View Full Version : Why sabermetrics?

I'm looking for an article that states the reason to use sabermetrics and presents an argument for sabermetrics over the "old school" approach to baseball. It has to be long enough that I can summarize and analyze as well.

So far I've found this...

...and it looks promising thus far, but I'm interested in other recommendations as well.

If you subscribe to BP online, is there any need to buy the BP Book?

Thanks. :) It was definitely a good read, but I guess I'm looking for an article where the writer has a strong opinion about it - not so much of a "just presenting the facts" type article, but more of an opinion piece.

RIyankee the book has some things like the team chapters, BP's Top 50 prospects (with brief explanations), etc. that I think are either not available online or just somewhat hard to find. That being said, however, if I were to choose between the two, I'd go with the online one easily.

Not that I can see. Although, while I admit I haven't looked for it online, I'm not sure that the player commentary is there that appears in the book. But as far as access to stats and of course the current articles they constantly run (which you obviously can't get in a printed book), there's no comparison. Spend your money on the online version.
