OK...it's the CANADIAN Baseball Hall of Fame. Did you even know there WAS a Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame???

ST. MARY'S, Ontario -- Pete Rose might be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame sooner than anyone expected.
The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, that is.
Rose, who played part of the 1984 season with the Montreal Expos, has been nominated for induction into the Canadian shrine.
A 16-member committee will begin evaluating the nominations of Rose and 45 others starting next week. Inductees will be announced Feb. 24.
"From the baseball standpoint I could see the selection committee members having some reservations," Canadian Hall of Fame president and CEO Tom Valcke told the London Free Press. "From the marketing side, (Rose's induction) would go a long way in our awareness campaign."
Rose joined the Expos for the start of the 1984 season and batted .259 with 23 RBIs in 95 games. He played first base and the outfield.
While with Montreal, Rose got his 4,000th lifetime hit.
Rose, the career hits leader, agreed to a permanent ban from baseball in August 1989 following an investigation of his gambling. Because of the ban, he cannot appear on the ballot for the major league Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Rose applied for reinstatement in 1997 and commissioner Bud Selig has recently began contemplating the issue.
Also nominated for the Canadian Hall of Fame are former major leaguers Joe Carter and Kirk McCaskill and managers Tommy Lasorda and Sparky Anderson.
Carter played for the Toronto Blue Jays and McCaskill was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario. Lasorda pitched for the International League's Montreal Royals and Anderson played for and managed the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.

This has nothing to do with your post, but rather a feature of your signature. You ask :" Why do people sing take me out to the ballgame when they are already at the ballgame." This is an interesting quesiton that can be answered this simply. . the song obviously originate from Red Sox fans to express the fact that even when you are at a Red Sox game, you still need to be taken to a ballgame in order to watch baseball.

The Canadian Baseball Hall of fame on Feb 24. He did play for the Expos and got his 4000 hit with them
I heard the head of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame interviewed today on ESPN. Rose hopes this will help him into Cooperstown. I wonder how many people are IN the Candaian Baseball Hall of Fame anyway!

Rose Reacts to Canadian Hall Nomination
ST. MARYS, Ontario (AP) -- Pete Rose was more than happy to hear he's been nominated for the baseball Hall of Fame - the one in Canada.
Rose, who played part of the 1984 season for Montreal and got his 4,000th career hit with the Expos, is under consideration for the Canadian shrine. Inductees will be announced Feb. 24.
"Regarding any sincere recognition of my accomplishments, I'm all for it," Rose said in a Canadian Hall of Fame release Friday.
Rose joined the Expos at the start of the 1984 season and batted .259 with 23 RBIs in 95 games. He played first base and in the outfield.
While with Montreal, Rose got his 4,000th lifetime hit. In mid-August that season, he was traded to Cincinnati for Tom Lawless and became the Reds' manager.
"This is especially gratifying given that the 4,000th hit in Montreal came almost 20 years ago, and that the people in Canada still remember me and are considering honoring me," Rose said.
"I remember the 4,000th hit like it was yesterday. I slashed a double off of Jerry Koosman in Olympic Stadium on Friday the 13th, and we beat the Phillies 5-1 that day."

"While it cannot be disputed that the induction of Pete Rose would be a major event, we do not take the limelight or headlines that might coincide with an induction into account when determining the merit of any nominees," Canadian Hall president Tom Valcke said Friday.
Rose was nominated by Tony Riviera, chairman of the newly formed Canadian Baseball League.
"I believe Pete Rose fits the mandate of the Hall," Riviera said. "He has contributed significantly to the game of baseball in this country."

This should be a financial bonanza for Rose. He can now set up a table whereever the Hall of Fame is in Canada and sell his autograph for a lot of money.

Bob Gibson doesn`t care one way or the other. Didn't Rose make a deal a long time ago that if baseball stopped the investigation into his gambling he would accept the lifetime ban? If so, he has to live with that.

TORONTO (AP) -- Pete Rose failed to make the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
Baseball's career hit leader -- who spent part of the 1984 season with Montreal and got career hit No. 4,000 with the Expos -- did not win the support of at least 75 percent of the selection committee.
Tom Valcke, president and CEO of the Canadian Hall of Fame made the announcement Monday on a Canadian TV show. He did not immediately say how close Rose came to making the hall in St. Marys, Ontario.
The 2003 class features former Blue Jays slugger Joe Carter, Canadian pitcher Kirk McCaskill, administrator Richard Belec and the Vancouver Asahi team. There were 46 nominees.
Rose is ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. He agreed to a permanent ban from the sport in 1989 following a gambling investigation.
Tony Riviera, chairman of the newly formed Canadian Baseball League, nominated Rose for the Canadian hall. Rose's autographed batting gloves used for the historic hit are on display in the museum along with photos.
Rose joined the Expos at the start of the 1984 season and batted .259 with 23 RBIs in 95 games. He played first base and outfield.
The 61-year-old Rose broke in with Cincinnati in 1963. He went to Philadelphia as a free agent in 1979, returned to Cincinnati in 1984 and managed the Reds until he was banned.
Rose repeatedly has denied betting on baseball, and he and commissioner Bud Selig have met to discuss his ban. Rose has said he hoped to be reinstated by the time of the Canadian hall's induction ceremony -- in St. Marys on June 28.
Carter endeared himself to Canadians by hitting the ninth-inning home run off Mitch Williams that won the Blue Jays the 1993 World Series.
"The seven years I spent there in Toronto were fabulous," Carter told the Canadian network CTV from Kansas City, Mo. "And to top my whole career off, to be elected to the Canadian Hall of Fame is an honor that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
McCaskill of Kapuskasing, Ontario, spent 12 years in the majors, playing for California and the Chicago White Sox from 1985-96. He had a career record of 106-108. Ferguson Jenkins, with 284 wins, is the only Canadian to have won more games in the majors.
Belec is a longtime official who was president of Baseball Canada from 1994-96.
The Asahi club was a Japanese-Canadian team in Vancouver that won several championships before World War II.
Since its inception in 1983, the hall has inducted 58 members, including Jenkins, Jackie Robinson and Gary Carter.

Does anyone really think Pete Rose belongs in the Canadian Baseball of Fame? How long did he play for the Expos, a year?
Heck, for that matter, did he ever play any winter ball in the Domincan Republic? If so, let's induct him in the Dominican Baseball Hall of Fame.
The whole notion seems so absurd to me. Seems like more of a publicity stunt than anything.
