One of my part-time jobs is as a sportswriter, too... and you're so correct about that. Sportswriters absolutely back their own -- not just sportswriters, though. Journalists as a whole do it. Just look at how the media really ate Palin alive after she blasted them every single day.

I guess it comes down to nostalgia. I hated Rickey Henderson after he left the Yankees (and I think I even booed him when he came back with Toronto at one point), but I was glad to see him get into the Hall and I appreciate him much more as a ballplayer now. Cano has walked and tripled in a run with RISP. Is this the start of the apocalypse?

Who says that was Robbies fault. I think that was a failed hit and run, I think that was all on Melky
What did these players practice during spring training?

no worry you can have a gold glove play second base hit over 300 and be in the top 3 second baseman in baseball and people still don't like him.

Two days in a row with a baserunning blunder. I really hope that was a botched hit and run. Otherwise, he's just not very bright.

The Yankees let Shields off the hook that inning. Three 3-ball counts in a row, but Cano gets caught trying for 2B and Jeter gets himself out on a 3-1 pitch. Shields owes those guys dinner.

If the hit and run was on, that was a dumb call by Girardi. Shields lost the plate so you can't assume he throws a strike 3-1 there.

So frustrating. We need runs -- these 3 aren't going to hold up. Better AB's please.

If it wasn't on, then bad job by the coaching staff for not giving Cano a red light.

Times like these, I kinda miss Billy Martin. There would have been an interesting scene in the dugout after the miss hit and run.
Anyone saw Ricky Henderson's Hall of Fame speech? He gave a lot of credit to Billy.
2 quick outs, another quick one AJ. Need the low pitch count inning

Yep. He was frustrating to watch as a Yankee. I always got the feeling he was dogging it. And that snatch catch just made him look like a hot dog. But damn, he was so talented. And a "bad" year in terms of steals was 75.

Rickey had plenty of his own moments when he didn't play hard.
Rickey Henderson was the best leadoff hitter that I've ever seen, but it always kind of bugged me the last year Rickey was with the Yankees in '89 his hammy was always bothering him and then when he was traded back to Oakland his hammy issues magically disappeared.
