I don't think anybody expected him to move fast. He's never really dominated, and guys that big almost always take a long time to develop consistent mechanics and good command, especially when they're coming off of TJS.

I wonder what the record is. He's at 19 already this season... he'll probably pass Jason Neighborgall's high, but that's not really fair since he averaged > 1 WP per inning. Randy Johnson's high in the minors was 13.

I don't even expect flashes of dominance from him. I just want him to be solid in 2/3 of his starts. So far he doesn't and he is getting worse.

Looks like Dunn is starting off his good month, bad month trend in style and it seems Brackman has found a brother in arms with Sam Elam (1IP 0 H 4 ER 5 BB 0 K 2 WP's 1 HBP). I would just love to see them pitch on the same team, on the same day just for the intrigue. Hard throwing lefty/righty combo that can't find the plate has to give any opponent some weak knees.

String together a few solid starts, I realize he's gonna have a clunker from time to time. But shows more then just one good start in May.You're digging yourself a bigger and bigger hole. Originally, you said you wanted to see "flashes" - aka small glimpses - of potential and I gave you the 8 inning dominant start he made. Then you come back with you want to see him "string together a few solid starts" - which obviously is revising your "flash" idea.
But it will be fun to see you try and wiggle out of your last post after seeing this:

The recent streak isn't just bad though, it's just about as catastrophic a result as possible (on field results, not injury). This is Nuke LaLoosh level wildness, not just "figuring things out."

yea, but his K:BB ratio really reflects a lack of BB's, which everyone here knows is an issue. coming into action he had only K'd in 16.5% of his PA, which isnt a bad number at all for someone in the FSL.

It's not Villalona level bad, but its a really big red flag. If he keeps this same walk rates it's highly improbable that he'll be worth anything significant by the time he's ready for the majors.

If Romine only has a 5BB%, but that is coupled with a <15K%, you can live with that. You still obviously teach patience and hope it sticks and/or he can maintain the rates in the upper minors

I'm not comparing anything between the two except their PD. One is more troubling than the other. That's it.
While I agree there are definite positives about Romine, I personally don't take him too seriously until he starts demonstrating that he's even willing to walk. Basically I think he's got a fatal flaw and until he shows any legit signs that it's fixable I don't see him as an "exciting" prospect.

That's one of the puzzling things on sending him down. You have a 35 y/o SS that is going to need days off as the season goes on.
Makes little sense to send Pena down. Ransom isn't a SS. Can't even play 3rd.
And the Yankees knew he would have limited ABs when he made the team out of ST. So I don't totally bye the excuse he needs ABs. I mean why was he on the team for 3 months if you're so worried about getting him ABs?

Same goes for Richardson. I think he was 90-92 his senior year with a polished curve.

Right. But that was him talking about his stuff in HS which was around 90-92. I was curious to see where his stuff has been, particularly his CB, since turning pro. I'm not expecting him to jump into the mid-90s or anything already (if at all), just wondering what the most recent reports have said.

Right. But that was him talking about his stuff in HS which was around 90-92.
Nope. The interview was from April 17th of this year after he'd been throwing for over a month this season:
Lane Meyer: You were last listed at 6’2”, 180 lbs. Is that still accurate?
Matt Richardson: It’s changed a little bit. I put on some weight in the offseason and I’m pushing 190 lbs right now, and I might be a little taller. I was in the weight room hard, trying to come back stronger and more prepared for this season.
Lane Meyer: Have you noticed any difference due to the work you’ve done?
Matt Richardson: Yeah, my velo is up from last year. I’m not sure if that’s just because I was tired last year, but I’m definitely throwing harder, and I just feel better all around.
Lane Meyer: How has your arsenal changed, if at all?
Matt Richardson: Right now they only have us throwing 4-seam fastballs, because as a high school guy they really want you to be able to command that first. Right now that’s sitting around 90-92 mph, at least that’s what it was in my first start this year. My curveball is kind of 12-6 right now, but I’m trying to get it to have two planes instead of just going straight down. Right now that’s probably my best pitch, and it comes in around 76-77 mph. As of right now my changeup is actually coming along pretty well, a lot better than it was last year, and it’s coming in around 81-82 mph. I still need to work on throwing a 4-seam changeup because right now I’m throwing a 2-seam change with my 4-seam fastball, which is not going to be good as I move up in levels.
Lane Meyer: Have you noticed any changes in your velo as you really settle in to being a fulltime pitcher? Also, reports prior to the draft were that you had nice movement - is that still the case.
Matt Richardson: Well, by the end of last year I was sitting maybe 87 mph, touching 90 mph, so that’s definitely up. I get some nice cutting action, even when I stick to the 4-seam, which I think is because of my arm action.

Oh, well I read a post-signing report that had him 90-92 so I'm guessing his HS scouting report and pro scouting report is pretty much the same, not that I expected any major improvement in stuff. I figured the NoMaas interview took place the same time as the 90-92 report I first read.

I would be on the conservative side with that. He just got to Trenton. I would let him finish the year there.
And if he's this good to start the year in AAA next year that's when I would become aggressive if I'm the Yankees and bring him up to the majors.

What's the upside on Pirela by the way?Pretty high. Jeter played in the same league six months younger than Pirella and put up slightly less impressive #s than Pirella is putting up right now.<p>Its early still, obviously for a kid who has just had his first 150 plate appearances in full season baseball, but Pirella projects as a plus runner, plus hitting, a strong shot to have a strong batting average in the majors with good gap power with a chance for developing power.<p>He's been a bit inconsistent in the field at times but he has all the tools to be an above average major league fielding shortstop. He, unlike fellow young prospect Angellini, is living up to his rave reports.

Banuelos throwing lots of innings this year. That dude is far too goodYeah, through six innings today he allowed 5 hits no walks, 5 ks and 1 earned run (season ERA = 2.20).<p>It is remarkable what he is doing as an eighteen year old kid in the Sally.<p>The Yankees are very fortunate with the signing they made last year - that would be three major signings they made out of Mexico last year. The first one and one that has been totally overlooked was the signing of the former director of the Mexican Baseball Academy (<a href="http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/13/finding-talent-in-mexico/">Lee Sigman</a>), yet, this is the guy who got the Yankees the info about Aceves and Banuelos. <p>With Banuelos the Yankees have a very, very, rare left-handed talent.

The drainage system has failed, and this is no less than the 3rd game called in the past month where the sun is shining, yet the field is a swamp. For years they tryed to build in the Poconos area but the ground is hard red clay or shale. Both not known for good drainage. The Stadium drainage system is going to have to be totally redone. If you remember when the Red Barons played there the field was Astro -turf. People have told me one of the reasons the Phills moved was because of the uncooperation of the area to improve the conditions. I love the fact of the AAA team being so close but this is the 3rd time A game has been called on a clear day.I think the Yanks will look else where(in 2010) if conditons do not improve. There is a lot of talk i hear of Newark but there is an Indy team there now ,so I don't know how that would work. I can tell you this ,The Scranton area will rue the day the Yanks leave town.
