the Yanks. I truly think that the Sox and Yankees were the two best teams in baseball this year, and while my heart would love to say that the Yankees were better, the Sox are the World Champions and that is the true measure in my eyes of who the best team is, or at least the best team at this point in the year.

Quinnipiac University tonight.
Down the hall from me, lives a Red Sox fan I respect ALOT. I spent the last 2 innings watching the game with him. He was talking to hsi dad, lied down on the floor outside his room, and they cried together. It was awesome.
Later, people went to the quad, where there was a rally. It was the most peaceful thing I have ever seen.
Then, in my hallway, 3 girls got into a water bottle fight. It was beautiful.
Even though I'm a huge Yankees fan, I'm happy about what happened tonight. It's weird. It's amazing, it's thrilling, it's incredible.

This is a tremendous thread and thank you for all the classy posts. I'm looking forward to the rivalry now moving to a higher and better level from 2005 forward. One that respects the fact that both ballclubs have excellent teams and loyal fans, and no longer has references to 1918 or the Curse of the Bambino. From now on, it's just "may the best team win." And I think we can all live with that.

Congrats to the Sox and all their loyal fans. :)

It would be hard to make it better in fiction. The 4 game sweep over the Cards was somewhat anti-climactic but that will be forgotten quickly. The Sox showed a lot of heart. The eight errors in the first two games were....wierd...but didn't matter. Other than winning the World Series, the only thing that will be remembered is that they won it by coming back against the Yanks. Great season Sox.

Even the most diehard Yankee fan has to respect what the Red Sox just did. Backs against the wall against the team that had owned them for years, they bring it back and won it in the house that Ruth built, beating likely the greatest clutch closer this game has ever seen along the way. Then no letdown against a team with one of the best regular season records ever. They could have stumbled, and chalked it up to just being beaten by the better team like they had every time they've lost the World Series since 1920.
Simply amazing.
And cheers to the Yankee fans that can swallow their pride for a moment. We're all on equal footing now. Here's to a great 2005 season.
Congratulations, Boston. You absolutely deserved this.

Wow! Thank you very much Yankee fans for the classy reception! I haven't posted in here since 9/11 - at which time I said that our two cities are inextricably linked. What makes it so great to be a Red Sox fan - and I imagine to some extent the same is true of being a Yankee fan - is having that rival on the other side. I have to say, winning this World series was anticlimactic for me. Beating the Yankees was the real thrill of this season.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Thank God for the New York Yankees. It wouldn't be any fun without you guys.
Till next season - take care and get that checkbook ready! ;)

Its kind of disappointing that it was so anti-climactic. I mean, if I was a Sox fan, I would not have wanted it to go that way, in St. Louis. It would have been better if they had one a close game 7 in Boston. Its so much better when its not a foregone conclusion by the end.

if anything i would of loved it to be won in fenway ... to see all the fans reactions ... they probably would rush the field. the cops would of probably let them since it would be like 30,000 on the field compared to like 200 cops or so on the field lol

I kind of felt the same way, but I doubt there are any Sox fans thinking, "jeesh, if only we won it this other more dramatic way," you know? Besides, overwhelming dominance isn't a bad way to go.

Pretty cool response from the Yankees fans...and the Red Sox folks who lurk here. Ultimately, it's baseball, the best game there is. Talk about unity.
Now, if we could just get rid of w.... JUST kidding. Sort of.

A Sox fan works across from me and we were both stuck at the job tonight during the game. He was beyond nervous rocking back and forth in his chair and he kept rolling over to my desk to talk baseball. What a weird moment as a diehard Yankee fan kept assuring a diehard Sox fan that this was the year for them. I left work before the final out, but I am really looking forward to seeing the Sox fans at work tomorrow and hearing their reactions.
For those people I am happy, they deserve it. The Red Sox played their guts out and I want all of the "Nation" to enjoy it...enjoy it while it lasts anyway cause just like the Terminator we'll be back!
One last hearty congrats to the classy Red Sox fans who have waited so long, this one is for you. :gulp:
Thank you for the kind, heartfelt congratulations from Yankees fans. I have always felt that Yankees fans, like Red Sox fans, are divided into two broad categories -- those who love their team and its history, the game of baseball, and the rivalries, and those fans hate their rivals more than they enjoy their own team.
Red Sox fans from that second group are the ones who pathetically chant "Yankees suck" (to the embarassment of many of us) and I have no particular sympathy for their frustration with past team disappointments.
So, to the Yankee fans from the first group I described, the "good" fans, I feel bad for your disappointment this season. I know how frustrating it must have been. I must also acknowledge that half of the achievement in winning the ALCS wasn't just "beating the Yankees" but was beating the best, because that's what the Yankees are, the best; the most successful organization in the history of baseball.
And to the Yankee fans who delight in the misery of Red Sox fans, I hope that your loss, and our victory, hurt. I hope it hurts a lot and continues to throughout a long, cold offseason. I hope your Red Sox fan friends give you all kinds of ................, because you deserve and I hope it drives you crazy.
So thank you again to all the very kind and thoughtful well wishes from the many fine Yankee fans on this forum.

I thank the classy fans here who have enough self-esteem to be able to compliment another team or person without thinking it diminishes their own glory.
I truly and honestly look forward to competing with you all next year, this time as equals. I look forward to putting aside all the hatred and enjoying the game of baseball with passionate fans. I doubt it will happen, but now that we have nothing to prove, I think we all have nothing to lose by showing mutual respect.

Wow, this is unreal. As much as I have declared my hatred for the Sox this season one can do nothing but tip the cap for this Red Sox team.
Guys like Manny and Pedro really deserves a ring IMO and the loyal classy fans deserves this as well.
I often said I hated the Red Sox but respected them and my respect for them grew bigger this post-season.
They could have rolled over and died twice, first in game 4 and then in game 5 but they showed guts and heart and after those two comebacks they just played excellent baseball (expect for the errors in game 1 and 2 of the WS)from that point on.
You dont come back from 0-3 against the Yankees unless you are a great great team and you guys proved your worth this year.
Never thought I would say this, but here it comes so enjoy this Red Sox fans.
Congratulations to the 2004 World Series Champions the Boston Red Sox and their fans!!!

Thank you very much for the congrats and wonderful words you all have posted here. As a Sox fan, it's a special feeling that we're all going through today. When Foulke tossed that ball over to first base to end it, for one of the very few times in my life, I was speechless. I looked over at my fiance, with tears in my eyes, and mouthed "We Did It!". Lips were moving, but nothing was coming out.
The Yankees fans on this site have been great (ok, some haven't, but same can be said of the Sox fans as well). It's always a pleasure for me to come here and talk baseball with fans who are just as passionate of their team as I am of mine, and now, after last night, I can truly appreciate the dedication of the Yankees organization, and the fans that follow them. It's a tough thing to do, win this thing they call the World Series, but to win it 26 times, just amazing.
Thanks again for allowing me to come on here and share in this moment. I look forward to a great 2005 season!!
Congrats to the Sox and their fans, it was a long time coming, enjoy your victory.

You guys have followed the franchise through thick and thin, and put up with endless taunting and maligning by the fans and media.
Those of you who sat and waited, refusing to be drawn into the fighting and arguments, refusing to chant frivolous things like "Yankees suck", knowing that one day your day would come, are the best sort of fan that there is in any sport.
Now lets try and hold off Tampa Bay in the coming years...

I work in the seaport district. At about 7 am this morning as I approached my office building, the sox passed by in 6 buses, with a police escort. I gather they were on their way to Fenway. The motorists honked their horns in appreciation.
Otherwise, yeah, very quiet around town. The office is only slightly abuzz.

Hey! Congrats to all. Spent an enjoyable night watching the game with my wife last night. As many know, she is a life long Sox fan from MA, and it was quite a sight to see them win it all last night.
I'm not even going to get upset when she sends our oldest son to school with a Sox shirt on.
Funny story.... Last week, she went to put it on him for school (he is 5), he saw it was a Sox shirt, and told her "Daddy will be mad" :)

Thank you for all of the wonderful comments.
I say the following with complete sincerity. Last night was a life-changing experience for millions of Red Sox fans, including me. I wish you Yankee fans could have experienced this as we did, to see what it feels like. When our Celtics and Patriots and Bruins won in my lifetime, it was nice. But the Red Sox are part LIFE to us. We think back to all of the cookouts, the rides in the car, the office talk, all of the days with our parents and grandparents pouring our hearts and souls into our team, only to fall short. And now it all finally came true. I was incredibly happy last night, but I unfortunately had to work and couldn't really celebrate.
And I didn't want to be in Kenmore Sq. I didn't want to be in a bar. I didn't even really want to be with friends. I desperately, longingly, wanted to be with my mom and dad. Because last night, it was about family.

Congrats to the Red Sox and their fans from this Baltimore Orioles fan.
If it were not for the Orioles, the Sox would be my team.
I can remember so many Red Sox losses, game seven in the '67 WS going up against Bob Gibson (that was an impossible task), the 1975 7th game loss on Bill Lee's blooper pitch, the Bucky Dent HR in the 1978 playoff game, the ball going through Buckner's legs in '86, and of course last year, the ridiculous decison to leave Martinez in game seven after he ran out of gas.
The Red Sox rule, and they deserve it.

We'll be coming even harder next year, so be ready!! ;)

I would like to offer my Congrats as well...
The Red Sox played their asses off all season and deserved this Championship... And, to all of the long-suffering Red Sox fans... This is your year...
And, now when next year rolls around, the rivalry will take on a new meaning...

Allow me to jump in line and offer my congratulations. You guys played lights-out baseball and are thoroughly deserving World Series champions.
Well done.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. Last night was truly remarkable, but it still hasn't sunk in. I'm afraid that if I fall asleep (which I haven't yet), I'll wake up and find out it's only a dream.
I also want to thank Jim and everyone else who runs this site. I came here initially when it looked like the Sox were going to get A-Rod. I wanted to see what Yankees fans were saying about it. I stuck around when the Yankees got him and I was devastated. As the year has moved along, my general dislike for Yankee fans has moved into understanding and now respect. Not to make this into something too big (though this is the way I'm thinking these days), sites like this that encourage intelligent and respectful conversation among fans of different teams show that if people would just talk to each other and try to understand each other, the whole world, not just the sports world, would be a better place. Okay, I'm off my little tangent now.
Oh, a special thanks to Deborah, who really is the voice of reason.
Thanks everyone!
Congratulations, and enjoy it.

congrats to the red sox. they wanted it more this year, and they deserve it. they were fun to watch, except when they were beatin NY's ass, because they were a true team and worked so well together. next season should be just as intense, can't wait for it to come around. as for sox fans, can you blame us now for wanting to win so badly every single year?

Congrats to you Steve and RS Nation. I don't blame you wanting to be around your family. Afterall, who else would you want surrounding you during such a historic event!
I know you said you couldn't celebrate last night, but you have all year to that, so enjoy and take in the fun :)

Hey Jim :)
Wow you really are a devoted and tolerant husband  Who says Yankee fans can't be gracious losers ;)

I tip my cap to the players, and their diehard fans, who waited so long to get there. Special congratulations to the Boston fans who have become valued members of our community here. Enjoy the moment, guys.
I look forward to another great battle for the pennant next season.
Thank you Ring403.

Great post, stsf! I am a NY transplant that has been living in New England for the past 15 years. I can honestly say that Red Sox fans are among the most knowledgable and passionate fans, that I have ever known. It takes a special type of fan to stick with a team, through all of the hard times and continue to show support. I'm truely happy that Red Sox Nation's patience has been rewarded by such an historical accomplishment. The 2004 Boston Red Sox put on an awesome display, that will never be forgotten. Enjoy! It is well deserved.
I'll add my congratulations.
As much as I dislike the Sox, any team that is within 3 outs of elimination and then wins 8 games in a row deserves a WS title.

I didn't even celebrate last night. I don't even think I believed what I was seeing. It's like I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come running out with the Yankees and say, "Red Sox Nation, you've been Punk'd!" It hasn't set in yet. Maybe at the parade Saturday I will really enjoy it.
I smiled, laughed, giggled like a girl, and just sat starring at the TV set, content as I saw that trophy being hoisted by Pedro, Manny, and mostly, Johnny Pesky. It's an indescribable feeling to see them win it. Almost like I was blindsided, even though I "expected" a title. These past three series have felt longer than the 162 pervious games. It's strange. Anaheim seems so long ago, yet the Yankees series seems like yesterday. I'm babbling.
You Yankee fans know what it's like to have a winner, so you know to some degree what it feels like. But nothing describes the feeling after seeing last year's series, and now this one year later. (I'm wayyy to young for the other heartbreaks, so I don't act like I just saw the apocolypse or anything)
Thanks for the congrats guys.

I'm really glad they won, because now the Redsox have realized that the reason why they couldn't win a World Championship the past 86 years was not because of the curse, but because they SUCKED.

Perhaps my most bittersweet moment was when I put a dollar in the juke box to play "Dirty Water," I could only think of how much I would have liked my dad (away on business in Canada) and brother (living in Boston now) to have been there with me. Even when my brother and I fought mercilessly growing up, or when I couldn't get along with my dad as a teenager, we could always unite around the Red Sox. Even now I drive out to the 'burbs to watch nationally televised games with them when I can.
Congratulations to the Red Sox; watching that World Series really convinced me that the best team won it all.
Congratulations Red Sox fans. You guys earned it and were relentless. I stand up and applaud what your team has done in this postseason. As for the Yankees "We'll be back".:bad:
Congratulations to the Sox and their fans. Their season unfolded in storybook fashion, right down to the sun, moon & earth lining up perfectly on the night they won it all. It seemed like destiny.
As much as I hate to admit it, that team sure was fun to watch. Tremendous personality, and great heart.
Well anyway, Sox fans.... enjoy that great winning feeling!

Congrats to the Red Sox and their faithful fans!! Your team got the job done and did so in amazing fashion. Enjoy every minute of all the celebrations. They are very special.
Even though it hurts that our rival won I do think it is nice for all fans to experience the joy of a WS Championship at least once in a lifetime. It was nice to see so many people filled with such joy. :)

That is so sweet. :)
I especially liked looking at the older fans last night who were hugging because they had waitied so many years to see this happen. I hope everyone shared the moment with their families just like you did. That makes it all the more special.
