Okay Jim, this forum has one glitch, at least for me, which is detracting from my convenience. Which is that, if I am typing something into the posting form, and accidentally hit the back button or go to a new web page via, say, an e-mail URL, when I go back to the form using the back or forward buttons, depending on the circumstance, my whole message is gone. This doesn't happen that often, but it is annoying when it does. Other forums I've posted on retain the text in the message field even if I accidentally leave the input page, I can come back to it using the back or forward buttons.

BTW, I used to have this problem with eBay forms too, until I changed my browser settings so pages only refresh when I close the window then start the browser up again. But the problem with this site continues...can it be fixed?

I am aware of this problem. I did away with the code that reloaded the page, but within 24 hours this was posted:

It's a never ending battle with browsers, ISP's and everything else that tries to make the internet more "efficient" by stripping away it's core values.

*steps off soapbox*

I happen to agree with you, but will do whatever the general consensus prefers.

Hey Jim, thanks for the quick reply! Ah, it's all about customer service... ;) Well, I guess the board NOT refreshing at all would annoy more people more times than the board refreshing when you don't want it to. I'll try to make a draft in Notepad on my comp of any post that I know will be very long or very important.

I'll tell you what I do, is hit the "Preview" button, even if I don't actually proofread the post or anythin. Your browser will store all the info that you submit in a form, so by going into preview, you are essentially storing your post in your computer's memory.

Try replying to this post, but hit the preview button. When you're on the preview screen, hit the "Refresh" button on your browser. It will ask you if you want to re-submit the form values that you had just done.

Assume that you submit a post without previewing it, but it doesn't have a title. You'll get an error message and be asked to enter a title. By pressing the "Back" button, your post would have disappeared.

Now assume that you hit the "Preview" button and then submit it, if you are backing into the preview screen, you can refresh it and it will restore your post.

That way you will never lose your post, because you have stored one version of it in your browser.

Another thing I do before submitting a long post is right clicking in the messagebox, selecting "Select All", right clicking again and selecting "Copy" - so that way if I get an error message and have to return to the message posting screen, I can just hit "Paste", and the post magically re-appears.

As you can see, this is a problem for me, too. I just know how to prevent it :)
