Anyone have any further information about this?

The Yankees are performing several facility tweaks to the year-old Yankee Stadium, including the creation of a new grandstand-level party deck. But its second-year punch list is relatively small compared to those for other recently opened ballparks, Trost said.
Where the heck would they put that?

i have not the friggen clue. there was a picture i saw that some guy photoshopped where he added 2 extra sides for the Mohegan Sun Sports Bar where it took alll the obsturcted seats out and it could add a party porch above. i thought it was a good idea.

Wouldn't they be losing the income from all those $5 seats? the fewer seats there are in the stadium, the fewer people come and buy food n stuff. would they place seating there? (little tables and chairs?)
also, the bleachers are not in the "grand stand"...

probably people who had season tix there for next season get that party deck
or
maybe it will be just $5 to sit/stand there without an obstructed view which would be better

Be better if they did this an convert the area to Monument Park, so you can see this throughout the game. The current location is too hidden, more like a cave.
This should be interesting to see once its all done here. Hmm..
I wonder also if they will be doing anything about the wind's swirling at the stadium that made it so home run friendly this past season.

Thats a great idea, they could make something like Old Comiskey park had with the picnic tables out there.

Weren't they going to wait until OYS was torn down? That might affect the wind patterns, and it wouldn't make sense to alter NYS now only to have to do it again after OYS comes down. Of course, that could also just have been corporate spin to refute the claim that NYS is a band box.

The article said "Grandstand Party Deck". So it would not be located in the CF bleacher area.

could be, that lounge sucked big time. i mean i only went in once and it was during the work out day. the best part was the angus burger which sucked that it was the only place you could get it but besides that, i would be pissed if i own the premium seats and that was the "lounge" that you payed for.

It is at the end of Audi Club, would be easy access up to the GS level. Unless they build some type of overhang over some Terrace seats and call it a party deck

my guess is there gonna eliminate some of the wheelchair seating in the far wings and build some type of party deck.

Maybe they're turning in one or two of the handicapped sections into a "party deck".
I always thought they had a lot of handicapped seating on the grandstand and it never seemed that they were all full... seems like a pretty cool idea.

Haha... didnt mean to 'steal' your idea from my last post... i responded before i read all the other responses. But yes, i think this makes sense and is what they are doing. I think its a great idea too. Maybe make it more affordable to "rent" out for a game than it would be to get a real suite... that way you can get a group of 20 friends together for a game.

It could be as simple as leaving the tables the Yanks put up in the postseason in section 405 for the press- sell them at a group rate advertising you have tables to put your food and drinks on and market it as a "Party Deck"... this will also guarantee that the Yankees will sell out arguably the worst seats in the house for more than the $20/ticket they got last year.
The other thing they can do is like what the Dodgers did with the All You Can Eat Pavilion- unlimited hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, soda and water and charge perhaps $50/ticket

Actually,I think that the seats in LF are worse as they are further away then RF.
But in any case the Grandstand is sold out - there is no reason for the Yankees to remove affordable seating when they already don't have enough.

Which is why they would do it- we haven't seen any major construction at the stadium which means a Grandstand party deck would have to be where current seats are- perhaps it is in the concourse, but then from a marketing standpoint, it would make more sense to call it the Terrace Party Deck since the terrace is more expensive and better views so they could charge more.
The only areas in the Grandstand where the Yanks wouldn't have to displace season ticket holders are the extreme wings, plus it guarantees the Yankees more money- not great for the fans because of less cheap seats, but good for the Yankees wallets, and to market it, it's a new "premium" area that the average fan can afford
just my guess...

Do the Yanks really need to keep effin us, it is already ridiculous. They need to stop stepping on the common/real fan and pushing us out of the park.
I'm thinking that the party deck might be a little like the party deck at the new cowboys stadium in Dallas, where it is the cheapest available ticket option. Basically a $30 "party pass" there gets you into the stadium and gives you access to a giant standing room area as well as a small general admission (no assigned seats, first come first serve) section of seats. I believe the seating is bleacher style for their party deck, but not sure)
If they are planning something along these line for Yankee stadium, I'd guess they'd price it cheaper than the grandstand seats since you are not guaranteed a seat. Also the available space for standing room is tiny compared to the Dallas stadium, where it was part of the initial design. So there would have to be adjustments to the concept and pricing (if this is even what they are doing).

I think the "party deck" is going to be called the "Malibu Terrace Deck"...obviously sponsoried by Malibu rum...Located on the Terrace level on the first base side...diretly above Gate 6...it will have a full bar (a la the Tommy Bahama bar in the great hall) but also have various grilled food options...not sure about seating or anything but at least another good option for the terrace/grandstand folks...

Got it.
So . . when they said directly above Gate 6, did they say that it will be literally over the gate like the JB Lounge is over Gate 4? As opposed to being on the existing Terrace concourse NEAR gate 6. I hope it's on the roof of Gate 6 as that is wasted space and its location will offer a fantastic view of Manhattan and a view thru the skylights into the Great Hall.

I just tried to confirm this...but couldn't get specifics...but they do believe it is literally on top of Gate 6...so Sparky, you may be 100% correct...there definitely is construction still going on right now at Yankee Stadium...and when you think of the concourse on the terrace level, there isn't room to have a "Party Deck"...
I did confirm the cuisine would be grilled types of food...but they could obviously change the food offering at any time (before or duing the season)...and this also will be open when gates open up until the end of the 7th inning...
definitely sounds interesting

This does sound cool. Hopefully it's open to all or if there is a fee it's nominal (and our definition of nominal, not the Yankees). The sounds a bit like the old Sidewalk Cafe and could also be a replacement for the Food Court that "we" were supposed to get before they turned that into the JB Suite Lounge.
Thanks for the info!

So far all I can get is that there is no seating options in the Malibu area.
My source "needs to get back to me," so they are likely checking about when this will be officially announced and will hold the info off until then.
I have been emailing people about this all offseason without any success. Nice job by doolhoyas getting a bit of a scoop.
What a money grab. Sure, it won't cost anything to get in other than not being able to see the field and have to pay $10+ for a drink. If it is a "Malibu" branded area, they're paying a lot of money to stake that claim as a "Party Deck" for people who have no interest in the game and are only interested in impressing their Business Clients. It's a Poor man's Jim Beam Lounge. Those who can't afford the Full JB Experience now have someplace to go. My guess? They will have young ladies in short shorts and tank tops as barmaids and servers. And a few fake palm trees thrown in for that "tropical feel".
I have no problem sitting in my Row 14 seat, then going to the Party Porch in the Bleacher cafe later in the game with the real fans, thank you very much.

Well that is disappointing. Between the MSSB, the TB Martini Bar, the Great Hall and the Food Court, NYS already has plently of places where you should be able to sit but can't.
I was really hoping for Picnic tables and umbrellas like the Sidewalk Cafe had :(

I just re-checked the email, and I initially mis-read it. There is no PAID seating in this area (in other words - nothing like they have in the Audi Club or Mohegan Sun Sports Bar). There may well be some type of seating, but I couldn't get that info.
It is pretty clear that this place exists, but they're probably holding the official info until the next time they parade Lonn Trost out to update the "tremendous ticket sales" and improvements to the stadium.

no, i really hope the yankees dont..no offense. when you come to a baseball game, youre there to watch baseball, not bring your kids to a playground inside the stadium. it woudnt surprise me if they did it, because they could charge money for a couple pitches or batting cage or whatever. if i were a parent and brought a child to the ballgame and they saw a playground, thats all you would hear about. i really hope they avoid that at all cost.

You know, I was going to go into that little idea as well in my reply... If the child isn't interested, then leave them home until they are. Otherwise you're turning it into a Citifield.
But as for that "Malibu Deck" and seating- Is it possible they want to get rid of those tables and chairs buried behind the cap store on that upper walkway? It seemed that was such an after thought. 5 tables and some chairs just strewn near a food stand.

It seems like from the buzz around here it's going to all be a "Malibu" sponsored area, and I doubt they're going to have kids attractions in an area named after a brand of booze. If it's going to be focused around Malibu offerings then they will probably have people conducting access control at the entrance, only 21 and over. Just like the martini bar area.

So is this going to be set back in that area along the back where all the other refreshments areas are, opposite side of the walkway from where the seating is? Can't see game from inside the area? I would assume anywhere you could see the game like that they'd want to charge you a price.

It sounds like a similar set up to the Jim Beam Suite. You can't see the field from there, but you can hangout, get a bite to eat, have a few drinks. There will most likely be some flat screens there also. I'm guessing they will get rid of the vendors that was in that area, remodel that area to accomodate this amlibu deck. What I think would be really cool is if they expanded the deck to go out onto the roof area above Gate 6. That could be a nice place to hang out especially during the summer before the game.
This poster on BBF found a recent arial photo of the stadium, showing what could be an outdoor patio above Gate 6.

But I just realized- you DON'T need to buy a ticket to stand outside and pay stadium prices for drinks... you can hang out on the "Hard Rock Patio".

I give the Yankees credit...a couple of neon lights, a torpical sounding sponsor, and presto..instead of two bars empty before gametime, its the happening "Tommy Bahama Bar" and Malibu Party Deck". Based on the mixed drink prices running about $15 each, they pay for the Malibu bottle after one sale.

I actually just went up to the Malibu Party Deck but it is still under construction. They don’t have a confirmed menu at this time, but from what I understand it will feature a full bar and a variety of grilled food. I imagine that it will have some sort of [rain] coverage, but since they are still working on it I was not able to confirm that.

You know there are tables on the Main level behind the pressbox area... hopefully they installed tv's as last year there was no way to follow the game from there though.

Did your rep. mention if it will open out onto the roof of Gate 6?
The picture that was posted shows that is the case. I would think that they would have some kind of retractable awning thing if it's really raining. But with the "Malibu" theming, umbrellas and fake palm trees would give some shade for day games.

He didn't mention anything about Gate 6, but I am pretty sure that's where it is.
Why fake palm trees? Palm trees can't survive NY winters, however NY weather from April - September is equivalent of Florida weather from January - December so they could probably survive the baseball season
The thing is though Malibu just bought naming rights, not rights to the entire area.. I mean, the Delta Suites don't look like an airplane or something.. because of that I hope it is still yankee themed, just with the Malibu name.

Some seats, tables with umbrellas, and some flat screen TV's would be good enough. And oh, a good menu also. If they do all this I wonder how season ticket holders for the Jim Beame suite would feel. I've been to the Jim Beame suite and this party deck sounds(I emphasize sounds) better and you don't need a special ticket for it either.
Did your rep. mention if it will open out onto the roof of Gate 6?
All indications is that this will be built over the current roof of Gate 6. They will probably need to construct a new floor so fans are standing on something other than the actual roofing materials of the Gate. Not to mention the consession stands.
The two big questions are: is there going to be any type of new roof for shade/rain (does not look like this will be fully enclosed like the JBS lounge) and will fans be able to see over the exterior wall of Gate 2 to the outside (I somehow doubt that, the wall looks pretty high :().
BTW, folks have suggested that they add a similar deck over Gate 4. Unlike Gate 2 which has nothing but the Great Hall under it, the Gate 4 roof is over the JBS lounge - and there are HVAC units on that roof for the lounge.
If I remember correctly- before the exhibition vs. the Cubs on the Friday night, we walked around to check the place out. During that walk there appeared to be an open set of doors leading 'outside' in that location. Beyond the doors appeared to be a private party going on, even though it had been drizzling earlier but had stopped. A few tables with umbrellas and what looked like a snack table and a waiter with a tray of champagne or something. So that area may have been semi-planned all along with the intent to entice a sponsor to market the space at a later time.

I doubt they would cut into the JBS clientele. Probably the basics like chicken, ribs, etc... along with beer and Malibu. As I posted earlier, this seems like a "Poor Mans" JB Lounge. Those with a smaller expense budget can impress their customers or clients without the large outlay upfront. But I would guess that instead of actual tables, it will be those standup tables similar to many other food court type places.

Bingo. We all have the ability to make choices. If you choose to buy something, you're doing it consciously knowing the price. You can just as easily eat beforehand or bring food/water in, as I plan on doing tonight.
Considering the concessions at YS sell like hotcakes, obviously there's enough people willing to buy them at their current prices. Same goes for tickets (outside of the Legends Suites, which were obviously overpriced given the fact that so few were sold last year).

Don't laugh, that may likely evolve from the "Party Porch" (my nickname for it) over the Batters Eye. We move out there just about every game around the 6th inning. Great view and you're outside in about 30 seconds once the game is over.

It's so crazy how all these new stadiums have evolved into places to go where watching the game seems to be far down on the list of things to do. Got to get there three hours before the game starts so we can go to the museum, then the kids zone, then we are going to eat at this cafe before the game starts, then we can go to our seats and wait for the game to start. Then we have reservations at the restaurant, after that I want to buy a 16x20 signed picture of the "core four" on the cover of SI touching each other. Then we need to get Dipping Dots for Dessert....... Enter Sandman! Can't we all just go to a ball game and watch the game?

I suggest getting there 2 hours before the game- go to the rightfield stands and try and catch a ball
I suggest checking out the museum at your leasure- Like old yankee stadium had phones to listen to classic yankee moments the museum is there to catch up on the past as well
skip the kids zone
I skip the cafe and restaurants like I did all concessions at rys
I suggest you bring some food and drinks from home cheaper and can be eaten at your seats
Take advantage of the other stuff if it interests you- me and my family have no desire
Its shocking how people complain about things in the new stadium
do what you always did- go watch the game I just dont see all these distractions so many bring up just to have something to complain about

I go to the stadium to take in the atmosphere of the ballgame. I watch the game and cheer loudly. If i ONLY want to watch the game, it is much better, closer, clearer, and if I miss something there are replays or DVR when I watch the game at home. But the roar of the croud, the comradery of thousands of people, and the buzz of the fans is what make ATTENDING a game special to me. I really think that all of these added "features" to the new stadium encourage people to be out of their seats and takes away from the true stadium experience even for the people like me that sit and enjoy the game.

couldnt agree more...I love being there for when the gates open, watch BP in the RF stands, talk to the players from time to time, then the game...all great to experience - what bothers me the most are these fans that will be in stadium bars watching the game on tv then in the 5th inning they finally make it to their seat (in some cases, kicking me out of it), you might as well stay home at that point

I agree. And I am not complaining about all the features at the new stadium like it was suggested earlier. Was half joking really when I wrote what I wrote. Things sometimes get taken to literally on this board. But it is how all new stadiums are built so it is what it is I guess.

As I mentoned earlier- there was probably very little to "prep" in that space. There was a 'private function' on that deck before the Cubs exhibition game last year. We saw people out there and some tables and at least one waiter. My guess was that they were looking for a sponsor to have another "Signature Area". Malibu came through and the "Themed Sponsor Area Terrace Deck" was born.

I stopped by today too just to see what it was about. Not particularly impressive. I guess it's a good enough place to have a drink before the game or something although I'd rather pay the prices at Yankee Tavern or Stan's. The chicken kabobs looked pretty good. Eh. I think the place is great. The tables are kind of lame, and you do get a kind of aluminum siding feel in certain areas, but it's got some excellent city views and it's a neat little place to hang out and eat. It's got the same feel as the old picnic table area back at RYS. Good job on this, A+++

Not I, I'm buying stuff outside and taking it to the deck

I was going to ask . . . can you bring in stuff and just sit at the tables?? Especially since it looks like they just serve drinks there . . .
Also, the bar area looks like it was slapped together :(

I stopped by the place on Sunday. I'm in section 309 so I was looking forward to it.
Completely unimpressive. I suppose the availability of a chicken kebob is at least something.

WHAT A GAME !!!!! I dropped by, the burger was $12 and Chicken Kebobs were $6. The lights were one, sorta reminds me of hanging out at a friend's backyard. Didn't notice if people brought in food to sit and eat

Those pics look very cool! Terrific job by the Yanks for providing chairs.

I'm not sure the place is finished yet- it is definitely workable and very nice, but some things are missing- like behind the bar, it is just very.. metallic and kind of dirty, and while there were tv's there was no audio at all. But I got to say even with this the views of the city were fantastic, the openness was very welcoming, and it is definitely a nice area.

Pretty sure those $18 drinks are the big souvineer yard stick style cups, not a regular small cup, but i'm not 100% on that!
Actually, no I was wrong, they are regular sized. :uhh:

I know they sell that style cup in Tommy Bahama... Thats the only place I've seen it. I just assumed they were going to be sold here too but maybe thats yet to come.
Party Deck will serve frozen drinks after this week, the kind in the revolving machines which is a fun idea, but right now the things they are serving on the menu that include Malibu are just mixed drinks in regular cups.
However, the prices on regular Vodka/Tonic & Jack/Coke is pretty normal, around $10 a drink.

I was at the Sox/Yanks game last night and checked out the Malibu Terrace. It wasn't bad. It's a good place to go grab a beer quickly since most people don't seem to know about it. They have Budweiser products and a few other better beers such as a few IPAs, Blue Moon, and a few others.
Here's a view of the bar where you can order.

Here's a view facing the interior. The guy in the window in the chefs outfit is pretending to be furiously making kebobs even though no one was in line.

Now if you've missed dinner and you decide it's a good idea to get a $6 Chicken Kebob thinking it said Chicken KebobS then let me show you what you get. Here is a 1"X2" piece of stale french bread and one kebob. Man, that was filling. Taste, not bad but not worth the price.

As for the views of the city everyone is talking about I did not see those. I did see views of some lovely brown apartment buildings in the Bronx but that's about it. Overall, a good place to stop and grab a drink outside on a good night. The lines weren't long at all, at least not on a Monday night. And I'll be back for a beer sometime this season.

Thanks for the pics.
These maybe stupid questions but:
1) Why are so many of the concessions in NYS so "high-end" alcohol centric?
2) Why is the value of the food so low (maybe because of the focus on #1)?

They should have named that place something associated with New York. When I think Malibu I think Cali.

Possibly because Malibu is paying them for it-Do you really think the Yankees would be doing it from the goodness of their heart?
They have you hostage, if you are hungry during the game-what are you going to do, starve or pay. The 'chains' that have outposts there need to recoup the $$ they pay Yankee Stadium for the opportunity to separate you from your money.

I think the "high end alcohol" part of it is easy.... Last year the only option that was available to just anyone was Tommy Bahama, if I am correct. Those of us who like drinks rather than just beer had quite a hike. I love that there are more options to get an actual drink now!
Maybe next year shot girls will walk through the stands. :D
Stopped by this place during the delay last night, went to order a beer (they have a few good non-Miller/Coors/Bud drafts) and the guy said they weren't open yet, they'd be opening in 20 minutes. Went to our seats, and went back after the top of the 1st, and in the span of that 20 min the place had completely closed and security wouldn't even let me in.
Seemed odd.

yeah i actually noticed that too, that there was security at the entrance to the deck. im curious if there is a capacity limit or if theyre trying to enforce something.

It's a high end place, they got have some bouncers keep out the riff raff who dress too casually.
Why couldn't they have used picnic tables with umbrellas like this?
