The Swooning Sux actually have a lead at 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Henderson scored in the first on a wild pitch as the Elephant Man K'd.
Gallop Agnew scored in the second on a 6-4 FC by Rickey....

Elsewhere, Payrod just hit a two run shot. It's his 40th of the year.
The Twins went 4 up 3 down. Going to the top of the fifth, still 2-0 Sux.

Sux still up going to the top of the seventh. 3-0. Sleepfield actually looks pretty good here. He's only given up two hits with two walks & four K's.

Payrod just cracked another one. A solo shot for #41.
Rickey hit a one out double and then was promptly picked off second by Rincon.

Howry is the new Sux pitcher. He just walked Mohr on four pitches, forcing in Ortiz. 3-1 Sux, bottom of the 7th, bases still loaded with none out. :gulp:

It's going to the ninth with Sux still up 4-1. Embree was amazing in relief. He faced 6 batters and K'd five of them. Wow.

Yeah -tz, I don't either. That was a helluva pickup for them. Time is on our side though. They are going to have a lot of ground to make up.
We seem to be firing on all cylinders right now. :gulp:
Despite the four run lead ... Oogie is pitching the ninth. Oh how I wish he would blow it! :o

Rivas K'd to end the game. Sux win 5-2. Magic number remains at 35.
The Twins tried to stage a two out comeback, but they could only come up with one run. Oh well, guess we'll have to be satisfied with keeping the seven game lead.

Hey, George, how'd you figure out that the magic number was 35 so far?

There's now 41 games left in the regular season. Subtracting the 7 game lead leaves 34 games. One more than that gave me the answer to 35. In other words, if we win the next 35 games, the Sux can't catch us. Of course, we won't win that many in a row. But the SUX sure won't either. :) A combination of our wins and their losses that add up to 35 and we win the East. :gulp:

I only see the definition to this in September, and the "add one" (you'd actually said "one more than that") is what I'd needed. So far, I had this:
What is the magic number and how is it computed?
The so-called magic number is usually defined as the smallest number such that any combination of wins by the first-place team and losses by the second-place team totaling the magic number guarantees that the first-place team will win the division.
