Happy Opening Day everyone, now straight to the news:

-The Dawgs from Easton made a few moves yesterday and early today. First, they cut Baltimore SP Jason Johnson and signed Oakland SP John Halama. Second, at 5:02 AM today, Jason Marquis became a Dawg, he was inked to a one year deal. Carl Pavano was released to Waivers.

-Fishing With Mendoza also made a minor roster move, cutting RP Franklyn German. They signed RP Trey Hodges to a one year deal, terms undisclosed. They also cut Toronto 2B Orlando Hudson. To take his place, they signed Atlanta SP Horacio Ramirez to a one year contract worth the league minimum. Ramirez is expected to be the #5 starter for the Mendozas until Mike Hampton returns from his injury.

-The Evil Empire made a move that seriously upgraded their bullpen today, cutting RP Mike Timlin to pick up Yankees RP Juan Acevedo, who is expected to close for the MLB Yankees until Mariano Rivera returns. He will fit in at the main RH set up man for Empire closer Eddie Guardado.

-The Dawgs from Easton have made another move, dropping P Terry Adams for RP Francisco Cordero. They signed him to a 1 year deal worth $600,000.

- Directly after this one, the Dawgs made two more moves. They signed Chicago White Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. to a one year deal, cutting Ben Davis in the process. They also released Travis Hafner to waivers, picking up his fellow Indian Karim Garcia.

That's all so far, more news as it becomes available.

Acevedo was not available earlier. Since he was not guaranteed a roster spot (by Yahoo standards) until Mo went on the DL, he was not listed among the "available players" until Wednesday or Thursday, and then as a "waiver" player, not a "free agent", so he had to clear waivers. EE was #1 in the waiver list, so they got him when they put in a claim. Had EE not put in a claim, I'm sure someone else had a claim on him and would have gotten him.
