Seems to be a fitting nickname for him wouldn't you say?
Would you rather him run through the bag or slide feet or head first like he has the past few days. Also didn't Joe Torre pull him aside last year and tell him not to slide into first? I know it's not his team to manage anymore but it seems Melky didn't give a damn. Personally I think running through the bag is the better solution, but obviously the Melk man disagrees.
What are your opinions on this?

Run through the damn bag.
PS: A better nickname would be Melky "I don't hit much" Cabrera.

He really needs to stop sliding into first, Joe needs to sit down and talk with him.

Sliding into first is NOT quicker and puts you at a greater risk for injury. Girardi needs to do whatever it takes to beat this fact into him. It's getting ridiculous.

PS: A better nickname would be Melky "I don't hit much" Cabrera.I have a knack for doing these just before the guy in question does something good. :o
Let's just get him to hitting multiple home runs, he won't have to worry about how he runs to first!

It's really mind boggling that it hasn't gotten through to Melky. The only time to slide into 1st is to avoid a tag. It's pure idiocy to lay down a good bunt, only to screw yourself by sliding. If Melky wants to do this they should make him run a 40-yard dash on a track and tell him to slide across the finish line. After he's done picking the asphalt out of his ass cheek, then ask him what he thinks he should do when running to 1st. Maybe then it will sink in.

Tony Pena has been after him for years...Melky says he can't help it, as if it a involuntary bodily reaction.

I remember the NY media dopes who used to praise Wally Backman up and down for sliding/diving into first.....gritty, hustle, blah, blah.....

I can't stand it when he does this sh*t. You learn in Little League that sliding into first will not get you there faster.

Run through the damn bag.
PS: A better nickname would be Melky "I don't hit much" Cabrera. But he's a kid and he has fun and he makes the team looser and he is Cano's best friend and he laughs a lot and he has a good armz and he's quick and he gives the team a different dimension and he's just trying to do his best and he bunts for hits sometimes and he hit a home run recently.....
I mean come on, he's the best. You need to take it easy!!!!!!!!!!!

No, he really needs to run through the bag at first base. Listen I love Melky, I named my dog after him. But sliding into first A.) slows you down B.) Sliding into first base head first could cause a major injury. Again I like Melky a lot but he cant keep sliding into first base

you know... melky isn't the only guy to do this. alot of major league ball players have done it.
here's one that you probably don't remember. Cal Ripken Jr did it. It was a game against the yankees, not sure if it was the end of the regular season or the the playoffs game, but I do remember it being the last out in a HUGE game.
It's an instinctual things, and sometimes you just can't help but do it.

Fine him and bench his a*s the next time he does it. He'll learn soon enough.

Doesn't matter though. It wasn't a habitual issue with Ripken the way it is with Cabrera.
Just heard Kim on the YES pregame show say that Melky has been talked to about this, but he's done it since he was talked to.

because it's his instincts. it's going to take alot of yelling/reinforcement for him to break it.

no but my point was that's it's an instinct thing especially when it's the last out of a game.
