My boss, who hated The Yankees and was really a creep, took one look at me sitting by my desk at about 2 hours before game time, and said, "What are you doing here? Go on - go home!" (Little did he know I was going anyway!) I almost leaped over my desk to get back to my home (from downtown Manhattan to Nassau County) and listened to the game on my patio while I had the TV on in the living room. It seemed like a game The Yanks were going to lose - it just had that feel to me. When Dent first hit the ball it didn't even sound like it had a chance but because it was to the outfield I ran inside and saw the ball keep going and going... Even after that, it still seemed like The Yanks might lose when Boston came back a bit - but man - I'll never forget that afternoon! The final out was great - but you know - those celebrations are so much more subdued than they are nowadays.
P.S. Obviously my boss wasn't a total creep! ;)

They can get this game in if they want to, it just depends how long they want to wait. If they start at 3 in a light drizzle, it shouldn't be raining at all by 4.

What the heck!
Im in the general vicinity of Yankee Stadium and the rain has completely stopped. Why are they talking about cancelling it? Do they want 75 degrees and sunny to play. Sheesh!

Seriously, this is just getting absurd.
If it's been misting for the last two hours, they've waited until it's put the field into questionable condition instead of just playing through it. Sooo obnoxious.
I cant imagine the field even being bad. It hasnt rained hard at all. Yeah its wet...but YS has a great drainage system. We've seen games played thru MUCH MUCH worse conditions.
My friend just called back again and said it has totally stopped raining.

Tyler Kepner's blog is saying that the game is canceledSo opening day gets rained out by drizzle? The Yankees really failed here today...make the fans wait hours, and then tell them to come back tomorrow.

My friend just said the same thing. He's pissed and the crowd is getting pissed. Idk why they cant play thru this, especially since its gonna stop completely soon.I worked through it today. Honestly, I never gave it a thought the game wouldn't be played.. or even delayed for that matter. I've seen plenty of games played in much worse.
my computer is still on the screen and i'm still showing a 'delay' message.

Maybe the game will end up like that Tigers game that Sean Henn blew for us last year.

I feel worse now than ever. I wish they had just called the game from the outset. And probably it will end up being a double-header on Weds since tomorrow is supposed to be an absolute mess.

Been better. Been looking for a pharmacist, since ours died. No luck. If we don't find one soon, we are going to have to divvy up his work, which probably means my posting days are over. :(

7 PM tomorrow night? I have no problem with this. I am sure that YES will show the Yankees instead of its regularly scheduled Nets game.:D

Doesn't look like it from their current scheduling; they've already added tomorrow's game to their website, no mention of coverage as yet.
And I sure hope YES covers this instead of their Nets game.

That stinks :(
If anyone is wondering, the Yankees.com schedule is still showing ESPN as covering it. I hope so, then I can watch it in HD, rather than SD w/ EI.

I guess this works out for the best for me. I was looking forward to the game this morning but if they delayed it I would have to leave in the middle to go to a dentist appointment. Tomorrow I will be here to watch the whole game. I hope that ESPN carries it even though I have EIs I would like to see opening day with some commentary included (even if the commentary on ESPN is biased! :D)

Due to the rain out, there will never have been a regular season game played in March at Yankee Stadium.
Some pics of the games in Florida, if anyone is bored...

It's a shame the game isn't on today, but a night game at the stadium to start off the season will be nice.

Silly question, are they gonna do the pregame ceremonies (IE; player introductions) prior to the start of tomorrow's game? I haven't gotten to see one live in about 5 years
This is so weird:

Its the only job where complete incomptenance is not punished. Did you ever see Sam Champion or Heidi Jones for blowing ten forecasts in a row.
If you f**ked up at work as much as meteorologists did, would you have a job?
"Rich, How could you screw up that claim?"
If I said "Well Val, the front went to the North." would I get away with that excuse?

and I hope there is never one played at the new yankee stadium ... when we left the stadium it had totally stopped raining and didn't rain again until after 5 ...I believe they knew much earlier - but due to the strong concession sales, they held off - the lights were never turned on and nobody ever warmed up..

3 blue jays players were on the field throwing a ball around
I'm so lucky...
I won't get to see the last Opening Day at Yankee Stadium now because of the rain yesterday. They're not going to show the game now. :(
