I think you are underestimating Wang and overestimating the other guys. Wang is hands-down better than Mussina (has been for two years now) and is the only one on the staff besides Pettitte who is likely to pitch more than 200 innings. I am hopeful that Joba and Hughes will be better than Wang at some point soon, but for now, Pettitte and Wang are our 1-2 guys.
True- but most of the time Wang gets hit, he doesn't get hit hard. It's usually seeing-eye singles like this.
And our infield defense is usually a little better. Cano seems to be struggling.

Wins are a team stat and there are definitely some legitimate reasons to be concerned about Wang if he continues to struggle with his command and keeping the ball down. Plus I think the league has caught up to him. Every hitting coach knows how to prepare against him since he really only throws one pitch. He really needs to work on the changeup to keep hitters honest.

I made this point back in January. He has one pitch and that pitch is great but it's still just one one pitch. Thinking that the hitters in the AL won't get wise to it after two plus seasons is asking for trouble.

I thought Wang had Hafner struck out on a beautiful 2-2 pitch. Ump didn't agree
The homer to Sizemore? Molina set up inside, and the sinker leaked to the middle of the plate. Right in a lefty hitter's wheelhouse. It was really the only hard-hit ball I saw today.
Flaherty is right - probably there was some fatigue - and the bottom of the 4th was a long inning to sit in the dugout and wait
The strikeout before the walk - I think that was on a changeup
The changeup was real good

How did Wang throw today? If you believe Flaherty, anyway, better than his line shows. He only had trouble in one inning, the second, and nothing was hard hit then. Aside from the Sizemore homer as he began to tire in the fifth, only one ball was hit hard all game.
Seven strikeouts, that's a lot for Wang. Only two walks, including the last batter he faced.

With two bullpen spots left, my votes are cast for patterson and traber. Does anyone know if Patterson has enough endurance to be a longman?
That being said, people may figure out his awkward delivery at some point, and if they do, all bets are off.

Yes, but he's saying that patterson should make the team over the need to carry a lefty (Traber) or the need to carry a longman (Karstens). I'd assume Patterson has options though, and I doubt Girardi will let him fade into the minors like Torre might've (assuming he pitches well). Even though the odds are against him to make the team, he has looked better than a lot of the other righties.

Don't know about that. He might force his way onto this team with the way he is pitching. I think he's got the lead over Bruney and Britton right now, and I think Traber will make the team over Henn (even though he has no options left, I think he's gone). Of course, still two weeks to go to figure it out.
Right now, I think the bullpen would be:
Mo
Joba
Farnsworth
Hawkins
Traber
Patterson

Gardener has a cannon as far as i know, great fielding ability and range, and a good eye. Lack of power is his biggest drawback.

be honest people when Brett hits a slow roller up the middle you already know he's on first right ?

he does not have a canon he does however have a better arm than Damon in his primes.

I think of all the young position players Ive seen this Spring hes been by far one of the most impressive. If theres an injury in the outfield this year he has to get a shot.

I like that he knows his role, he can hit for power in BP but his game is get on base and stir up some trouble ;)
A botched fly ball turns into a triple for Porter!
5-4 on the RBI single by Castro! Good going, El Caudillo! :D

He was safe. :(
Aw shucks, they almost tied it there. Still 5-4 after Castro is OUT at the plate, after eight.
I'm heading out. Enjoy the ninth inning, fellas. :)

Another guy thrown out at home. Meacham better get his sh*t together for the regular season, because I have seen a few guys getting thrown out at the plate during spring training.

I agree. I wish there was some way we could've kept Bowa. Meacham scares me as a coach.
He was safe. :(
He was indeed.
That was a sparkling double play.

Nick Green wins the game!
John Sterling a little too excited for a spring training game, but it's better than no baseball.

Yankees win in an exciting bottom of the ninth 3-run comeback. Nice job by Nick Green, Brett Gardner, Chad Moeller, Kyle Anson, and almost Justin Christian. Given, it's spring training, but who says it can't be exciting?

Sterling and Waldman say he tripped and fell on the way home, and so had to run back to third.
