One of my favorite Yankee teams was, of course, 1961. Name the six Yankees on that team to hit 20 or more homers and how many each of them hit.  :NY: :NY: :NY: :NY:

I'm gonna go with the obvious ones . . . since 61 was before my time . . .
beyond that I'd only be guessing . . . a little help from those fine minds out there
Maris-61, Mantle-54, Skowron-28, Berra-22, Howard-21, and Johnny Blanchard with 21.

Great job, Jay!! You have them all!
The interesting thing about this stat is that Yogi, Ellie and Johnnie were all catchers. Ellie played a little 1B and OF as I recal and Blanchard PH and played 1B also. I didn't look this up so my memory may be somewhat faulty on this.

I also seem to remember Yogi playing left field and doing some of the catching. However, Ellie was the main catcher....this may have been the year that he named Whitey Chairman of the Board. I also remember that Blanchard cried when he was traded in 1965...he hated to leave NY!:NY: :NY: :NY: :NY:
OK, I had to look it up, even though I knew sixty-one couldn't be wrong about anything to do with the 61 season.
Here it is.
Yogicaught in 15 games and played the OF (primarily LF) in 85 games.
Blanchard caught in 48 games and played the OF in another 15;he also appeared in another 30 games as a PH/DH )was the DH in effect in 61? Blanchard appeared in 93 games offensively and 63 defensively)
Howard caught in 111 games and was at 1B for another 9 games appearing in a total of 129 games offensively.

No, Ron Blomberg was the first DH in, I believe, 1973.

Thanks for the specifics, Nome. By the way, I had the good fortune of meeting Ron Blumberg at this year's oldtimers game and found him to be a cordial, pleasant individual who readily signed autographs and speak to the fans. He was the lst. DH!
By the way, Nome, can't you get that other poster from your town..chevy356 to post on this site?  :NY: :NY: :NY: :NY:
