I say Cashman tries to make some sort of trade for this guy, I'd love to see him pitch in pinstripes. And I feel he still has alot left and will ALWAYS battle much like Coney did for us.

Isn't someone in his 40s, probably pitching his last year a bit old to be the new anyone? He's been an average pitcher in pitching friendly environments for a while now, no thanks.

Agreed, and at his age he doesn't have time to get adjusted to the different league. Also, he's seems like a snobby butthole

Are you serious ? He'll get hammered so bad in AL . He'll make Igawa look like Sandy Koufax . If it wasn't for NL , weak ass lineups , pitching parks , he'd have gone like 10 years back .
By the way , would you also like to have Tom Glavine ?

Once upon a time, Greg Maddux had an opportunity to be a Yankee; but decided to take less money in order to go to Atlanta - he blew his chance; I certainly don't want anything to do with him now.
Take him out of that canyon of a ballpark in SD and he's toast.

So how long until this thread is moved?
Greg Maddux isn't new period
David Cone was on the Yankees from the ages of 32-37. Maddux is 42 now.

Greg Maddux is nothing like David Cone. Coney was wonderful, until that last year with us where he completely and suddenly just fell apart. Maddux is totally different, a future HOF'er to be sure. But we already have a guy like him, named Mike Mussina.

I was at the Maddux 350 game last night. Had great field seats between home plate and the home team dugout. Maddux pitched a really good game of keep away and you could see his pitches had a lot of movement but he was topping out last night with an 83 mph fastball.
Peavy was openly speculating about the departure of Maddux today:

Maddux will be a much better broadcaster than Cone if he decides that is what he wants to do.

That's not saying much. I love Coney, but he is pretty terrible in the booth. I still can't get over how he said that a WHIP of 1.5 was good? Its probably because he followed that up by saying WHIP stands for Walks and Hits per 9 innings pitched.

Maddux is great at variating his speed, much like Cone is good at variating his butchery of the english language. The similarities end there.

I concur, Hans..........and that`s about all I`m going to say on this subject.
Come on guys, either let Coney announce or don't. None of this "Maddux would be so much better" crap. It's not fair to Cone to get jerked off in the booth like that...

It's not fair to Cone to get jerked off in the booth like that...I was making a joke at the subject of the thread. I was a huge fane of Cone the pitcher, and I'm convinced that Maddux was one of the best pitchers I've seen live (and I saw Marichal, Palmer, Fergie Jenkins, and many others of that era as well as today's stars). I took the opportunity to take a dig at DC in the booth because I think he is pretty awful. Maddux is one of the smartest baseball players I've ever heard interviewed, and I think he would be a great color man.
Sorry (and no offense intended toward Cone), but that is my opinion on the subject of Maddux/Cone (I agree with everyone here that Maddux would get shelled in the AL at this point). :-shrug-:

nonsense.
how's moose been pitching lately?

So I was watchin ESPN Baseball Tonight and they mentioned how Maddux will be traded since San Diego is already mathematically out :)
And they mentioned a team in the Bronx who could use him for the second half...NL batting leaders actually are higher versus the AL batting leaders....I think he's do fine in the AL....we did sign Jaret Wright and Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano in the past you know.

Yeah they were all great for us. I'm all for getting Maddux!

Besides being NL pitchers, what do they have anything to do with Maddux?

ManRam is the dumbest nickname I've ever heard.
Manny Ramirez tags ALOT of pitchers in case you haven't noticed. He is Hall of Fame probably.

I don't actually think he doesn't sign enough. I just remembered that you thought this and that you don't like him much.
I'll help you fund the HQ though.

Nah I like the guy and loved it when we signed him in 2001? I'm just beng sarcastic about the signing....because I had the guy one on one many times in Tampa and tried to be as polite as possible and he just ignored me. Plus I've seen him do this behavior alot down there to other people the last 4 years I've been to ST. I just kinda blew me away and never expected that type of personality from Mussina. Oh well...even Miguel Cairo blew me off hahahah so go figure....maybe it was because he saw me get out the little league synthetic leather baseball versus the Rawlings MLB one....
I just think we need to trade for one solid pitcher this season to make the rotation decent, it's obvious the hughes/kennedy combo isn't working how everyone would like so now we need to re-tool so to speak.

So you want Maddux to pass Clemens' on the all-time win list in Yankee stadium? Or are we bringing Roger back also?
