According to Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/christensen/2008/07/28/twins-interested-in-latroy-hawkins/), the Twins have interest in bringing righty reliever LaTroy Hawkins back. Hawkins came up through the Twins' system as a starter, but eventually found his niche as a setup man before signing a free agent deal with the Cubs. Christensen talked to a person close to Hawkins who believes he'd like to come back to Minnesota.

Given that Hawkins is still due approximately $1.25M for the remainder of his contract, I imagine the Yanks will try and "split the difference" with the Twins.

In other words, I think that since the Twins would only have to pay him the pro-rated minimum anyway for the remainder of the year (about $160,000 or so), the Yanks might just let the Twins have him if they agree to pay about $3000,000 for Hawkins, rather than leaving the Yanks on the hook for about $1.1M.

I believe you can trade a DFA player for "cash considerations" and not a player, so I think this would fly.

Times must be tough in the Minny bullpen.

I wish him well. I found the whole #21 thing so disgraceful that I've been pulling for him ever since. He obviously wasn't doing the job here, but I hope he can do it somewhere else.

The Twins really don't need Hawkins.

Agreed. I'm sure he probably has bad impression of Yankee fans as a result of that silly booing, and that's unfortunate. I don't really think he ever had a chance here from that moment on. Hopefully he's sucessful elsewhere.

I hope the Yankees ask for Mauer and Liriano in return.

Good fit for LaTroy, he wont be facing much pressure, but I hope if we win the east and the Twins get the WC we can face him in the middle innings of the first round of the playoffs.

While he wasn't my favorite Yankee, I have nothing personal against the man and I'm glad someone is picking him up - he may be almost done, but he's probably not 100% done yet, and going back to Minnesota may be a good thing for him.

I don't think he's anyone's missing puzzle piece, so I really can't get worked up about it.

The Twins are competing with the Tigers for LaTroy Hawkins. Lots of bullpen issues for the Tigers and they were interested in signing him last winter.

If Cashman gets anything out of this, I would bow down once again.

Well if they trade for him they're responsible for the entire contract, minus whatever deal is involved... same thing is they claim him on waivers.

We go back to Minnesota pretty soon. Maybe Hawkins can help the Yankees out after all. He's done so in the past while with Minny...

Good idea! We might get them by default if the Twins management dies laughing for that trade and then we'll be be able to have Mauer and Liriano.;)

The astros are such a terribly run organization. It's a joke that ed wade has a job in baseball.

I work for a farm team of the Astros and I can tell you that many people think VERY highly of Cusick.
