It was a great game, and a great baseball event, naysayers aside.
I was lucky enough to volunteer at the Fan Fest next door for all 5 days, and I worked the VIP entrance. Standing outside each day, I wore my Yankees jacket proudly. Many strange looks in my direction! Just a little something to remind folks who the "best" team is :D
I met a few ( very few ) fellow Yankee fans, Bud Selig, Harold Reynolds, and some local media folks. I had a great time. I scored a free ticket to the All Star Sunday futures game, And I finally saw NJ in action..1 for 1 with a walk, and the first run scored of the game. It was great. I even managed to get Thommy John's Autograph.
Saw the game on TV at home and it was a success. DJ going deep, the honor to Cal and Tony, Torre beating Valentine AGAIN in a game. What more could you ask? Zim laughing his a#$% off at Lasorda..Im glad the old guy's ok, but damn that was good. Nice roll-over !
Afterwards, Nelson spoke to a local reporter after the game, and said he's always had a "great" relationship with Torre. HE actually gave Torre and the Yankees there props, so I Was happy to see that. Perhaps he was humbled afterall Torre picked him. He made amends of sorts on the air, so It was classy. The reporter asked him and Mike Cameron if the World Series went through the Yankees. They both said yes, for us to get there, we need to beat the Yankees. Good job guys, your 100% correct, just dont say anything whne we beat you in October :D
Inside the Fan-Fest, they had the WS trophy on display..sweet. Got my picture taken next to it in my Yankee jersey :D Some fans came up to me and told me it was Seattle's year, but I just laughed and told them when it comes to October, how may games you win in the regular season means nothing. Both the Chisox, and the Giants won over 100 games last year, as the M's are on track to do now, and they were the first to teams to go home. " But the odds in Vegas favor the M's! " they plead. I just told them to wait. You dont win championships in July, and there is still a lot of baseball left. Look at the last ten games I told one guy, who has the better record? The M's he blindly says. Nope. The Yankees. :NY:
Besides, when you have to face a team built on starting picthing like the Yankees in October, the odds will change. You would be a fool to think otherwise. Odds be damned anyway, The Yankees will find a way to win the big game. Any "expert" who claims otherwise is dreaming, IMHO :D Hell, even Nelson said with the amount of Post-season experience in the Yankee clubhouse, it gives them an edge. Damn right !
Looking foward to the second half....
LETS GO YANKEES!!!!
