View Full Version : Look at Interleague play 2004

I like Interleague play. It is a great chance for teams to play different teams.

The Yankees face the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have almost no pitching (Joe Kennedy has the lowest starter ERA on the club with 3.63). According to theory, the Rockies play well at Coors Field, but outside of Coors Field, they don't. Todd Helton, Royce Clayton, Jeromy Burnitz, and Vinny Castilla are their bats. I say the Yankees 2-1 or 3-0 sweep.

The San Diego Padres are one of the up-and-coming teams in baseball led by Sean Burroughs. The Yankees might get a chance to face David Wells.

The matchups that caught my eye are against the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, Dodger Stadium and at Bank One Ballpark (The BOB) in Phoenix against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Yankees-L.A. Dodgers series is a matchup between two of the original three-way NY rivalry where the Dodgers-Yankees faced off 7 times in the Subway Series in the 1940s-1950s with the Yankees won 6 of the 7 series and continued to L.A. where the L.A. Dodgers and NY Yankees both won 2 World Series between each other.

The series in the Desert after that. Back to the scene of the crime of 2001. How will every Yankee fan feel if the Yankees go into AZ and win a series or even better sweep the D-Backs in the desert? It may not be the World Series, but revenge during an exhibition is even more sweeter.

So, this years AL East v. NL West part of the schedule can be interesting for the Yanks. If they travel to the West Coast and win 2 series there, they survived that swing.

There's nothing that can happen in this series that would make me feel any better about what took place in 2001.

I will be interested to see how they play the Padres, just because the Padres are a young team on the rise, and I can't think of a team in the AL that plays exactly like them. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees handle a team like that, because I don't think they've had to so far this season.

Exactly. I hope the Yanks don't see Johnson in that series.

Is this a joke. "but revenge during an exhibition is even more sweeter" I can't imagine you or anyong actually believes that.

David Wells was taken off the DL and will start Tuesday...does that mean with a travel day he may end up starting at the Stadium this coming weekend?

Looks to me like he would start on Sunday at the stadium, but not positive.

Darn, the Forum Party is on Saturday, and that's when I'm going. I'd have liked to have seen Boomer in the Stadium again. (No, I wouldn't applaud if he shut out the Yanks.)

It seems weird that after two weeks of interleague play, we still have those two series with the Mets and they're split up with AL series ... with Baltimore before the YS series and with the Red Sox before the Shea Stadium series.

It'll be interesting to see Fatman Wells pitching agains the Yanks again.... hopefully he beats Boston as he did in the postseason last year...

Padres might be a tough team to play given they do have great hitters (Giles, Nevin, others) and are young and upcoming but their pitching is suspect... 2/3 is reasonable though I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a series win (2 out of 3) if we're caught off guard

The Dodger vs. Yankees series will be awesome

I'm not certain on the schedule of facing Arizona if we're going to face Johnson or not.... I think we might for one game though which will be ouch possibly

randy johnson is on schedule to pitch on tues and then on sunday meaning he would miss the yankee series. assuming (and hoping) there arent any rainouts for arizona this week we will miss facing randy johnson.

hopefully we miss Johnson for sure

Sure we have a shot at lighting him up at times but hey he might turn his game on and decide to pitch a no-no or perfect game against us for some reason =P

Wells is scheduled to pitch this Sunday at the stadium. This is good news for us, we all know how much Boomer loves 1:05 starts!!!

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/story/200827p-173359c.html

"ALL'S WELLS: David Wells came off the disabled list over the weekend and is slated to start for the Padres tonight at his least-favorite stadium - Fenway Park - against Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox.

That puts Wells in line to start Sunday against the Yankees at the Stadium , a matchup dripping with intrigue, considering Wells' flair for the dramatic and Yankee fans' love affair with him."

I would have liked to have seen Johnson. (there is something to be said for fcing a lesser pitcher, though) It would be interesting, no question about that.

The novelty of seeing Johnson wore off for me since the 2001 WS and the subsequent interleague matchups.... I wish we could have Marcus Thames back for a game to face Johnson though. :)
