HOUSTON -- The Red Sox say it is now a dead issue, but after fining him three times for noncompliance, Major League Baseball was prepared to suspend shortstop Nomar Garciaparra last week if the MLB logo on the back of his helmet was not visible.

I thought he wasn't going to show the RED SOX logo, considering he seems to be traded every week or so.

This is such a dumb rule.. besides why wouldnt he just show it?!?! is he trying to piss someone off

The source said that MLB no longer will tolerate the batting helmets of Sox players, including those belonging to Manny Ramirez and Trot Nixon, which are smeared with dirt and pine tar, obscuring the "B" logo on the front of the helmets.

"I think you'll see a difference when the second half starts," the source said. "You have to be able to see the team's logo."

I wonder if they are going after the Sox because they are unhappy with Damon's appearance.

This is stupid. If you can't tell that Manny and Trot are Red Sox cause the B is smudged on their helmet, then you are blind. There are more problems in baseball other than batting helmets smeared with pinetar, such as a steroid problem, lame duck commishoner etc.

Was it intentional? Why would Nomar have a beef with MLB?

They were speculating that he started hitting well again when it was off and it was a superstition thing.

Good lord. That CAN'T be true!?!? If that's true the Sox should hire a team psychologist: Maybe he can get a group rate with Lowe.

Hey----baseball is riddled with superstitions...Including the fans but especially the players...If all the little superstitious things add up to needing a shrink then I need to be in therapy for eternity! :)
