A trade which sent Randy Johnson and Byung-Hyun Kim from the Larrupin Lous to the Senators in exchange for Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz was completed just a moment ago.
The trade, agreed to in principal by managers terry14420 and Big_E, will be official when the pitchers take their physicals this coming Sunday. Randy Johnson has already agreed to waive his partial no-trade clause, which had the Senators listed, in exchange for a 1 million dollar buy-out of the terms. The Senators now have Ugi Urbina, Matt Anderson, and perhaps Kim as their three relievers, although Kim is projected to start this year for the Arizona Diamondbacks. This also opens up the opportunity for the Senators to try to deal a pitcher or two to upgrade their infield.
"While we are a bit concerned about Pedro's fragile arm as well as his attitude, we believe that he will stay healthy this year and that being out of the Senator's clubhouse might just help him. We had a chance to get Pedro and the man who we believe is the best closer in the game, John Smoltz and we weren't going to let it pass us by." pretendsaid Lou GM Big_E.
An Unnamed Dimagg Division GM was quoted as saying, "Man, there's no way i give up both Pedro and Johnny. Those two guys can anchor your whole staff for a year, if their health stays up. Randy is a prime stud, and can help a lot too, but you're giving up 20 wins, and 55 saves for 24 wins and who knows what from Kim? Kim had 3 losses last year, which are now a penalty. As a starter, i'd expect that to go up some."
ADVANTAGE OF TRADE: LARRUPIN LOUS (slight)
Pedro, if he stays healthy, which we must assume, is not THAT much of a downgrade of Johnson. While Johnson is league's better than anyone else, Pedro might well be number two in the league when he's healthy. It is unknown how Kim will react to starting, but Smoltz is already a proven bullpen commodity. The trade very well could end up benefiting the Senators, but assuming that everyone stays healthy and performs up to their standards, the Lous got the better half of the deal, but not by much at all BECAUSE of Pedro's injury risk. If both Pedro and RJ stay healthy, the Lous have the clear advantage.
