The Royals moved Jeremy Giambi to Oakland (where he joins his brother Jason)for Brett Laxton, a decent pitching prospect.
Laxton had been one of the names floated in the Ramiro Mendoza to Oakland rumors a couple of weeks ago.
I think this is a good move for both teams, especially KC. They have a wealth of OF/DH types, and need more young pitching. Combine Laxton with Jose Rosado, Blake Stein, Jeff Suppan, and Jay Witasick and you've got at least a credible rotation.
That combined with the bats they've got (OF Carlos Beltran, 2B Carlos Febles, OF Johnny Damon, OF Dee Brown, 3B Joe Randa, 1B Mike Sweeney, OF Jermaine Dye, & C Sal Fasano) presents a decent ballclub. They won't catch Cleveland, but they may finish .500, and should be fun to watch.
Oakland can afford to lose Laxton, and gets another good bat.
