On September 1, 1963 Tom Tresh became the ninth player to homer from each side of the plate in a single game joining teammate Mickey Mantle among four AL and five NL players to hit HRs left and righthanded in one game. The Yanks beat Baltimore 5-4.
Tom would accomplish that feat twice more in his career, on July 13, 1964 and again during a June 6, 1965 doubleheader when he hit four home runs, three in the nightcap.
Tresh, the son of former ML catcher Mike Tresh, was AL Rookie of the Year in 1962 when he hit .286, with 20 home runs and 93 RBI, as a switch-hitting Yankee shortstop while Tony Kubek was in military service.
Tresh moved to left field in 1963 when Tony Kubek returned from military service and continued to hit homers, three times topping 25.
A damaged knee in 1967 hastened the end of his career.
