After yesterday and today, I've concluded that you're really annoying. Relax, just because you've never heard of a kid doesn't mean anything. Heck, you've probably never heard of 99% of the kids being drafted. Trust the scouts.
Yanks took another falling player.

It is bad for you to question a man who gets the draft right every single time. We aren't going to get LHP just for the sake of getting them. Mooneyham isn't signing. He's committed to Stanford and is an SBC client. You're complaining through the whole thread but have no idea what you're talking about. You're making yourself look silly.

ofcourse I'm not gonna question Oppenheimer, all I said is how many more RHPs do we need ? So far in this entire draft we picked one LHP. That's 15 Rds. and 1 is a LHP I can't be frustrated ?

Round 16....
NY_GOLDENARMS
06-06-08, 12:11 PM
Pepperdine had two of its top players fall to the seventh round due to injuries. Wave righthander Brett Hunter didn’t stay around long on Day two as the A’s just selected him with their first pick in the seventh round. Scouts say Hunter has a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow; at least that’s what the medical report says now. More likely, closer inspection could reveal a tear, and many scouts think Hunter will need Tommy John surgery. In the seventh round, it’s worth the risk, as he has one of the draft’s best arms when healthy.

That's 15 Rds. and 1 is a LHP I can't be frustrated ?you don't draft for need. Handedness is really overrated and cost the Yanks DEARLY ten or so years ago when they took lefty after lefty in the draft. None of them made it, unless you consider Matt Smith with the Phillies making it.

I think this draft is right up the Yankees MO.
Draft a TON of arms. The best you can get.
Draft postional player others don't value that can help a major league team. 2b and cf.
Pick up sliders elsewhere. Smith, Rye, etc.
I think they are content to continue to sign their toolsy players for high $ internationally and draft pitching out the ying yang domestically.

Also from Bourne Braves of Cape Cod League. He played outfield and pitched for them due to roster issues, actually also pinch ran. One of the best athletes in the league last summer was a solid pitcher all year (and Bourne is the primary team I follow) but seemed to tail a bit at the end (note though the Bourne roster was very compromised due to NCAA rules getting kids back to school by playoff time so his support was a little shaky.

At the 28th pick of the round, the Yankees took ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte of Creighton; Venditte led the nation with 37 appearances this season and struck out 101 batters in 87 innings this spring.
Then the Red Sox ended the round by taking first-round talent Alex Meyer, the 6-foot-7 righthander who is committed to Kentucky and is considered a near-impossible sign.

Look at who the Yankees have drafted already 1rd- tough sign, 4th rd not an easy sign, 5th rd- tough sign, 6th rd- tough sign, 7th rd- tough sign. That is 5 tough signs right there...how many do they get on average 3-8? They draft about 10-12. All of those picks a def signs too because they were taken so high. So they are in the middle of their average with the draft half over, thats a good sign. Just relax and watch the Yankees draft talent.

Took great pleasure in it ;). Crisp has been whining non-stop up here since Ellsbury got called up. Crazy game last night, Manny & Youkilis went at it in the dugout and it looked like Youkilis had no idea why, and Ellsbury had a Matsui moment when diving for a catch, but its a strain rather than a break. I loved all of it except the Ellsbury thing, don't like injuries like that effecting any players.

North Chelmsford. I had a two hour argument with a couple of guys last weekend over the minors in which they thought they were versed. It was terrible, and then they tried to tell me Yankee fans were all a-h*les because a NY fan ran over a Boston fan in Nashua recently. Some of these guys are just insufferable.

Signability!
Few high school pitchers have a better pair of breaking pitches than lefthander Blake Monar does. His 12-to-6 curveball receives the most notoriety, and his slider is a potential out pitch as well. Monar's fastball is less impressive, parking in the mid-80s, and at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, he doesn't project to add much velocity. He's committed to Indiana, and he may not be signable if he doesn't go in the first five rounds.

Honestly I think a lot of it is because they're raised to hate the Yankees just as much as they're raised to love the RedSox. Even the advertising on NESN goes that way, "Here pinstripes are not a sign of success" and so on. It seeps into everything.
