The Washington Redskins have hired Marty Schottenheimer as their head coach.
The team planned to announce the hiring this afternoon and officially introduce Schottenheimer at a news conference Thursday, sources said.
Schottenheimer, 57, coached the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs for 15 seasons before resigning as the Chiefs coach in January 1999. He is the 11th-winningest coach in NFL history with a 145-85-1 record and led those two clubs to 11 playoff appearances. He had been working as a studio analyst for ESPN.
Schottenheimer reportedly agreed to a four-year $10 million deal, according to sources.
