View Full Version : Cano's new contract
So who thinks the contract is weighting him down so far...?
I dont think the contract has anything to do with his struggles. It has more to do with him swinging at junk and not learning how to work the strike zone.

But he was ok last year, why should his approach be different?
He looked so good in spring training! He breaks my heart every time he comes to the plate. :(

Yeah, I just think he's in a really bad and lengthy slump. I think he'll break out of it soon enough, though his numbers at the end of the year might not be all that impressive thanks to the start he's gotten off to, even if he plays like he can for the rest of the year.

Im thinking the scouting report probably changed on him. They probably just figured he swings at everything so dont give him anything close to the zone and he will chase. Its a game of adjustments and Cano has to make one.

I was in Florida for the last week of spring training and everything off his bat was a tracer. I have no idea who this pod person is in his uniform now.

I really don't see his approach as much different than last year's approach.
It's just a matter of him getting locked in. He's never going to take a lot of pitches. He's had lots of success by hacking away, but it doesn't serve him well when he's not seeing the ball well or if his timing is a bit off.
I hope the warm weather helps him...this is a warm weather team

That doesn't bode so well for your team in October, then.

He looks lifeless. The guy always has a smile on his face...it's rarely seen now. The guy swings at pure garbage and then takes good pitches. It's giving me agita everytime he comes up to bat.

Relax. It's April. There's plenty of baseball left.

He'll be fine- this is almost a mirror image of last year.

He was hitting .260 this time last season. He's hitting over 100 points below right now.
I think he'll be fine, but this is sickening.

Fair enough- you got me. It just seemed like he was this bad last year.

False.
Using a total AB # of 100 (2 off from where we are at this exact moment) he has put up the following #'s in his first 4 years in the majors:
2005 - .253/.273/.402/.674
2006 - .316/.343/.442/.785
2007 - .298/.343/.383/.725
2008 - .153/.217/.214/.431
(This was previous to tonight's AB's.)
Every couple of games he hits a homerun and I finally think he is coming out of his slump...but he never is. :(

A ton of games yet to play.
:-bye-:
I don't think it's the contract, but he seems to bounce out a lot of times on the first pitch, so maybe he needs to change his approach. This could be about the time that the league catches up to him and he needs to make his adjustments. Start being more selective, work deep counts, try to draw some walks. Maybe the Big G would work with him on developing a better eye at the plate.
