In the offseason i really looked forward to 2008. I mean, it looked promising. Young

guns with a taste of the playoffs, same lineup that dominated last year, new

manager. Now we're here midway through the season and things dont look too good.

Our Ace is out till september ( By then we'll probably be so far back it wont matter ) ,

we have two veterans in Moose and Andy that are capable of giving you a QS but can

also s**t the bed so you never know, a Young phenom who has the makings of an

Ace but still needs some experience in Joba ... and everyone else is hurt. I know that

this teams strength is its offense but, how can you even fathom stringing together W's

when youre throwing the likes of Rasner and Ponson every 5th day ? This offense is

good, but they arent gonna score 20 runs a day, just not gonna happen. Rasner Vs.

Beckett ??? I mean Beckett is not unhittable but how can you expect to win ? This

has been the problem with this team for the past couple of years : The lack of

QUALITY starting pitching and Bullpen. whens the last time one of our starters threw

a complete game shutout ? Now it seems that we have something brewing in the pen

with Ramirez and Veras and Robertson. we should have some reinforcements coming

up later too in Melancon and cox. Still, even if this team somehow found its way into

the playoffs which i myself am doubting at this point, we frankly dont have what it

takes to win. With that said, im hoping Cashman doesnt do anything drastic come

the deadline and just regroup for 2009. Leave Hughes and Kennedy in the minors for

the rest of the year. sign Tex, Sign a Bedard, Harden, or Sabathia -

( Id rather stay away from this guy as i think he'll be a bust here but

knowing Hank he'll probably be in pinstripes ) and Trade some people for QUALITY

bats off the bench and QUALITY relievers - Not people that Brian Cashman thinks will

do good here or were once good but have been off lately, Quality arms. The game of

baseball is changing. The example thats slapping us in the face are the Rays who

look unbeatable right now. Their lineup isnt scary but they have 2 shutdown type guys

in Kazmir and Shields and 3-4-5 pitchers going that give them a legit chance to win.

If we want to really start winning again Cashman had better start playing REAL

hardball. Times they are a changing and the way we got it done before aint working

no more.

At least we're not the Mets.

And thank god for that. I really believe Cashman is one offseason in which he makes

a few smart and well thought - out baseball decisions away from putting together a

legit Championship caliber team. A team that will decimate all.

I don't get the "knowing Hank" part. Can you name one instance where Hank has shown the propensity to throw caution to the wind and sign or trade for big name FAs? He is not his father. He runs his mouth like George, but his philosophy is right there with Cash.

Abe, why are there two paragraph marks between each and every one of your line?

Cashman let Santana go and Hank wasnt too thrilled about it, thats all. You dont

think he'd be just as adamant to sign Sabathia ?

He typed it double spaced on a typewriter. You can see a couple of wite-out corrections.

the double spacing irritates me.

The weird

spacing that you use

is painfully ridiculous

Just type into the "Message" box. You don't ever have to hit the "enter" key. The lines wrap automatically.

Can people stop complaining about how this guy types. Yes it is annoying, but if he was going to change wouldn't he have done it after one of the first 100 times people complained about it. If it bothers you that much block him otherwise give it a rest.

I'd take one step back and two steps forward. That would be a .667 winning percentage. We're not sniffing that right now.

While I agree with your first sentence, I don't understand your last. How do we know he's in line with Cash? He hasn't been on the job very long, so it's impossible to judge him at all. The little evidence we have is the Santana deal - obviously the trade wasn't made, so either Hank agreed it wasn't worth it, or simply wasn't powerful enough to overrule Cash and Hal. Given how much he carried on about it, I don't think we can conclude the former. So I agree, it's unfair to say that we already know Hank will chase bad trades like George did so many times. But I also think there's little basis to say he won't. We just don't know yet.

He refuses to answer this question. I think it's some sort of obsessive compulsive behavior. Or maybe he bought his computer from the Soviet surplus store.
