View Full Version : Trade approval and rejection - discussion

I posted this on the Yahoo site, in an attempt to find a solution that doesn't involve anti-competitive trades going through, or every single trade being dissected by other owners before it happens:
Every proposed trade must be posted on the Forum, along with the date on which the trade will be automatically confirmed by Yahoo. However, the validity of the trade will NOT be debated on the Forum, as it is NOT the job of other owners to point out when one owner has managed to outwit another, and renegotiate deals on their behalf.
Instead, any owners who object to the trade because they believe it significantly impairs the competitive balance of the league should PM myself, Coney36, and SanFrANSKY with their concerns. If there are four or more complaints, and it's not just a case of a bunch of owners getting together to screw a divisional rival (in other words, the trade must actually be unbalanced), then the trade will be rejected.
I do not believe it's in the interests of the league for every trade to be scrutinised and debated by everyone before it goes through, because then we end up with a situation in which trades are arranged by group consensus, not by two owners negotiating.
I'll have to hand over some commissioner priviledges come August, as Yahoo only allows one commissioner access to the trading tools. Deal?

I should add - the automatic approval date has now been moved to 5 days later, rather than 2 days, at the request of the owners.

So based on this new rule...what's the proposed trade b/w Saxmania and Coney36 ;)

I should re-word - "proposed trade" means one that has been agreed by both parties. At the moment, Coney36 hasn't agreed to the trade I've offered. Perhaps "pending trade" would be a better term to use. In any case, the deal between myself and Coney hasn't been agreed by both owners, so it doesn't need to be posted yet. Is that okay?

OK. :)
PENDING trades. Gotcha. :)

Being a rookie in the NYYFans league, I'm just going to go with the flow and be ok with what the rest of the owners decide. :D
Looking at how long these trades have been pending, I think 2 days is long enough to wait. The first trade (the one everyone was complaining about) seemed to process immediately. But waiting 5 days (esp if you are trying to fill a roster spot for an injured or benched player) seems excessive. Once the season starts I expect most people to be checking the site daily anyway.

To all:
The 5-day period was under specific requests from owners, so I feel a little silly changing it straight back. Let's give the new system a couple of weeks trial before we reverse the decision, okay?

What was the original waiting period? Was there one? Just wondering because as has been discussed to death, the original trade went through with virtually no waiting or discussion period.
Just my $0.02, that 2-days would be a good compromise. In another league I'm in, I have a trade pending, and even a 2-day waiting period seems interminable, and the season hasn't even started yet! :)

Just saw this on the Yahoo page:
Trade delay
by: Saxmanias Swingers (saxmanuk2002) Mar 21, 10:11 am EST
The trade delay was changed to 5 days at the request of other owners last weekend - I am loathe to change it back at such short notice. I'll put a poll up on the forum sometime this weekend for the whole of the League to vote on.
Sounds good, Mr. Commissioner! :)
