View Full Version : Baseball Prospectus Basics
I thought this would be an appropriate first thread. Basically, this is a link to BP's "Basics" archives. The Basics cover sabermetrics in general. Since I think this forum is intended in part for people to learn about sabermetrics, this link can provide a good introduction. There's good explanations of support-neutral stats, EqA, measuring pitcher usage, etc.

does BP use sabermetrics, or did they come up with their own kind/style of analysis based on the classic Bill James sabermetrics?

Sabermetrics is the scientific analysis of baseball.
So the answer to your questions are "yes".

sabermetrics is just a term, it's not any defined set of statistics. BP uses both sabermetrics established by Bill James (win shares, runs created, etc), and some of their own (like VORP - value over replacement).
They also use a bunch of metrics for their projection system, PECOTA.
you can find out about all of those on the Basics page.
