I was under the impression that FA's could not be signed until next week, two weeks after the conclusion of the World Series......

Indians sign reliever Santiago
Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians signed free-agent reliever Jose Santiago, who will compete for a bullpen job next season.

Santiago appeared in 42 games for Philadelphia last season, going 1-3 with a 6.70 ERA. He struck out 30, walked 15 and allowed 56 hits in 47 innings.

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound Santiago was 8-6 with two saves and a 3.91 ERA in 45 relief appearances with Kansas City in 2001. He was traded to the Phillies midway through that season for Paul Byrd.

Thanks for the info rightfielder!

I guess they don't have to wait to sign as long as I had previously anticipated!

Maybe he didn't play this year, only in 2001 and no one had the rights to him, and therefore he can be signed? That's what I would guess, cause' Byrd's been a Royal all year, hasn't he?

Thanks for the tidbit RF. :)
