I know this is jumping the gun, but watching him pitch last night and seeing how dominant he was, it got me thinking about how he'll be our Ace very soon if he keeps this up.

I say 2-4 years.

What say you?:)

It will all depend on his innings limit, as far as I'm concerned. If he's allowed to throw 180-200 innings next year, it could be as early as next year! It's no jinx, when you're good you're good, and Joba has all the makings of a Cy Young award winner. This is the ace we've been looking for. He just needs to stay healthy.

Listen, Joba is a special talent and I think he will be the Yankees staff ace within a couple of years but come on.

He isn't Beckett just yet, let's let him pitch for another year or two before we start talking Cy Youngs and All Star starts.

I love that the Yankees finally have some youthful homegrown talent to get excited and speculate about, that's just part of the fun of being a fan and getting to watch these guys develop. But let's not put the cart before the horse. If Joba can pitch to a winning record with an ERA around 3.50 or so this year, I will be happy and expect him to be well on his way to eventually earning a Cy Young down the road.

Any speculation beyond that is kind of silly at this point.

Let him win a couple games in Fenway before you start talking about Cy Youngs.

Oh you mean the on-and-off Josh Beckett? Don't get me wrong, he's a great pitcher, but he isn't consistent year to year.

I dunno, 15+ wins every year since '05, sub 3.7 ERA every year save one ('06), 200+ innings the last two years and he should have won a Cy Young last year. Pretty consistent in my eyes.

There's always something to be said for consistency.

Ok, maybe I phrased it wrong. One year he can have a 5.00ERA and then the next he'll have a 3.00ERA, then the next it'll go back to 4.00ERA, and so on and so forth.

Believe me, I'd love to have Josh Beckett on this team. Also, there is no real reason for anyone to even compare Joba to Josh or Josh to Joba.

Brick Tamland

I agree YA4L, not trying to compair the two just trying to temper expectations with Joba. But the sky is the limit. If he works hard he has the stuff and talent to be every bit as good as any starter in the leauge and it's exciting to watch.

Let him pitch like Beckett of last year and never win the Cy Young and I will be happy.

This is the right answer.

Who cares what awards he wins?

 There you go again.

It's an over/under thread. If he doesn't win it big deal as long as the Yankees win the World Series. But it is nice to have some personal accomplishments. Derek Jeter is so full of himself when he "doesn't know" that he passed a huge name on an all-time list. I'm sorry but these guys know what is going on. Yeah, winning the game is the most important thing, but winning a Cy Young wouldn't be great?

If I played and never won an award but won a World Series, but if I won the World Series and Cy Young...I wouldn't just say..."oh, I won, big deal."

This is what everyone keeps telling me when i rant and rave about Joba in the

neighborhood. I guess that'll be the real test then. Hes pitching against them here on

the 5th, and then depending on how they set up the rotation after the ASB, we may

finally get to see him at the Fens. Itd be great to see him outduel Beckett up there so

everyone can STFU and give Joba the credit he deserves for being one of the best

young pitchers in the game.

I think people do give him credit for being one of the best young arms in the league already, but yes that would be awesome. I live up in Boston surrounded by Red Sox fans and nothing would give me more pleasure than to rub it in their faces.

This guy seems to be like the Yankees version of Felix Hernandez. And I really think Joba has just as much chance to win Cy Young as King Felix has. I'd say barring injury probably around 2010-2011.

He will win back-to-back Cy Youngs in 2028 and 2029 at age 43-44 throwing the most hellacious knuckleball mankind has ever seen.
