View Full Version : sox dangerous
Guys if Shea Hillenbradn continues to play like an AL MVP candidate the Yanks might have some stiff competition coming in the AL East- they destroyed Toronto yesterday, Lowe looks like a valid #2, Pedro should come around, Nomar and Mannny havent even really started hitting yet.....
you can say last year all you want, but last yr sox had psycho Everett, Crazy duquette, Pedro injured most of year, Varitek missing last few months, and Craig Grebeck as the everyday shortstop. Add this to the addition of Lowe to the rotation and Hillenbrand possibly breaking out and you must admnit they loook good.
oh yeah and i forgot to mention the addition of a true leadoff man in Damon, sanchez defense over last yrs Offerman, and leadership in Rickey Henderson- new attitude around Beantown.
Lets just hope that Tony Clark doesnt start hitting and PEdro doesnt come back to form.
What is there to admit except that this belongs in Around the Majors. BTW, how many April World Champion trophies do the sux have now?

Shea Hillenbrand sucks, Rick Down said so.

Did he really imply that? What did he say?

Someone asked him (because he used to be the hitting coach for the Sox) about Hillenbrand's success and Down said something to the effect of, "This won't last too long, his shoulder will start opening up too soon again and he'll be back to his usual self."

The Sox do have the potential to be very dangerous. They have a lot of good components, including two guys that could win an MVP any year (three, if you count Pedro), and if they get some depth out of the rotation they really could be a legitimate comtender.
Don't get me wrong, the Yanks are the better team and will take the division, but if they should happen to stumble (ya know, like losing 6 of 7  ), I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox right there.

Sux to me seem like a less injury-plagued team than last season which can be a constant threat down the road. it would be great seeing them storming to first place, if just to keep the Yanks on their toes, not letting up any.
In fact, someone mentioned that Jeter didn't do as well last year since Nomah was out most of the season. That bit of competition forcing you to improve could be a great thing for the Yanks.
Be nice guys, all the Sox have is April...
Now where did I put the "Pedro's arm falling off poll..."

Don't worry about the Sox....they always start off strong, they won't keep it up :)

Personally, I would love to have the Sux stay in first place till the last possible moment, cause that makes it all the more painful when it all comes crashing down.
Every year this happens. Early lead in the standings, fans all excited, curse to be broken, "this is OUR year," .....followed by an injury here and there, a couple of losing streaks, clubhouse woes, and finally that painful agonizing slow death. It's as easy as predicting the seasons and the sunset....it's gonna get hot, then cold; and this light will give way to darkness. As Ross Perot would say, "it's just sad."

Pedro would have to be healthier than he has been the last two years.
Not likely.
Hilebrand is unlikely to remain THIS hot all year.
Lowe is having his hottest streak ever. His rise above mediocraty will be short lived.
The true Sox curse is their fan base. They are wiliing to fill Fenway for the chance to wear an overpriced "YANKEES suck" T-shirt and scream YANKEES suck when the YANKEES are not even in town. Sox owners know that winning is not crucial. They continue to make big money without big results.
The redsox are a pathology.

EVERY YEAR, they start out hot, and EVERY YEAR, they fall apart. Pedro's arm will get injured, Shea Hillenbrand and Derek Lowe will go back to their average-or-worse career paths soon, the Sux will have no pitching and the Yankees will come out on top byb 15 games again. They've played less than 20 games and you're already worried? Give me a break.
