Soooo like a friend of mine is like in mad love with a girl. Problem is she's from France and he's from here. He doesn't know her that well, you know how these kids are, but doesn't wanna come off as a stalker. His plan is to go to France and talk to her and stuff. Anyways, would this be stupid of him? Just need to know your honest answer folks.

i think its romantic and flattering and if a girl came across the ocean to court me i would be very flattered. but thats just me.

A friend of mine fell in love with a girl from Ireland after meeting and spending only a week in the states with her. He went to visit her a few months later, and now they're official.
Although it sounds crazy and storybook, tell him to go--it can work. (That is, if he actually met her in person first).
Does he know her in person or is this someone he met on the Internet and wants to get to know better?! I do think it is romantic, but if he doesn't know her in person I would be sure to talk on the phone A LOT before going all that way.
He knows her through a friend. They all went drinking once.
So why is this "hypothetical", again?

I would, if I were him, try to contact her via the internet and establish a friendship first - if a relationship develops there, all the better - and then go over to see her. I wouldn't make that trip for someone I barely know, though, or that barely knows me for that matter.

Kidding. The romantic in me would like to think that it would work out, but in reality it probably wouldn't. Does she know that he's planning to visit? Showing up there without talking to her first would be very stalker-like. :eek:

I think just showing up there is a littler stalker-y, sorry. However a woman I know had a guy come over here from Norway like that. She lived there for a year in HS and he just showed up at her house one day. She hid in her bedroom while her parents dealt with him or something.

A few thousand for the flight, and he will probably be buying on last second notice which will cost more. Plus the money he spends over there including the hotel cost once she dumps him. And he might go crazy once she says no and go on a killing spree. Then, once in prison he will be raped on a daily basis as "the dude who killed french."
So basically this trip will cost him his anal virginity, if he still has it.

I'm all for following your heart and stuff, but there's got to be an element of common sense to it as well. If he's so mad intent on marrying the girl, then he should call, e-mail, talk to her before all that crap. Then set up a time when he can meet up with her over the summer or something. I mean, heck... does he even know the girl likes him?

This guy I used to work with at one of my previous jobs had family that lived in Poland and every year they would go for 2 weeks to visit. After one trip, he came back and said he met a girl during this trip and they were "in love"...after 2 weeks. The following year he comes back from his annual trip only to tell everyone they were engaged. I thought it was insane. But 5 years later, the two are happily married with two kids. So it can happen. You never know until you try.
I'd rather get rejected then wonder "what if" and regret not at least trying. I guess though this situation is a bit different. Knowing each other for 4 weeks sounds like a lifetime compared to what this guy knows about this girl.

I suppose it can work, but the words "stalker" and "restraining order" are more likely to come into play than "love". It depends on what kind of girl it is (if it were me, I'd personally be completely freaked out).

Agreed, I mentioned that before. This isn't like a $20 bus ticket ride, this is a few thousand dollar flight to see someone he has met and "doesn't know very well."
This would be like the Yankees investing a ton of money on a player that they spoke to once and sounded like a good player.
