Coach K pissed off at David Blatt's comments on the 1972 USA-USSR Gold Medal Game.

I'm already over this.
It's going to be a tough road for the United States to win the 2010 FIBA World Championship Gold Medal.
Russia will be the first big test the Americans will have so far in the tournament. Their big men are physical, taller and can run led by Alexander 'Sasha' Kaun and Timofey Mozgov, who signed with the New York Knicks.
They also have pretty good guards with Anton Ponkrashov running PG and Sergei Monia is a deadly shooter from downtown.
If the U.S. beats Russia, they take on the winner of Lithuania and Argentina and that's no cakewalk either.
Lithuania almost beat the Americans in the 2000 Sydney games and Argentina has a score to settle with the Americans after we beat them in the 2008 Olympics semifinals in Beijing with the Redeem Team.
If the U.S. wins that, they have to deal with the winner of Serbia/Turkey-Slovenia QF winner semifinal in the Gold Medal game.
If the U.S. wins the 2010 FIBA Gold Medal, I think we told the whole world that we're completely out of our funk and we adjusted to your game too.

No controversy needed.
Kevin Durant's 33 points lifts the United States over Russia 89-79 in the 38th anniversary of the controversial 1972 Munich Summer Olympics Basketball Gold Medal Game betwee the U.S. and the old Soviet Union.

Timofey Mozgov was the only Russian that stepped up in today's game.
The rest of the team were neutralized with poor shooting.
Sergey Monya was held to 5 points on 1-7 shooting (1-5 3-pt.)
Great defense by the U.S. today.

The Bulls are talking to the Nuggets about Melo. Noah would be the biggest piece of the puzzle for the Bulls. Noah has exceeded my expectations greatly but it'd be dumb not to do this if it came to fruition.

I'm watching Kevin Durant put on a clinic vs Lithuania today in the semis. Wow. 38 points...big shot after big shot. Pretty sure thats an American record for most points in a game in international play. Nice effort against a very good team today.
We'll get Serbia or Turkey in the gold medal game

Coach K is showing how deep Team USA really is.
The defense has been very effective. They're making their free throws and treys.

Team USA is one half away from winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship gold medal.
They lead Turkey 42-32 at halftime in the final.
Kevin Durant leads all scorers with 20 points on 7/12 shooting.
Hedo Turkoglu leads Turkey with 11 points.
We're playing very good defense forcing 12 turnovers and shooting well from the line, but we need to shoot better from the field.

It feels so good for Coach K and Team USA to bring home the FIBA World Championship Gold back home after 16 years and the misery of the 2002 tournament.
Credit to Jerry Colangelo for resurrecting Team USA men's basketball.
The 2008 Olympic Gold Medal and the 2010 FIBA Gold Medal to follow it up sent a message that Team USA basketball is back.
We also automatically qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Durant is so good.
Watched a lot of the game today. I realize some key guys weren't there, but it was still pretty amazing how much Durant stood out among the best players in the world.
The defense, however, was a team effort, and it was stifling. It's amazing how young that team is, too. Look forward to the Olympics in 2012.

I wonder if the Trailblazers silently weep at night for passing on Durant.

That USA defense was suffocating.
They really go into the faces of Hedo Turkoglu and Turkey, forcing turnovers and terrible shot selections.
Coach K and Team USA showed that they caught up to the World's game including shooting jumpers and defending the backdoor cuts.

I've always said that if we take these international tournaments seriously....we're still far and away the best country out there. We got sloppy in 02 and 04, and we got beat since the talent level has gotten better that we cant just "wing it" anymore and expect to win like we did in the 90s.
But the national team system that Colangelo and Coach K installed in 2006 has worked wonders. We are showing the proper amount of respect to the Euro teams, the FIBA game as well as properly choosing our own team. As long as we keep doing this, we will keep winning.

It's amazing how dominant the team was, considering we didn't run a single offensive set all tournament. But damn, the defense was amazing.
Great tournament, I probably watched more NBA TV this summer than I did during the regular season. August and September basketball is awesome.

It was a great team, and they really played well individually on D. I just wonder what that tournament would have been like without Durant -- he was dominant
