View Full Version : The 2008 NFL Draft Discussion Thread
I am very excited to watch the defense mature this season. Another big year and I'd assume Steve Spag is gonna have his choice of HC jobs.

Overall, I had a great time watching the draft as always today, and I'll definitely be up bright and early tommorrow morning. :gulp:
I did find it amusing that ESPN continually showed the same set of commercials for the entire draft though.

NFL.com offered a live stream of the NFL networks coverage of the draft free of charge today. Don't know if they'll be doing it tomorrow too.
Manninghams Wonderlinc score is really killing him.

I think NFL Network is streaming their draft broadcast live from their site, however. At least they were today.

But scoring a 6 is really bad.

NFLN embarassed ESPN with their coverage yesterday. It was so far and away better. More analysis, more in depth information, everything was better. Hearing Steve Young talk yesterday about how teams need "more heart" as opposed to, you know, actually what they need, was refreshing.
And who can really deal with Chris Berman for 5 hours?

At least he didn't say "GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-Men".
Then again, I was at the gym during that pick, so there was no audio. My favorite coverage of the day. :P
It's the NFL Live guys today, so I would expect a significant improvement.
They might do actual analysis instead of show fluff. The least they could've done yesterday was bring Emmitt in for unintentional comedy.

The NFL Network's live feed is up again today, and believe it or not, it actually got that last pick in about 10 seconds AHEAD of live ESPN tv. Internet feeds are usually well behind, but maybe that's just my view after years of MLB.tv.

Zuttah was a great pick by the Bucs.
Yeah, he was one of the guys I was hoping would slip to Dallas.
One pick to go and three guys I like here: Manningham, Justin King, O'Neil Cousins. (in reverse order)
I'd be happy with one of them. However, I like the TE from A&M more than I thought I would when it was announced.

I'm completely missing what the Dallas mentality is here. I don't understand why they keep trading down over and over again. Every player I was hoping they would draft is now gone from all these trades.

yeah, i'm not quite sure what jerry jones is doing either. unless they're stockpiling picks to make a blockbuster trade for a veteran wr, which i'm also highly doubting.
Looks like my Steelers made out like bandits yesterday.

Caleb Campbell was drafted by Detroit in the 7th round, very cool. :gulp:

We thought we'd get 3 BC guys in this draft -- the same ones that got drafted -- so I'm pleased. If one more drops off in the last 20 or so picks, I'll consider it an exceptional draft for BC, but that ship may have sailed already.

Giants win the draft.
Haha I wish.
The Chiefs are your winners with Glen Dorsey, Branden Albert, Brandon Flowers, Jamal Charles, and DuJuan Morgan.
No one wins a draft till 3-4 years down the road...

Unless you have the 2007 New York Giants draft class;)

Ha I was going to say the same exact thing. Based on college performance, the Chiefs win as they blew everyone away. That being said, in 3-4 years the Giants could be declared winners based on their players development (which of course is the best thing).
I'm very happy with the Bills draft, was hoping for a TE earlier but perhaps the new O-Coordinator doesn't feel a TE is as important in the system. Did anyone take Owen Schmitt?

What a great weekend. Thats why the NFL is what it is.
Though I think last year at this time, the 1st round was still going on haha.
Loved the shorter version, but please move round 3 back to the first day.

Giants win the draft.
As UM fan, I personally believe Kenny Phillips is a reach pick in the 1st round. I'm happy for him and I hope he does great for you guys. I just don't see it though.
As a Buffalo Alum I am excited that two players from my school were selected today. Trevor Scott in the 6th by Oakland and Jamey Richard in the 7th by Indianapolis where he joins UB 05 grad Ramon Guzman.
Punter Ben Woods will also most likely sign as an undrafted FA.

Who were you hoping the Cowboys would draft? I'm fairly surprised that they haven't taken a WR.
I was hoping for Doucet, Zuttah, Zbikowski, Reggie Smith (all gone early-to-mid-3rd), and when they kept falling, Manningham and Justin King. I thought for sure that either one would have been the pick at the end of the 3rd Round, and I really thought that it was gonna be King to open the 4th. I also thought it would have been interesting to take Colt Brennan to see how Garrett could have molded him. But that was strictly because I like the kid, not because he fit any kind of Dallas need.

I hope Zbikowski for his special teams play, and not his safety play. As a Giants fan, I think I would love to see him next to Roy Williams in the secondary.

Keep dreaming :D -- there's no way Z would start ahead of Hamlin or even Watkins.
Would've been good in the Dime and a HUGE asset for ST.

Although it could be described as a boom or bust draft, I liked what the Jets did. They have a lot of good, solid football players, so they spent two first round draft picks on play makers. It's hard to say what's good or bad value in the second day, but under Mangini the Jets have had a good drafting record, so I'm optimistic.

I don't see Kenny Phillips as someone who is all that special either (though he had a really good 2006), but hey it continued the 1st round "streak" ;). Plus, Greg Olsen had a better year for the Bears than I expected last year, so there ya go.
