View Full Version : This day in Yankees baseball - Nov 27th
(1947) Triple Crown winner Ted Williams (.343, 32,162) is edged out by the Yankee Clipper Joe DiMaggio (.315, 20, 97) for the AL MVP by one point.

If I'm not mistaken, Joe D. won because Williams was hated by the press because he wasn't very cooperative with them and because Joe helped the yankees win another pennant!   :NY: :NY: :NY:
And becuase Joe was a Yankee and Ted was a Red Sox...

Although today, such a characteristic would work against him...:(

Just think of what talk radio and the general media would do today if this had happened. Yes, Joe being a Yankee did help, but Ted was hated by the press and this hatred didn't end for a long time!

Sixty one, could you expand on this a little? I've heard some people (usually Yankee haters) who say that Joe won this and the 41 MVP because he was a Yankee, not because of his great skills.
