IMO...Giants face an overrated team with a shoddy defense. However, the O-line must continue to give Warner decent protection. That's easier said than done as Warner tends to hold on to the ball too long. This will decide whether the Football Giants win or lose. This game will be another good test for them on the road. Moreover, unlike the previous two games, the "D" will be facing a real offense.

I wonder if the Packers will blitz over 60% of the time for yet another week. For some reasong, it worked against Carolina, but I can't believe their D coordinator thought it would be a good idea against the Colts.

I thought this was a game thread starting really really early.

Their D coordinator is one of the best in the NFL. Ed Donatell is doing a great job... OH, so sorry, he was fired (scapegoated) by the Pack because his "D" failed to stop Philly on 4th and 26 eventhough he called for a blitz only to be overruled by Sherman. Now Ed is doing a tremendous job as the Falcons "D" coordinator. If the Giants O-Line holds up they'll come away with a big road "W".

The MLB regular season is over. Friday is as good a time as any. :D

If the Packers play with any amount a desperation, the Pack will pick up the W. The Colts' offense was simply too dominant for the Packers defense. The Giants don't have near the offense that Indy does and the Packers should be able to handle the Giants' receivers, especially if Ahmad Carroll plays. McKenzie is doubtful. Hilliard, Toomer and Carter aren't a group that will strike fear into secondaries.

The Packers need this game badly since a meeting with Tennessee on Monday Night hangs overhead. A convincing win with a decent defensive performance would do wonders for the confidence of the team and hopefully turn things around.

Especially since the Patriots have clearly shown that the way to disrupt Manning is to drop 8 men back. It doesn't matter what kind of pass rush you have, Manning doesn't rattle and he knows how to find his open guy. So screw the pass rush, drop everyone back and don't give him any open guys or any open passing lanes and make him see the wrong color jersey everywhere he looks. That's when he gets frustrated and his decision making sometimes breaks down.

Don't confuse being big TD guys with being effective receivers. The Giants passing game is currently 10th in the NFL which is pretty amazing considering the O line is a bunch of nobodies and everyone is still learning a brand new offense. If secondaries aren't afraid then it serves the Giants' purposes nicely.

The Giants have one passing touchdown this season through three games. That's pitiful. I'm not confusing effective receivers with touchdown guys. Two possesion receivers and one fringe guy don't make up a quality receiving corps, the yards and catches mean nothing unless you're scoring touchdowns as well. An average of two offensive TD's per game aren't going to win games consistently, especially against a team like the Packers that have one of the NFL's best offenses.

Possession receivers? Amani Toomer has averaged 75 catches, 1,146 yards, and 6 TDs over the last 5 years. Nobody kicks the Giants as much as I do, but after you get past the very top tier of recievers Toomer can play with anyone.

Can they hold off on this plan for a few weeks or a few months?? :D If the Giants could win and the Yankees could win their seasons I would be a very happy camper. ;)

Have a beer on me George. Here's to a great game. :gulp:

Nice win for the G-Men. Now that Shockey has caught some balls, I wonder if they'll throw to him more. A bonehead move by spiking the ball after his 3rd catch of the day, but pulled in the game winning TD.

Tiki was real good today too.

Another horrid performance on both sides of the ball. At least we'll be able to draft Favre's successor with the incredibly low draft pick the Pack will have in April.:) :(

Go G-men!! WOO HOO!!

Favre took a bad blow to the head. Oy. My heart stops beating until they get back on their feet whenever that happens. I am glad that he will be okay. Feel better soon. :(

Sorry George. Here's something to cheer you up buddy!! ;) (o)(o)

I'm going to hold you to this.

A road win, yeah... but against a Packers team that everyone knows has no defense and a moron for a D coordinator who doesn't know how to use what defense he does have. The one time so far the Giants have faced a real defense (Eagles) they got owned. They'll be facing another one next week--we'll see how they do.

No, I just looked. There hasn't been a scheduling change, they're still playing the Cowboys. :P

Please do. ;)

The list of Wild Card candidates is dwindling. Seattle is running away with the NFC West. Philly is the heavy favorite in the NFC East. Only one team from the NFC North will dance. Altanta is running away with the NFC South. That leaves the following teams for serious consideration: NO, Dallas, Giants. The Saints got blownout by a lowly Arizona team. :uhh: How can a team let an octogenarian rush for 127 yards? I know the Saints rushing "D" is bad, but that was ridiculous.

Dallas has a 40 year old starting QB and no running game. Furthermore, they have a tough schedule. IMO, the 'Boys season is on the line this Sunday.

Date Opponent Time/Result
Sep 12 @Minnesota Lost 17-35
Sep 19 Cleveland Won 19-12
Sep 27 @Washington Won 21-18
Week 4 BYE
Oct 10 N.Y. Giants 1:00pm
Oct 17 Pittsburgh 4:15pm
Oct 24 @Green Bay 4:15pm
Oct 31 Detroit 1:00pm
Nov 7 @Cincinnati 1:00pm
Nov 15 Philadelphia 9:00pm
Nov 21 @Baltimore 1:00pm
Nov 25 Chicago 4:35pm
Dec 6 @Seattle 9:00pm
Dec 12 New Orleans 1:00pm
Dec 19 @Philadelphia 1:00pm
Dec 26 Washington 4:15pm
Jan 2 @N.Y. Giants 8:30pm

If the Rams commit to the running game, like they did against SF, they could be in the Wild Card picture.

The Giants have playmakers on offense and their front 7 has played very well. Here's the Giants schedule...

Date Opponent Time/Result
Sep 12 @Philadelphia Lost 17-31
Sep 19 Washington Won 20-14
Sep 26 Cleveland Won 27-10
Oct 3 @Green Bay Won 14-7
Oct 10 @Dallas 1:00pm
Week 6 BYE
Oct 24 Detroit 1:00pm
Oct 31 @Minnesota 1:00pm
Nov 7 Chicago 4:05pm
Nov 14 @Arizona 4:15pm
Nov 21 Atlanta 4:15pm
Nov 28 Philadelphia 1:00pm
Dec 5 @Washington 4:15pm
Dec 12 @Baltimore 1:00pm
Dec 18 Pittsburgh 1:30pm
Dec 26 @Cincinnati 1:00pm
Jan 2 Dallas 8:30pm

9-7 should be good enough for a WC spot. The NYG should be at least 10-6.

Octogenarian? If the Formerly Glorious Dallas #22 rushes for 1000 this year, I can say I called it. As a vote of confidence, I even picked him up to be on my fantasy team as soon as whoever it was who drafted him, dropped him.

As for the Cowboys' schedule, yes, I know exactly who they're playing. I'll be at the Packers game on the 24th. The only teams on there who could be pretty tough are the Eagles, Seahawks, and... Eagles. Chicago no longer scares me since Grossman went down. And, even Parcells himself says it, Vinny's age doesn't matter with the quality of pass-blocking done by our o-line. He's been making all the throws, and our wide receivers are 3 playmakers (the "best" group Vinny's ever played with, by his own account). Just gotta wait and see how big a loss Dan Campbell will end up being. As for the running game, if Parcells ever commits more fully to ReShard Lee, watch out.

However, I agree that it's not completely unfeasible for the Giants to do pretty well this year. They'll fold against the good defenses, but then again, there aren't that many legitimately good defenses out there, much less on teams that the Giants actually have to play this year.

There's still 13 weeks left in this season. Remember the Vikings' awesome start last year and the humiliating collapse that followed. Some team follows that pattern almost every year.

Nat, good post, but you omitted the following games from the "tough" category:

Oct 17 Pittsburgh 4:15pm (that offense might be too hot to handle)
Nov 21 @Baltimore 1:00pm (Dallas will lose this game)
Dec 12 New Orleans 1:00pm (NO is talented, but Dallas can beat them)

I hope Dallas gets in. I want Parcells in the playoffs but not at the expense of the Giants. :)
