Hmm, I didn't even know about it. Hopefully they show it again closer to the start of the season (or, knowing NBC, they'll put it on a DVD and sell it for $20).

For a one hour show I thought it was pretty damn good. I missed the first 20 minutes but they went over a lot of stuff like football, concerts, movies and other events in yankee stadium throughout the years. I'd recommend it but it was only shown locally and I don't know if they'll show it again. I'll try to get more info if I can.

Someone in the tri-state area has to have recorded it. Then put on YouTube. Anyone?

I'm surprised Billy Joel isnt doing another concert there this summer.....I know he's playing 2 nights at Shea in July. Figure he would maybe play one show at YS too.
I watched it from the beginning (but didn't record it. Sorry.) The WNBC reporter was on tour with Tony Morante at the Stadium. They started with, not surprisingly, the Yankees obtaining Babe Ruth from the Red Sox but how they were still playing at the Polo Grounds at that time. Because the Babe was such a big draw, the crowds for the Yankees were exceeding the crowds for the Giants and the Giants told the Yankees that when their lease was up, they'd have to find a new place to play. Then the show focused on the construction of the stadium. They had footage of the Babe lying in state at the stadium.
The early part of the special focused on boxing at YS, especially on the Joe Louis/Max Schmeling fight in 1938, up to the Ali/Norton fight in 1976. They then moved on to religious events held at the stadium like Billy Graham in the late 50's, Jehovah's Witnesses conventions, both Papal visits and Sun Yung Moon and the Moonies in the mid-seventies.
They moved on to football at the stadium, college (Knute Rockne's "Win one for the Gipper") and professional--lots of footage of the Giants. A little bit about soccer as the Cosmos played in YS for one year.
They had a piece about movies shot in or featuring the stadium.
Obviously, lots of baseball. Most of the footage we've all seen already as long time Yankees' fans. The interesting footage was a home movie of Don Larsen's perfecto in the WS shot by a man who took his dad to his very first baseball game that day and thought it would be great to have some footage. It was in color too. They talked about the "ghosts" at YS influencing the magical moments. They had interviews with the Bleacher Creatures. They talked about the refurb in the mid-seventies and how the crowds wouldn't come to the Bronx because it was so bad up there in the eighties. (Of course, if the team had been better... ;) )
They ended up talking about the new stadium being built but just showed a quick ariel view, nothing in-depth.
All in all, it was a very good special. I don't know that they'll repeat it as they instead advertised that next Saturday at 7:30 they're having a "Farewell to Shea" special. :barf:

What will NBC be showing at 7:32 next Saturday?

You think the show on Shea Stadium will be that long?

I'm figuring there will be at least 90 seconds of commercials.

I hope that appears online somewhere (like Youtube). I'd love to see that.

I know ESPN is doing a series, but I thought NBC was also doing a series of Saturday night shows?

It was a great show. I'm sure WNBC will repeat it numerous times during the season. Liked the interview with the current oldest living Yankees player.
I'm figuring there will be at least 90 seconds of commercials.
Well, I'll give them 60 seconds to show the Beatles. That's at least worthwhile.

Ya, I noticed it too, just after the clock struck midnight (Saturday night/Sunday morning). I was on Yankees.com, then I went back to the home page a few minutes after midnight, and it looked totally different

I saw it, I liked how it was broken up in a 9 inning segment. Nothing ground breaking. If you didnt see it and you know the history of the Yanks, you didnt miss anything.
if anyone wants to see it, shoot me a PM and i'll burn a copy.
