My question is this:

If you look at old Yankee ROAD uniforms (from the 1960s and prior), you will see a darker, woolen look than what is used today. Also, those old jerseys showed the "NEW YORK" and the number in blue without today's white outline. Also, no thin stripe on the end of the short sleeve.

Does anyone know precisely when the road uniform was given this subtle change? My guess would be 1976 when the stadium was remodeled, but I am not sure, and do not remember exactly.

Anyone?

I think the change occurred sometime in the 1960's when the fabric of the uniform changed. I don't remember the type of fabric it was called but I do know it was lighter and more form fitting in the legs. It wasn't long after that when players started to wear their pants longer and showed less of the socks.:NY: :NY:

The change in the road uniform started in 1973..... If you look at the pictures ( a Yearbook will suffice), the uniform change to "double knits" started.
The uniform numbers along "NEW YORK" across the chest were outlined in white with the subtle White/BlueWhite piping on the sleeves of the road uniform......
Didn't care for it.....until I saw what the "86 Red Sox road uniform looked like with only the blue numbers/lettering on a double knit fabric...Didn't look good...Glad the change made in '73 turned out to be a good one

When did the Yankees go from NAVY blue to "midnight" blue??

Slippery: In 1973.when the change to "double knit" fabric was introduced...... Possibility that the color "Navy" looked too shiny vis a vis "Midnight".... Just looking at my Yankee uniform jerseys (1964) and (1978) the color is subtle, probably because of the difference in fabric...
