I don't understand the big deal about college football and bowl games.
You really only root for one team.
The players aren't as good as the pros.
The BCS sucks, no playoff system.
Loads of stupid Bowls. The only really good Bowls are the championship bowl, and I just hate the stupid bowls due to corporate sellouts.
NO SUPER BOWL!!!
So whats the the big deal?

Well...I don't know about other people, but I don't really just root for one team. I root for my Wolverines, then I also root for whoever is playing against MSU, Notre Dame, and OSU (or if they're playing against each other, root for the one with the less to lose). That and maybe because I watch my guys live for half the games of the season and don't really give a hoot about pro until the playoffs and even then, most of the time I'm just watching final scores, college football just draws in my attention more than pro probably ever will.
The bowl games are about school politics and money... the only use for bowl games for me is to check out NFL prospects...:D

i would watch every game if it was an 8 team tournament. I know someone who works for espn who us trying to approve a deal to have an 8 team tournament. If that happened then it would be interesting because if you lose one game your'e eliminated

I cannot get into college football and I will be glad when the bowls stop clogging up the TV.

Ditto.
And thanks to the fact that the Ivies aren't allowed to compete in the Bowls, whatever little interest I might've had in college football pretty much ends with the season on Thanksgiving. And I really don't get how the entire Bowl system works, anyway, on top of everything.
March Madness, on the other hand, is another story -- a tournament you can actually follow and can understand why certain teams get to play in the championship games.

Exactly, because its a playoff system, that eventually leads down to a championship. This year, two college football teams will share the national championship. That's BCS bull****!

A playoff system for college football would ruin the integrity of the "regular season". The great thing about college football is that there has never been any clinching a playoff berth with a month left in the season. Every single game matters. However, I do think the BCS sucks, especially the rule about no more than 2 teams per conference can earn BCS berths. The Longhorns were royally screwed there, but then again, maybe they should just figure out a way to beat the Sooners (gosh darn it... Sooners suck!). But even in the pre-BCS days there were shared national championships... I know Michigan shared it in '97.
I think it's the proliferation of the dumb corporate-sponsored bowl games that allow a crappy 6-loss UCLA team make it in for the sake of money that's the problem. There's no reason for there to be like 28 bowl games, when EVERYONE knows only 10 AT MOST have the tradition behind them that make them really matter.
but yeah, unless you have a college team to root for, all the bowl games clogging up the tv schedule are a huge annoyance. i remember when i felt the same way, and i still do when it comes to dumb games like the gaylord hotels music city bowl and continental tire bowl. but getting a chance to root for my Longhorns at the Holiday Bowl the other day side by side with my Texas-born dad and others who are actually from the state was an awesome experience, even though they lost. which shouldn't have happened, but that's worth a whole other post.

But that gets to my point of why should a loss in November be more damaging than one in October?

I watch most of the games that has a Big 12 team. Obviously a playoff system would be the best, but it won't happen next year and probably not until the BCS contract runs out. And even then, I'm not sure it will happen.

Rutgers eh? Lucky you. At least you have a real football team. I go to Princeton. If I ever paint my face orange though, it's for the Longhorns. I've been wanting to go over to Rutgers for awhile now and watch them play some real football against real teams. Too bad Miami's not one of them anymore.

Count your blessings. At least your team can win a league championship against these non-real opponents every now and then (even if not this season). Columbia is so pathetic that there are students there now whose parents weren't born the last time they won the Ivies. Their greatest game in the past 50 years was the one that broke a history-making 44-game losing streak in the 1980's.
Ivy football sux. The least they could do is allow the league champion to compete for an at-large berth in one of the minor bowls. Stupid academic regulations -- schools like Stanford seem to get along fine, after all.

I enjoy most bowl games. I really enjoyed the Rose Bowl this season. :D

It's all about money. Bowl games are more appealing to sponsors than playoff round games. Look at the "true" bowl names...
Nokia Sugar Bowl
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Mazda Tangerine Bowl
FedEx Orange Bowl
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Rose Bowl Preseneted by CITI, etc...
These names for traditional bowl games sound more glamourous than the "1st round someting-or-other game presented by So-and-So". Moreover, some of the newer bowls don't waste any time on promoting sponsership as these games take the name dircetly by the sponsor.
The old Copper Bowl was renamed Insight Bowl. The Citrus bowl is now the Capital One Bowl - What's in your wallet? Then there's the GMAC Bowl.
Sportwriters have their agendas as they hate the BCS and want to see a playoff. So, they will exaggerate the failures/mistakes of the current BCS system. The fact is that all schools agreed to this system and LSU won fair and square. If they want to change the system all they have to do is make being a conference champion required in order to play in the BCS champoinship game. IMO I would leave it as is. It's as good as it's ever going to be.

Princeton cares, and tries so hard with the practicing and quasi-recruiting (technically not allowed, but standards can be lowered a little to let athletes in), and THEY STILL SUCK. I'll never care about Princeton football. I'll never go to a game. I'm more likely to head over to Rutgers to watch them play real teams. I'd rather watch the 'Horns or 'Canes on TV.

I love Ivy league football. Just becuse they have real student athletes that have majors other than sociology, doesn't mean that it's not fun to watch. In fact, Ivy games can be more intense and competitive than many Div I-A games. Harvard/Yale is always a treat and being from RI, I'm a Brown fan.
The Bowl Games are simply not fun anymore. They were so much better pre-BCS. The in-season races for Big 10 and Pac 10 to see who would play the Rose Bowl. That was fun.
All the games that mattered on New Year's Day. Personally I only recognize a few bowls. I don't watch the others.
