Approaching 14 hours until it starts. :gulp:

I'll be up at 6 AM Pacific time raring to go and it should be a great day, always one of my favorite days of the year. :)

First time in a while I don't have one specific player that I want the Jets to draft. But at least I won't be disappointed, which usually happens with them.

I'm really hope they get McFadden. The Queens ties the franchise has from their days at Shea Stadium connects perfectly to the original Run DMC (from Hollis, Queens). Pairing that with the new Run DMc (wearing #23 or 32) is a public relations bonanza waiting to happen.

I can see the Nike/Reebok/Under Armor commercial now...

My roommates and I were absolute draft geeks and got the brilliant idea (in the middle of a long night of drinking) that no one could go to bed until his team selected. The fan of the then-defending champion Cowboys had a REALLY difficult night, morning and afternoon.

In addition, the NFL Draft is the only occasion I have used to call in sick to work when I or a family member wasn't truly sick.

And it's here. :gulp:

I am hoping that the Giants can pick up a good defensive player at 31; and right now I am probably hoping for Kenny Phillips most of all.

Yeah, why did the NFL push back the time? West Coast ratings?

Im really not sure. They have dramatically shortned how long the first day will take though, so the coverage will probably end at the same time as well (today will only have the first 2 rounds instead of the typical 3, you get 10 minutes to pick in the first instead of the typical 15 and 7 minutes in the second instead of the typical 10).

YanksFan1992
04-26-08, 10:46 AM
ESPN is saying that Chris Long is going #2 to St. Louis.

So the possibilities assuming there are no trades probably are:

3. Atlanta- Matt Ryan or Glenn Dorsey
4. Oakland- Glenn Dorsey, Darren McFadden or Vernon Gholston
5. Kansas City- Gholston, Branden Albert or Matt Ryan
6. Jets- Matt Ryan, Gholston or McFadden

My guess is:

3. Dorsey
4. Gholston
5. Albert
6. McFadden
7. Ellis
8. Ryan
9. Rivers
10. Rodgers-Cromartie

I can't believe the Dolphins are taking an offensive lineman with the #1 overall pick. I mean normally I could believe it, but Tuna had my expectations up this year. I have to believe a Jason Taylor trade is in the works.

I don't think anyone would give up a low first rounder or a high second rounder for Jason Taylor, who is 34 years old now.

ESPN is reporting that their sources are saying Atlanta will take Ryan at 3 and Oakland will take McFadden at 4.

However, if Dorsey is still on the board I wouldn't be surprised if Oakland took him and they could be bluffing to ESPN trying to make a trade happen.

Interesting thought from Werder about Dallas trading the 28 to Arizona for Anquan Boldin. It's a win-win. Dallas obviously gets one of the 10 best receivers in The League, and Arizona gets some ammo to try and move up and make a run at Run DMc -- that would be an excellent tandem with Edge.

It's a smart pick by Oakland, because he was one of the best players in the draft. If you can get someone who looks like a "playmaker", you take him. It just sucks for the Jets :(.

What else do you expect from Al Davis. Let's see, there's Fargas, Jordan, Rhodes, and Michael Bush. I'm sure one or two will be cut, but still. Meanwhile, there are no significant DTs on the roster. They're going nowhere quickly.

I want Sweed. I wanted Sweed in our Mock.
The trade for Pacman means they don't HAVE to go CB, but they could go with Mike Jenkins.
They can wait until 28 for Felix Jones. If he's gone, they can wait even longer for Round 2. Or, they can take the guy I took in the Mock, Mendenhall.

UPDATE - Get Falcons, 34th, 48th picks in the second round, plus a 4th rounder)
The tackle Atlanta took is a bit of a reach, and the Skins still have a tackle they like, Duane Brown of Va tech, who they could probably get with their second, second round pick.

It was a shrewd appraoch to look for more value and depth, with a lot of holes to fill in this draft. I could have seen taking Jenkins, because he could be a stud, but given what positions they have to fill, it made sense not to take a WR here with so much deopth.

Merling might still be there in 10 picks or so, too.

Flutie's always been pretty visible around here -- he's been spotted often at our men's basketball games -- but his nephew Billy is on the BC football team, so that's a pretty good reason why he'd be there (although I think he'd have gone anyway). Point is, the man can simply do whatever he wants here. Good choice for a favorite player. :)

How much help do the Giants need at Corner?

Thomas has been very solid for the Trojans the last 2 years. We've recruited a bunch of high profile kids the last few years and Thomas was one of the under the radar guys Pete Carroll picked up. He worked hard, became our #1 corner and now, has become a day one pick.

Jonny
04-26-08, 08:04 PM
Good to see you here Cano. Some of the scouting reports say Thomas is a little slow. Is that true? What we need is a big physical corner who'll mug WRs at the LOS, and then play tight bump-and-run coverage.

I'm thrilled we didn't draft Connor. Anyone who thought we would was just blinded by the hype and didn't care that he was a bad fit for our defense.

ace
04-26-08, 08:05 PM
They look very good at CB now with Ross + Webster, now throw in Thomas to the rotation and the secondary could be as solid and deep as the front 4. Corner was a position they needed to add youth to with McQuarters and Madison on the wrong side of 30 for a young man's position.

I think Thomas ran a 4.5 at the combine. Not exactly blistering, but not slow either.

He's got great size and reach though. Giants made a really good pick. USC runs a soft zone, bend dont break type of D so it's up to Thomas to adjust to the Giants system, I don't doubt that he can though.

I'm with you on Connor.
