Here is a photo of Leo Durocher and Babe Ruth...

Leo made his first brief appearance with the Yankees in 1925...He came back up fir the 1928 and 1929 season, and was issued the VERY FIRST #7 in 1929 when the Yankees instituted numbers on the backs of their jersey's...

Did you hear that story in some recent book (can't remember the title, something like "Flannels & Train Cars" )

but turns out Leo and Babe were roomies for a year , 1928 I think, and that Babe would be missing money every now then from his pants.

One day he left a pair of pants with some 20's he marked up , later that night he check Leo's wallet and found the marked 20's.

For about 2 minutes Babe then beat the crap out of Leo until some awoken teammates had to bust in and save Leo from practical death....

Team October,
I have heard that story too...I can just imagine the screams coming out of that room as The Babe tossed Leo from Pillar to post!...

Gehrig,
I have a similar picture to the one you posted. Here it is...

That guy was some kind of moron. How'd he get anywhere's anyway? I read a story about Willy Mays making a spectacular barehanded catch and Leo instructed everyone in the dugout to give him the silent treatment. The "silent treatment"! What's that supposed to prove or accomplish? The opposing manager (actually I think it was Branch Ricky) sent Mays a note congratulating him on "the greatest catch he ever hope'd to see". Mays told Leo that he didn't need Leo to tell him it was a great catch - he knew it was a great catch. How that guy ever rose in the world baffles me.

In all his years of playing baseball, there were only three guys with whom Ruth didn't get along. Carl Mays was one. "Bullet Joe" Bush was another. Leo Durocher was the third.

I never know what to make of the guy. Half the stuff I've read about him he seems like a real bright guy. The other half of the time he shoots his mouth off.
