View Full Version : Continuity of the league

So I just have a question that I'd like to pose.

Obviously we have some active players; based on recent transactions it's about half the league. The other half appears to no longer care and in the long run that hurts the entire league. Liriano is a perfect example; I'm probably going to get him due to waiver wire priority, but there is no way a pitcher of that talent should ever be hitting the ww.

This is now the second year in a row where it seems most of the league quit.

Do we plan on trying to continue this league even if every year we can count on at least 20% of the teams not paying attention?

I'd like to continue.

The beauty of this league is its simplicity. The auction and the first couple weeks is really as intense as it gets. Then you simply sit back and watch things unfold - with the occasional WW pickup or DL replacement.

It does suck that some people completely let their teams go though.

I would be in it again. I had a two week period where I neglected my team, but other than that I have been more or less on top of it.

Yep, I'd also like to continue. This is by far one of the most interesting leagues I've ever been in, despite some players giving up. So you can count me in for 2009 ;)

I remain fairly diligent so my team sucking is more a function of incompetence than disinterest. That being said, if someone wants to take over for me, I wouldn't object.

I'm still in for next year. I've been checking my team everyday and making changes when I deem them necessary. The results are not quite what I was looking for though. Hopefully the league continues next year. I really enjoyed the draft and the season.

The draft is always the best part. I remember having to wake up at 8:30-9am in Hong Kong on a Saturday morning in order to draft my team, while you guys were enjoying your homes on a Friday night.

True; true.

The draft rocks; but it does really suck to see people losing points for extended periods of time when they may have been competitive.

I'm sure about the overall impact; but both the Brew and Myself may not have even been near the top if it hadn't been for a few people who quit and allowed their teams to drop points in critical categories.

So... do you guys wanna do this league next season? I really hope so. Maybe we should start thinking about possible ways to improve the rules, so that everyone will find reasons to stay involved until the end.

Anyway, I say we give it another shot.

I am telling you guys. Look at my track record for my baseball fantasy leagues in Yahoo. I am a absolute stud. I got a beautiful resume to compete over one of these dead beats!!

It's not showing up, you need to enter your password to see it. I was joking anyway.

If someone drops out, I'm sure you have a good chance to be in. Last year was my first year and I replaced someone. Anyway, it's a keeper league so that'll hamper you somewhat.

I'm in for next year. Would like to see some rules tweaks - such as adding a couple bench spots. I think that would allow people to stay more into the league and more competitive. Say you drafted a young player for a pretty high salary like a lot of us did last year, but he's really struggling at the beginning of the year. You don't want to drop him. You can't bench him. You gotta leave him started and eat the bad stats.

I'm in so long as we have 9 other owners. Another off season of lobbying for bench spots has begun!

Personally; I'd like to see us start 20 players; and have 5 any position bench spots. That way we can have 9 hitters; 5 starters, 6 relievers.

NO BENCH SPOTS!!!!

I'm in. :D

As previously stated, I'm also in :) And bench spots would be sweet, but 5 seems a bit too much.

I'd be very interested in a spot in this league, and you can count on me being obsessively active. Sey, put a word in!

I vouch for Will.

So, when do we begin discussing keepers and such?

I have a lot going on, so I'll make a decision quickly and let you guys know.

Anyone know the rules regarding me dropping an MiL player I have right now for another one? Is it legal?

And there's a reason Liriano is on the ww. I just can't remember what it is.

I'm in, too. I just looked at my roster and thanked Rob for me having Tex next year at $20.

Hanley, too.

yanksphan already said he was in.

I want MaximMan (Will) in if possible, but that's not up to me.

I am going to just renew a bunch of my overachieving players - no extensions!

I'd also like to apologize for my team being left for dead - big year in 2008 with a wedding, home purchase, honeymoon, etc.

Good, I'm glad to see people are back on board :) By the way, I received an email from Sportsline about renewing the league. Eric, did you check it out? Can't wait to get this party started :P

Should be; I think the first year we had 12 owners. Looks like we have 7 returning owners; so five spots. E, confirm?

I will return too. Can't miss the draft!
