Thanks, Biggie.

I added the current record to the group too, just to see how things could play out, and how the team has spent it's points so far this season.

No need to do that every day, the daily numbers are quite enough! I just wanted to see it up there, and how it looked.:) Thanks a bunch!

Bozidar
04-21-03, 07:48 AM
Both 0-3 teams are up against a 2-1 team, and both 3-0 teams are up against 1-2 teams. Not that that means much, at this point in the season, but as Sax pointed out in his weekly newsletter, it has some symetery to it.

There are three 2-1 vs 1-2 matchups, 1 of the 1-2 vs 1-2, and also just a single 2-1 vs 2-1 game.

Funny thing, Boz...Now that we're in Week 4, I was thinking of adding record to the scoreboard (but was too bleary-eyed at 5:30am to look at any more numbers) though I'd put it after the team name such as:

Mattingly's Hitmen (1-2) 44.67 (824.00)
Junior's Bashers (3-0) 53.00 (724.67)

But thanks for adding the info to my post!

(BTW...do you think I look like this)?:

Way to early for predictions of doom, my friend. I still remember you skunking me in Week 1 based on a 4-0 pitching day. &po'd&

Yeah, but I don't have anyone pitching twice this week. All 5 of my starters are 1-go guys. My offense isn't exactly steam-rolling, and my bullpen isn't even working.

I just got a feeling, that's all. It's not like my predicting it has anything to do with the outcome :) It's just my best guess..

My Linguists, unfortunately I believe, shot our collective wad last night. Kevin Brown was supposed to pitch tonight but we are going to start him tomorrow night. We believe he has a much better chance to suck less tomorrow than tonight. We are however hoping for a couple "near saves" tonight. We look forward to only losing about -9 points per relief appearance versus our "normal" -13 or -14.

I give new meaning to futility...my offense has produced 3 singles and 1 walk. Meanwhile, both the Mets and Astros are giving me more reasons to hate them. Oswalt's start produced the grand total of 1 point...giving me a grand total of 5 big whopping points for Wednesday...

The GM of the struggling Michigan Wolverines gives the following statement: "If any of the players on this team or on the major league team Houston Astros A.) receives a pipe bomb, B.) is found in a pot of boiling oil, or C.) lying in a ditch on the side of a road, this GM is NOT responsible. When your team plays like a mix of the Detroit Tigers and the New York Mets and has the luck of a crash dummy, you can't really control what happens off the field...just like you can't control if suddenly a nuclear bomb annihilates the whole team."

Complete honesty here - with my roster, I thought .500 was completely realistic, and above that eminently acheivable. But Berkman's barely played, Halladay hasn't won one yet, and Escobar's sucked massively. Not getting bitter, but perhaps a little resigned to my fate.

Not for long. The 4 Horseman have been kicking my ass all week. Looks like I'll be .500 by this weekend. Unacceptable!! Heads will roll! I'm firing my manager and hiring Dallas Green! Sending Colon to Tampa! Nick Johnson is going to get fined for sitting on the bench even though i told him to do so. He should have known better.

just how lowe will you go to win my title huh boz... http://e4u.consoleradar.com/happy/137.gif

somethin jus' ain't right here... i just spent the last 20 minutes dissing this sux fan in my cbs league and here you are the leader of the yankees diehards lamenting the sux losses...

i'm tellin... i'm tellin jim you're a red sox spy... :smokin:

p.s. here's my response to this idiot from beantown who posted the typical Yankees Sucks post whining about our payroll and the fact that ken rosenthal thinks we ain't all that...

Definition of Sucks...

...85 years and counting of misery... nice job by mr lowe today... 2 ininings, 63 pitches SIX HITS, SEVEN EARNED RUNS and THREE WALKS...

don't worry christopher, that dan duquette type stud, robert person should be back soon to save your staff era which was 5.22 before today's BLOW OUT to the mighty rangers... wow 5.22 team era... that was worse than the tigers era before todays BLOW OUT to the mighty rangers...

hey but you guys got mendoza, you know the kid w/ a few rings on his fingers to solidify your pen and hopefully teach ya a thing or two about winning... what's that, his era is 11.81 and the pen's ear os 5.64... sweet... good job today ramiro, 1.2 inning 3 hits 2 earned runs.. way to pad that era... i can hear the sux faithful begging lil theo to bring back el guapo now... keep it up doza and i'm sure steinny will send a nice fat bonus check for ya next christmas...

and what's this??? shnozmar had an 0-fer... no way... what's that, his batting average fell to .269... ahh don't worry, he'll be ok, prolly too much hamm sandwhiches fer lunch...

ahh yes, another year of baseball, another year of sox fans and the ny envy whining till the early days of august when they fade away silently, humbly, tails between their legs into the night w/ the sudden realization that this will once again be a year w/ no world series... maybe you guys should shrink wrap that 1918 banner and donate it to the smithsonian or something, before it disintegrates and no one is alive to prove youz ever won squat...

Bozidar

LMAO!!

You're right, it's strange that i'm lamenting Sux losses.. but i am. They've got Burkett and Pedro -- let those two guys lose!

The yanks can easily out-pace the Sux if they win 3 of every 5. That's why i can lament a loss for my fantasy team, while still remaining true to muh boys. I know that Sux wins mean NOTHING in the grand scheme of things.. so why shouldn't they help my ass out!?!?

Btw.. the sox team ERA has been among the league leaders for like 3 years in a row.. havin' 4 of their arms ain't just an accident.. it's wishful thinking! Worst case scenario, i jinx them, and they suck so much balls all year that the sox fans around me give up baseball altogether!

As for your response to the sox fans.. making a digital image would be a very good idea! :) Even things in shrink wrap can decay, over decades, it's best to plan for the future :D :)

One man's misery is another man's pleasure. Since I have ARod, Raffy, Gonzo, and EverRAT on my team, Mr Lowe and Co allowed me a cool 45 points this afternoon. Throw in another 25 or so from Wolf's win and then add in whatever the rest of my guys do in tonight's games and I might actually build up enough of a lead that I can get a win this week. Unless my pen is called in to hold a lead, then all bet's are off.

No...this is a running scoreboard, updated daily, through yesterday. Your 79.00 points was the highest score of the day.

OHHH!! I thought that number to the left of the total was your daily total. And that each day you got a win or a loss. And then whoever took the series won that week. I see how it works now.

:)

The total in parenthesis is your total before this week's games. (So if anyone wanted to check my data entry, they just need to add the 2 columns and compare it to the Yahoo page).

So for example:

Team Name, (Record entering this week) Total Score for Week (Previous Total Score)
The Larrupin' Lous, (2-1) 147.67 (781.00)

This was the format Coney36 was using when she asked me to take over the scoreboard duties. I've been thinking of playing around with the format a bit, but won't debut any changes until a Sunday (not necessarily THIS Sunday, but A Sunday) when the new games start...

Actually, I lobbied for that to be the format for the postseason (fantasy postseason, that is) - thought it would add a little tension and variety. Owners weren't too keen. Maybe next year?

I wouldn't mind. I didn't have any input when you were all setting this up because I had no idea what was going on. I have a daily win/loss/tie setup in my other league and it works well. We also have to keep track of our team every day because we can switch the lineups daily. You have to put alot more work into the team that way, and the duration of the season will take affect. If you forget to change your lineup because half of them have the day off, then you are screwed. Is that something you'd consider for next year as well? or does everyone like the weekly rosters? I don't mind either way.

I like daily rosters more too, I don't see why they're weekly. All of the other leagues I am in are daily and you need to use strategy based on who they're playing ect, it makes it a lot more interesting day by day.

One strategy you can have.... we have to meet a minimum of 25 innings pitched per week, otherwise all pitching stats are invalid and your opponent wins all 10 categories. Well, once you reach the minimum 25, you can bench your pitchers if you're happy with your ERA, WHIP, etc. If you're up in wins by 4, chances are you probably got that category locked up. So why risk giving up more hits, losing or balooning your ERA if you know one of your pitchers is going to face the Yanks on Saturday.

Personally, I think it's a little unfair on those of us who don't have reliable Internet access. Some of us don't have access at work; some are reliant on others for it. Some have PCs that break down. ;) For a couple of weeks, I think it would work - but for people who share a PC, or are busy a few days a week, I think the advantage to the rest of the owners might be too much.

Just my opinion, of course. I'd certainly be open to discussion on the subject.

I personally think it adds a lot more strategy to set weekly lineups. You have to actually look ahead and sometimes even gamble on things like weather. Not to mention pitching matchups, ballparks, day games following night games.....

One of the things I DON'T like is the trading rules. I currently have two trades that, as far as I know, have been approved by the league but they don't show up for next week's roster until the last minute. I have to make some adjustments....I'd like to be able to do that in a timelier manner. It looks like there is a two day period for other owners to vote but apparently, you can't make additional roster moves until Saturday.

Is there any way of correcting this?

Saxmania
04-25-03, 04:54 PM
You should be able to make other roster moves - but if you move any players in the pending trades, the trade will fail. Edit Lineup should still work. Sorry, but we did agree the 2-day waiting period, and I can't see any way around that without foregoing the league's right to object to unbalanced trades.

Both of your trades should go through by tomorrow, by the way.

Saxmania

Even with daily lineups, you can set them for an entire week in advance. I usually do that once a week, moving players on each day, and then if I hear of an injury or rain out I can change them again. The only thing I don't like about the weekly roster setting is if someone gets injured on Monday, you lose points at that position all week before you can put them on the DL.

Thanks Sax. I know I brought this concern to you in an email. I absolutely agree with the two day waiting period, but it would be nice to be able to make roster moves immediately following trade approvals. I believe that this might NOT be possible considering Yahoo. I ain't bitching about it as far as the League is run, just as the Host is running it. This isn't a criticism of you.
The biggest problem is concerning "unbalanced" trades where an owner may have to waive or pick up a player. If a trade is agreed to on a Monday is one thing. If it's agreed to on a Thursday, it's a whole different thing.
My trades, lame as they were, were approved early in the week yet I can't make adjustments until, I GUESS, Saturday at some point for the following week.
Sorry if I am sounding like my buddy Brad.

I think both trades will process overnight, so yeah, I think tomorrow is a good bet for editing the lineup. It's a shame that Yahoo won't let you kepp an invalid roster until then, so's you can stockpile players until tomorrow, but c'est la vie.

If you fast forward to Sunday, you can make roster moves at anytime. But they wont take effect until Sunday.

For example, yesterday I dropped Luis Vizcaino and added DJ Carrasco. I clicked forward to Sunday, and moved Carrasco from "Bench" to "RP".

I haven't been able to do anything like that. I've been going to Sunday but it still has my "old" roster. Adding & dropping players is a whole different animal than trading.
I'm going to need to fill in some gaps for next week's games. If I simply made roster moves, it would be no problem. However, TRADES present a whole other problem. Unbalanced trades are a bigger bitch than the girl I dated in High School. :)

"Stockpiling?" No, trying to fill each position. I don't want an "invalid roster." I just want to be able to move players as needed.

I sincerely hope there was some misunderstanding in this thread, and specifically this quote, on my part.

Unreal.

They're both good.

Daily lets you play with your lineup depending on a variety of conditions: tough pitcher, favorable hitting parks, rain, injury, DNP, and so forth.

Weekly means you have to do all that thinking beforehand. While it's true that rain and injuries have an impact, it pretty much evens out over the course of the season.

I like both formats, but prefer the weekly transaction for the nyyfans league because it helps me keep my various rosters straight. Also, I can set my roster and then not have any decisions to make for a few days, a nice thing.

Agreed! It hasn't though.

I go to Sunday. I go to "Edit Lineup" which takes me to the next week, and I still have my pre-trade roster.

I'm NOT trying to pull some shenigans. I was just asking a question. I think it's probably an unfortunate glitch in the system.

Oh well.....I have some beer and I'm enjoying some Yankee Baseball! :)

Well, i think i might cautiously be able to declare victory. I came into the night down ten points. Here's how it played out:
Mattingly's Hitmen:
Johnson : 2 points (2/4)
Dunn: 12 (1/2, 2-run HR (7), 3 BB (3), 2 other runs (2))
Young: 0 (0/3)
Randa: 0 (didn't play)
Guzman: 1 (0/3 BB)
Sammy: 3 points (1/4 rbi, run)
Manny: 3 (1/4 2b, rbi)
Damon: 1 (1/4)
Hunter: 1 (0/3 BB)
Estes: -14 (2 ip (4), 12 hits (-6), 7ER (-7), 1BB (-.5), 1K (+.5), Loss (-5)
MacDougal: 6 (1ip, save)
Foulke: 6 (1ip, save, 1h, 1k)

Ok, so that's 2 + 12 + 1 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 14 + 6 + 6
So 21 points for him, and a 10 point lead.. i need 31

Junior's Bashers:
Santiago: 2 (HBP, run)
Hatteberg: 3 (2h, run, bb, gidp)
Boone: 3 (2/4 run)
Guillen: 3 (1/2 run, bb)
Koskie: 6 (1/4 HR)
Green: 8 (1/3 HR, HBP, and 1 more run)
Scheff : 0
Nady: 0
Martinez: 3 (2/3 bb)
Shields: 19.6 (5.1 IP (10.6), 5H + 5K (0), 1ER (-1), Win)
2 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 6 + 8 + 3 + 19.6 = 47.6

Now... my math might be off a bit, i might have missed a few things.. but i think I actually pulled that one off :) Down all week except right in the begining. That was a good match :) I sure as hell hope i really did win, so i don't have egg all over my face!!
