A lot of news to get to today, as this morning at 4:47 AM was the first legal time for teams to acquire players off of waivers. Almost every team did just that, most of them improving themselves:
-David Bell, Fred McGriff, Kerry Wood, Jeff Bagwell, and Miguel Batista all passed physicals today, completing a 6 player deal sending the latter two along with Phil Nevin from Italian Ice to the Senators for Bell, McGriff, and Wood. The trade, which many believe favors Italian Ice, was agreed to in principal last week. The Senators will improve slightly at first but take devastating hits at both 3B and in the SP category.
-Saxmania’s Swingers cut Houston’s Shane Reynolds and claimed Twins starter Kenny Rogers off of waivers. His 6.5 million dollar salary cuts a bit of payroll for the Swingers. Nice pickup for the Swingers.
-GM Bozidar was very busy with his Junior’s Bashers squad. First, the Bashers dropped Cardinal’s first baseman Tino Martinez to pick up Marlins reliever Vladimir Nunez, who will replace No One. The Bashers also cut light hitting shortstop Rey Ordonez and signed Marlins speedster shortstop Andy Fox to a one year 1.4 million dollar deal. In addition, the Bashers also signed RP Tim Worrell to a one year deal, terms were undisclosed.
-The New York Squeaks made one move, signing brand new Pittsburgh Pirates OF Kenny Lofton to a one year deal worth almost 4 million dollars. They cut Montreal 3B Fernando Tatis to make room for Lofton. The Squeaks three bench players are now all OFers.
-The defending NYYfans.com league Champion Lordz of Flatbush let go of P Denny Neagle to pick up Oakland OF Terrance Long. They also cut speedy Oakland CF Chris Singleton and signed Tigers 1B/DH Dmitri Young to a one year deal worth 6 million dollars.
-The Senators, after completing the trade which brought injured 3B Phil Nevin to the team (trade discussed earlier), immediately cut Nevin and signed New York Mets 3B Ty Wigginton to a cheap one year deal.
