If this idiot Cone hadn't been so self-obsessed he could have come into Yankee ST in March and competed for the fifth spot. If he came to camp IN SHAPE - as he finally did with the Blowsox - he may well have gotten that spot. He surely would have had his chance when Duque went down, and Andy too for a while.
Cone could have had a contract paying anywhere from $500,000 to a million, but loaded with incentives totalling millions more. Although it is not as if he needs the money!
But no. He expected the Yankees to just HAND him a starting spot despite stinking up the Bronx for all of 2000.
Beyond all that, by going to Boston Cone destroyed his relationship with Yankee fans and he can kiss good-by to Old Timers' Days, retired numbers, plaques, Days, whatever.
As I said, Cone is an idiot.

Let's not jump the gun here. Cleveland has a very explosive offense and they can beat up on the best when they're hot. One bad outing and everybody says, "Ha ha! I knew he wouldn't make it..."
If he has another performance like this, which could be against the Yankees, then I'll say that his days are done, but one bad outting doesn't mean his arm is dead.
Nevertheless, it sure was fun seeing him get rocked on Baseball Tonight!

All I'll say is Carl better not get cocky if he gets a good hit or sticks anything over the plate. If he does, it'll be Roger who'll be The Intimidator, not just Dale Earnhardt (bless his soul). &po'd&:bad:

To think how Coney was given $12m, didn't work out much, then suddenly he decides to jump ship and compare the Sox to '98 Yankees. I guess we'll have to show him that the Yankee pride stays there *ONLY* in da Bronx!!!
Three Cheers!!! &po'd&&po'd&
I am sure you all want to hear this, but here it goes!!!
Coney will always be a Yankee in my heart!!!
:O
Cone broke my heart when he went to Boston, after supporting him last season loss after loss after loss. I thought Yankees were more loyal. :NY:

Is that like never-never land?
I'm not going to comment in depth in deference to CarolR's feelings. But boy, it's hard.
I'll just say this: Thank you David for your great contributions to what has been a fabulous run for the Yankees. I will never boo you, but my heart has sadly turned cold towards you and I don't know how long it will be before it will turn back.
I liked Coney when he was a Yankee and was deferential when he decided to join the Sox. But i began hating him when he started remarks to the effect that joining Boston was the best thing that ever happened to him. No soup for you Mr Cone!!!

How funny, I associate him with the Mets more than anything. I appreciate him for the things he did with the Yanks, but I always thought of him as an ex-Met, still do. Maybe that's why I don't feel as betrayed as most everyone else.

It was nice to see Cone get lit up last night. I don't hate the guy, but I can only root for the yankees. Plus, some of the comments he made were pretty stupid. Oh well, he gave up a championship ring for more money.

Now you got me thinking of that funny outfit Madonna used to wear.
Cone is doing exactly what I hoped he would do all season. He convinced the Sox that he could fill a starter roll, and possibly prevented them from acquiring another arm before the trade deadline by pitching just well enough. Now that it's just about too late to get someone good, they're stuck with Cone the rest of the way and he's breaking down like a 30-1 shot coming down the home stretch at Saratoga. How perfect is that? :P

That pose looks awfully familiar. I'm sure I saw him in the exact same pose during his losses last year.
Well, it took him a year but he finally had a start that helped the Yankees. :D

Cone's unforgiveable anti-Yankee smack talk three months ago:
He compared the 2001 BlowSox to the 1998 Yankees. :barf:

HAHAHAHAHAHA Cone you degenerate greedy loser...
Can't you tell from that picture that he's looking down on the ground for any lost change the other pitcher might have lost ?
TO - why talk about Enrique in this thread - I'm puzzled.

Yea. Well, he finally had a decent game. Let's hope we don't have to wait three weeks for another one. But I wouldn't be surprised.

sorry for the confusion, I had two windows open earlier today, and that Enrique comment was really meant for the Game Day Thread..
I was commenting how Enrique went for a foul ball that was 5 rows back and almost landed in some guys seat.
My comments about him were in jest only,
as I am trying to accept him as a Yankee (still see him in a Tribe uni, and also see him coming around 3rd base too in 1998 on Knoblauch's bad ALCS play...)
Today Enrique went a long way in making me accept him (as well as his play the last few games)..
Good Job Enrique,
Sundays Game should be real interesting to see how Coney Fares against :moose: !
Also if Rey as the Gamethreaders have renamed El Duque how he will stand against Pedro!
LETS GO YANKEES!!!
LETS SLAM THEM SUX FOR THE SEASON!
:D
